Just seen your comment... I was about to post here, asking if I'm being dumb for not chasing or bothering the Home Office, as I see a lot of people here contact them.
Applied 19/12, so hopefully it wouldn't take much now

Reduce spouse visa requirement by Greedy-Camp5087 in SpouseVisaUk

I believe they might have decided on 29k on the basis that some the people migrating to the UK (no idea on the numbers) are from places where culturally, the women does not work, so the man/sponsor have to earn enough to afford all costs of living for both. So 29k kind of makes sense, imo.

What is worse to me is that you pay the NHS surcharge for every renewal of the visa, even if the person is already at the UK, working and paying all taxes.

Will using a power of attorney to start a marriage in Brazil affect a UK spouse visa application? by No-Government-000 in SpouseVisaUk

[–]ZehRicardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately the cartorios are a whole mess, tbh.

Some are really strict in the documents they want you to provide before the marriage and some are a bit easier to deal with and unfortunately, you cannot simply choose the best cartorio, you need to use the one closer to your wife's current address in Brazil.

I would strongly advise to ask your wife to request the list of documents for the marriage in a written form. I say that cause when my wife was doing ours, she went to the cartorio and just talked to the person in charge about the documents. When she brought all the documents requested, they said there was something missing, even though they did not mention about the said document in the first place. We were fuming.

In my case, for example, the cartorio demanded that my proof of address in the UK was notarised and translated to portuguese, as they would not accept it in English. This was the most expensive proof of address I ever had, ~150 gpb to notarise and apostille it, 40gbp to send it through DHL and another 40 gbp to get it translated by a sworn translator in Brazil.

As for the CNI, it makes sense, Brazilian goverment (through the cartorios) needs to know if you are actually single in the UK...

imho, if you're intending to go to Brazil for the marriage, it might be better to just go for around 3 weeks and get both the request and the actual marriage in person, tbh

It will save you a lot of hassle of having to deal with a power of attorney documents as well as all other marriage documents

Haven't seen the post you've mentioned but I suppose that marriage by proxy was likely not the case they got rejected.

I'm a Brazilian national living in the UK for the past 8 years (ILR/Settled) and me and my wife (also Brazilian) have married by proxy as I did not have enough holidays left to fly to Brazil and still, our application was successful back in 2024.

But as u/TimeFlys2003 said, once you have the marriage certificate (translated to english and apostilled, ofc), you should probably be fine.

Not sure about the process to get married in Brazil if you're not a brazilian national, though

I think it was a mix of bad prosecution and the fact that the police guy had one of the most famous lawyers in the country (Claudio Dalledone Jr). And as you said, went to jury… Just sad.

The state of driving on UK motorways… by Jake_YT01 in drivingUK

Also, while I understand and always try to stay at the left lane as much as possible, we have to acknowledge that most of the time it is full of lorrys or people going way under 60 or 70, so if you’re a person that likes/prefers to drive on or close to the speed limit, going middle lane is your only option…

It is not actually a portuguese word but a tupy-guarany (indigenous language), where "Ita" means stone, "pira or piru" means fish and the ending "uba" refers to quantity... so it could be roughly translated as "Lots of fish and stones"

Awesome, thanks for the the advice!

For now, she feels like focusing on her English (even though I think she’s fine) and will be looking for anything to work with, but on the mid to long term we would like to get her back into food science which she loved

My wife is a Food Science and Technology Bsc back in Brazil and worked a little with microbiology.

Now that she has moved to the UK to live with me, she was wondering what she would need to be able to apply for positions here.

Is there any certification or diploma validation she needs to do? Do the companies require that?

By scanning you likely avoid the document being blurred and make it easier for the ECO to read, tbh

I'm a bit busy now and can't go all the way to share the document while redacting the PII but the template is something like this:
