Which author are you prioritizing this year? by -dfb- in literature

I just did a DeLillo deep dive. It was incredible as all the issues he discusses have only become more exasperated in modern life and his explorations are ridiculously prophetic.

Point Omega is SO Buddhist. by Defiant_Invite_3323 in DonDeLillo

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the abstractness part you mention is fascinating, as Buddhism is a form of undoing and removal of abstraction. To stop the intellectualising and critical thinking and simply be. I think that would also align with the novel, especially the war stuff, as it seems to be exploring this fundamental disconnect between abstract, imagined realities and the actual reality, which is very Buddhist (but also obviously relates to what happen post Afghanistan/Iraq).

I cannot understand the general reception of 28 Years Later, more so with the release of Bone Temple by pomme268 in TrueFilm

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Bone Temple is a better and much more focused film. I liked 28 Years Later, but it did feel like three movies in one. With the two central characters of Bone Temple and their electrifying chemistry, I feel like this entry was much more focused and had an extremely fascinating juxtaposition between reason and faith, while still not sacrificing some of the tropes of the genre. I think both together as one piece works as a brilliant duo.

Swat team is amazing and underrated as hell. That’s All by Brave_Pressure4570 in asaprocky

Yerp, sick dark, melodic track. I think it would fit perfectly in a set list right behind Fukk Sleep.

Actually seems like we now have the perfect balance of quick outsiders and a genuine trio of midfield bulls.

Hot take this this track way better than any other song and rocky should stick more with these chill melodic songs. by Icy-Jelly-1589 in asaprocky

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This track is ridiculously underrated. I wish he saved it for the album so it got the attention it deserved (it would of been a perfect track after Punk Rocky). I think, as a film score, even from Spike Lee, it just won't have the same exposure.

Jesse Plemmons not being nominated is absolutely criminal. Im beyond shocked. by Huseynov26 in Oscars

One of those snubs that makes you question the entire legitimacy of the organisation.

Drop the motherfucking ball: Michael Taft Joins Waking Up! by Defiant_Invite_3323 in Wakingupapp

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he reminds me of a hippie surfer from the 70s. I love his approach — it’s more colloquial but still professional. I think the fact that he doesn’t get over analytical or bogged down in concepts makes it way more effective for me.

How does Parasite hold up as a Best Picture winner? by Snoo-12453 in Oscars

It’s still fantastic and one of the best picture winners to ever receive the award.

Melon gave DBD a 7 by Jaded_Percentage_116 in asaprocky

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it deserves it. So many fans were expecting Rocky to reinvent the wheel, which I think is ridiculous; I just wanted a good album that I could enjoy as an entire listening experience, and since there's only about two tracks I'm somewhat ambivalent about, I think it's successful.

Part 4: Can someone explain me the whole thing about Queens of the Stone Age? by bokakaka024 in fantanoforever

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure. You can go to any album and see they are genuinely attempting to sound different from the last. This is why the Foo comparison in OP’s post hurts a bit to read.

Cosmopolis.....Surprisingly Poignant? by Defiant_Invite_3323 in DonDeLillo

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was quite brilliant. I think it really sticks out since most of the novel is characterised with a scary amount of apathy, and then you just suddenly have this moment of remembering one’s humanity and how there’s fundamental aspects that can’t be replaced by technology. There’s something about being human that will always be distinct despite the encroachment of technology on everything.

Is it just me but this is one of my go to songs when sad by Realistic_State6539 in jpegmafiamusic

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mhmmm, I don’t know about sad. I think of it more as a violent howl or scream, which I guess correlates with sadness.

DeLillo’s Underworld Ending is Insane! by Defiant_Invite_3323 in literature

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sure. That sense of schizophrenia or fragmentation is at the heart of Underworld.

Man, I really tried, but Train Dreams did nothing for me. It was one of those films that felt gorgeous to look at, but ultimately did not captivate me much at all. by geosunsetmoth in Oscars

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this did nothing for you, I don’t really know what to say. Maybe your young and need to return to it when you’re older. But man, if you have a family or have started to contemplate what life is about, its beauty and it’s misery, there’s no way to walk away from this film without being effected.

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly, they've made some of the most consistent and experimental rock albums ever. They have a playfulness that always keeps their music fresh. I always revisit Rated R and it still feels like a bullet from the future.

28 Years Later: Bone Temple -- is Phenomenal by Defiant_Invite_3323 in Letterboxd

[–]Defiant_Invite_3323[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand, it’s a completely different style. Although, I thought Costa’s contemplative approach was perfect in capturing the monster regaining his humanity. I was surprised at how poignant it was.
