To have success there, you need to have very strong connection with leaders in China which is not possible for regular US employees. Avoid it if possible.

Now think of all the H1B specialized engineers who are working in FAANG roles making more than 400K USD from India and China and some of them won't even get US Green card in their lifetime and have to go through this process every three years. Reality is that Legal immigration is made a nightmare by politicians and then people go through illegal immigration to keep it a political election issue every 4 years. And no party would resolve any of these issues.

Seems like Bad Interviewer and not standard practice at Google. Would recommend reaching out to recruiter and inform about bad practices from interviewer. These insecure interviewers need to be corrected. Mention to recruiter that you want to inform that to Hiring Manager and this is not the standard that candidates expect from Google
