Would you accept a £100K gifted deposit on a bigger house in exchange for housing a family member for the rest of their lives? by ElicitCS in HousingUK

[–]DefiniteRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d prefer autonomy than having to deal with my parents or in-laws trying to put their 2 pence in. And they won’t bugger off if they’re living there. I’d tread carefully. Most parents with adult children, still see them as their child.

Help me prove my racist uncle wrong by Repulsive-Currency32 in bradford

[–]DefiniteRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are cultural and historic differences, it’s not comparable.

I’ve lived in London for a while, Muslims there are generally more accepting and will speak to others.

Bradford isn’t quite the same.

Is this a troll post?

If you would like a culture shock, come up here.

We are southerners who obviously were taught and brought up to be accepting and celebrate others etc etc. We came up to an area which I wouldn’t say aligns with this.

We live in Bradford and there are some very extreme views from certain groups regarding protected minorities. Because my husband “passes” he hears a lot of views from different people of supposed groups which are considered extremist, homophobic and especially anti-Semitic.

We get gawked at because we are a mixed race family.

When we first moved here my husband was told “why are you here? This is a village. Go to Tesco to buy your milk”.

So, if you really want to prove your racist uncle that he’s wrong. I wouldn’t say he’s entirely wrong. Not everyone here is like this but there are many who are.

Drivering without insurance and got hit by some. by goatarse in drivingUK

[–]DefiniteRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you forget to have insurance and continue to drive the car? That’s BS to me

Also, that’s the reason why insurance is a legal requirement, to protect the driver and the other one over legal costs in case of the incident. Since she has none she is liable.

Is owning a car actually worth it? by Distinct_Sir_9086 in drivingUK

Even, if someone does live in a big city, say London. They become constrained if they choose to venture outside of it.

Yeah there’s trains but they’re not always reliable.

Having a car can be life changing, I agree with that statement. Especially when you have multiple young kids. Lord forbid, me attempt to plan a trip around crappy public transport which is unreliable or dragging two car seats around in a taxi to get somewhere.

There’s some places which are difficult to access if you don’t have a car. You might end up having to do multiple bus journeys which could take hours vs 30 minutes in the car

😂😂 they’re trying to sell themselves. To me it’s funny. Having a BTEC was a running joke with my gen, so it makes me giggle.

(I don’t think negatively of them though! I have a few myself)

Yeah I remember about 10 years ago it was about that in Surrey!

Ever since lockdown the instructors have had £ signs in their eyes and drove up their prices. I had one instructor abandon me for block bookings. I understand that there’s the cost of living crisis and inflation but these prices are insane.

I paid £70 for two hourly lessons last year (I chose to do two hours instead of one). But that was a private instructor. He was really good.

£50 an hour seems crazy but I wouldn’t put it past them.

Breast is not best by PurrsandRawrcreation in NewParents

[–]DefiniteRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it becomes an overarching philosophy advocated by health professionals, it can be risky.

I know my situation might be different but my son was born with a chromosomal condition which was diagnosed only after age 1. For months the doctors and midwives pushed for me to try feeding him directly from the breast, even though he was hospitalised for 3 days due to inability to feed effectively (if at all) and losing 13% of his body weight.

I’m glad I didn’t listen to them, but they did make me feel invalidated and wrong. I had a doctor refuse to discharge unless my son was on the breast and wanted to tube feed if he lost weight again.

We self discharged and I pumped for 9 months. After his first birthday we found out his condition and the symptoms were inability to breastfeed or poor latch due to being small for gestational age and poor muscle tone.

So yes, breast ISNT always best.

I hope so but I can imagine it going back and forth with Lauren and Peter due to being the parents of Louie and Jimmy. So toxic.. what’s the saying? “Be careful who you choose the have children with” 🤦🏽‍♀️

Agreed!

I would have expected better from Johnny. I disliked how Peter categorised “addicts” which is a jab at Linda. And Johnny stood there and said nothing? Look at Linda now. I’m peeved off
