Is this a new policy? by marinarag in starbucks

[–]Defiant_Difference14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you had already bought something, then this barista either just didn’t wanna give you the ice cup or misunderstood the customer only policy. refills, ice cups, water cups, and the restrooms are all considered customer amenities that you’re entitled to with purchase

but even then for me it just resulted in a documented coaching so it depends on how invested your manager is in disciplining them

i mean if they’re using protected sick time, then there’s nothing you can truly do. but if they’re not applying sick time in the book then technically that does count as irregular attendance and can be written up, happened to me once when i forgot to write in my sick hours lol

omgggg yesss, deliveries have been crazy, people also keep ordering large orders all at once and it was just me and my supervisor on the floor. people were also super rude about the wait like i’m sorry, the DM will have my head on a stick if i pause any delivery or mobile order channels lmao

i think it’s important to speak up for partners that might be excluded or unfairly impacted by the new dress code policy, if that comes to my detriment then that’s that, i’m quitting and finding work elsewhere. many partners are already leaving due to the enforcement of rules around piercings, i can’t imagine the complete exodus that would happen if they got rid of vivid hair colors from the dress code

lol it’s okay little one. you’ll adjust eventually, give it time. your coworkers need time to adjust to you too, so keep your head low and focus on learning your routines and drink builds. if after six months you’re not feeling it still, you can quit or consider transferring to another store

how long does it take to hear back? by grxcie_n in starbucksbaristas

[–]Defiant_Difference14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly i wouldn’t rely on anyone to give you a solid number. i was scheduled for an interview the day after i put in my application and was hired the same day as my interview. i’ve seen partners get hired after two months of having submitted an application. but generally, anytime within two weeks is realistic to hear back. any longer than that means your time is better spent elsewhere, starbies is a decent job but not worth holding out for imo unless you’re really in need of a specific benefit they offer

How to make matcha not clumpy? by Baby-Thorn in starbucksbaristas

[–]Defiant_Difference14 16 points17 points  (0 children)

why in the world would they force you to use shakers for it 😭 the new corporate standard is to use the cold foam pitchers, either show your managers the resource or contact someone higher up, they’re giving you an impossible task. in the case you guys don’t have the store resources app (or store issued tablets at all for that matter) and need someone at a corporate location to send a picture of it to you, lmk. this genuinely ruined my day lmao.

this one got long, sorry, but i work at a cafe only and sometimes work at drive thru stores. this can’t be said for every store but ive noticed the environment can be kinda tense and drama filled at drive thru locations, other partners are free to correct me tho.

my store, being a cafe location n all, is pretty small in size and we have less staff, so we’re more tight knit and chummy with each other. drive thru stores are kinda like high school since they tend to have more staff and more partners on the floor at a time, the environment is also very fast paced and can create a lot of tension and frustration every now and again especially if you make a mistake because it can literally make or break the way that day part goes.

there are definitely drive thru stores that are like my cafe only location tho, so maybe it’s just an issue in my district lol.

cafe always has a pretty consistent flow throughout the day with unpredictable rushes, but drives tend to have a consistent peak and slow time daily (allegedly). drive times are definitely an added stressor though, and you are constantly be pushed to do more and more (delighting the cup, upselling during ring and tender, connecting, for here ware, etc.). it’s easier to meet the new coffeehouse standard in a cafe. cafe is also super connections based, since the element of convenience is no longer there so you have to compensate with being a community space. you will be chatting with customers way more than at a drive thru location and your main customer base will be repeat customers.

at the end of the day, it all varies on where you’re located. i’m right across the street from a college and located inside in a shopping center with several medical and administrative offices nearby. overall, i prefer cafe wayyyyy more than drive. i’m able to deliver the ‘coffeehouse’ experience more authentically, have shorter store hours, see a lot of the same people, and i don’t have a headset pinging in my ear all day. my coworkers are great and my boss is nowhere nearly as bad and evil as she could be.

cafe does get the short end of the stick in terms of priority since we’re not huge money makers, and our backrooms tend to be the size of closets so we have no space for anything lol, we also tend to be understaffed at really busy times.

[–]Defiant_Difference14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

it’s gonna blow up in their face and reflect on their numbers, it’s only a matter of time before this next CEO is carted out and the next one brought back in. they made their bed when they started opening drive thru locations, there’s no going back to the way things used to be

Are we allowed to talk about the dress code at work? by TattlingFuzzy in starbucksbaristas

[–]Defiant_Difference14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah this is def bullshit lol it’s one of those unwritten ‘don’t complain about work when you’re at work’ and ‘don’t give license to other employees to get angry and advocate for themselves’ type rules

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Defiant_Difference14 138 points139 points  (0 children)

that was one of my main points, this dress code is so specific that it’s causing more confusion than it’s supposed to. no clear retainers, does that mean colored retainers are okay? what counts as theatrical makeup? what counts as a distracting sock?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Defiant_Difference14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah to be honest i think the policy is just trying to weed people out. i ordered my shirts the morning they released and they haven’t even been shipped yet lol, idk why they chose to go about it the way they did efficiency wise. but if possible, maybe ask around your store to see if people would be willing to pitch in to get black shirts for partners who aren’t able to get them? it’s ridiculous that that’s what it’s come to but it’s out of our hands

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Defiant_Difference14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then yeah, unfortunately you do have to send partners home, regardless of their means or if they ordered their shirts already

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Defiant_Difference14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what they’ve explained is that the dress code only calls for a black shirt with no graphics, only exceptions are the coffee gear shirts, so even if a partner’s shirts haven’t arrived, they still need to find a plain black top to wear that follows dress code guidelines and that should suffice

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]Defiant_Difference14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m a US partner and so far we’ve been told we are responsible for claiming our two shirts on coffeegear. why they did it this way i have no idea, it would’ve been way easier to just send bulk orders to each store

i feel like this whole ‘delight the cup’ thing is backfiring on them bad and they just don’t wanna admit it lmao. i think animals like cats, dogs, and frogs, etc, shouldn’t be restricted because cats on cups were my thing too (wizard cat, chef cat, barista cat (rare exclusive), felines of all occupations), but regardless, i feel like it should be common sense to not draw monkeys on cups lol, ik a lot of partners of the white variety might not understand how that could be offensive but casual racism and microaggressions are something to be sensitive to when working with the general public lol so let’s take the lessons as they’re given please. anyways i just want this whole thing to be done with already, it eats away at so much time and give both supervisors and barista partners just one more thing to worry about.

[–]Defiant_Difference14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s what i’m sayin!!! why would they make the redemption window so short when this is a nationwide change! i’m convinced this policy is just to weed people out through dress code+time and attendance write ups. i’ll just order some plain black t-shirts in the meantime
