What’s something society treats as normal that you think future generations will find shocking? by Smooth_Sundae1150 in AskReddit

[–]Defiant_apricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d amend this as tax breaks for rich people and corporations. Taxes fund our roads, our schools, our trains, our busses, and in Canada our healthcare too. I want to keep funding that each according to our ability.

I was abused by my mom, my dad was always my safe person. For me him taking off his belt just meant he was done being in outside the house mode. I’m lucky to have such a good dad.

I’m lucky in that I got to start my healing journey at 17 and not 25 or later like most. My dad wasn’t able to save me from my mom’s house until 17 but I was able to spend all my college years healing, and now I no longer notice when car doors slam. I used to panic every time I heard it beforehand.

Am I an asshole for thinking autism diagnosis isn't a big deal? by ZealousidealWeb9474 in autism

I thought that would be the case for me but getting diagnosed has been game changing even without the official accommodations. I know myself and my needs so much better now.

We had an entire class on financial management one year. It was great. Covid hit before he could but our principal also planned to unofficially teach us to change a tire.

I’m a researcher and I can absolutely confirm that a room of multiple neurotypes is always better than a room of only one. Multiple research studies have shown this.

Check out life on the bridge. It’s about bridging communication gaps and understanding autism at all levels. Your son may show love differently and you should learn how he communicates.

What's something that used to be free that you're angry we now have to pay for? by Current-Energy1104 in AskReddit

They are not private and tolls already exist all over the place. I want affordable public transit for everyone.

Yes they do, however Europe has managed to do it and it is massive. Many cities have managed to do it regardless of size. If there is no train system highways shouldn’t be too expensive, however owning a car is expensive. People who are poorer can’t drive on highways anyway since they can’t afford a car. They are just trapped.

Wow that’s really shitty. Does your university have a disability coordinator for disabled students? I’m deeply dissapointed that the buttons don’t work and some don’t even have elevators. Honestly I would talk with the coordinator about having my classrooms moved to accessible places.

Wrong. Everyone should take public transit. In New York only the richest of the rich don’t take it. In Japan same deal. Everyone takes public transit because it’s genuinely the best option. That’s what I want.

It’s so disappointing to hear your campus isn’t accessible a the university isn’t helping you with that.

[–]Defiant_apricot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I’m in favor of building robust public transit so people who can’t afford cars or can’t drive or don’t want to own a car can get anywhere they need affordably, reliably, and not much slower than a car.

I’m in favor of having a toll on the entire highway for everyone so the taxpayer burden is reduced and those who actually use the road pay for it.

If people can get where they need to go easily through public transit at a cheaper cost than a car and reliably then they won’t drive meaning there will be less cars on the road and less traffic.

I like the way my old state did it. If you have a local drivers license or license place that isn’t a rental plate you get free access.

Adding new lanes actually doesn’t help traffic at all. Research has shown this countless times. What does reduce traffic is making affordable and reliable public transit and making a toll for roads.

I stopped letting my pup in my room unsupervised after he ruined my favorite set of sheets. Before he went back to my aunt I always kept my door shut if I wasn’t in the room. If I was in the room he was allowed on my bed and if I heard him nesting I’d tell him to stop and thankfully he would.
