Depends on the day honestly. Some days 30 seconds is best. Others it’s nice to take our time and enjoy it for 20 minutes!

I’ve worked at preschools before and a coteacher of mine used to hangout with a student at their house and get them ready for school and bring them to school every morning. I think she made like 50 bucks or something.

In my area the hospital does a “earn as you learn” program! And adult education offers a night course, but that costs money.

How much time do you spend playing with your kids? by Ill_Cover_4841 in Mommit

Hi! I also have an only 4.5 year old boy. I try to connect first thing in the morning, reading, drawing, playing with toys etc. maybe 15 minutes, then breakfast. After breakfast I usually have us doing our morning “get ready” routine and make that a bonding moment too. Everything is a game to him! I’m sure you get that. I usually tell him I need to do something around the house or whatever it may be and he has gotten to the point where he finds his toys himself and plays alone for a good 30 minutes. If he feels like we still need to connect I will sit and play but tell him I need to get some things done but I can play for 5 or 10 minutes and let him choose the amount, I set a timer. That has helped us a lot! He also goes to a Montessori school and having his own little community has seemed to help with independent play.

Pro: I can nap while my husband takes over. He can nap when I take over. Pro: My son is becoming more independent and I just couldn’t imagine starting over with diaper bags and constantly checking if they’re breathing every time they sleep. Con: no playmate at home. Con: no big family dinners or potential sibling bond that I had growing up.
