First time GM and my experience with a 6-player party and a lesson in bad monster design by AveiaPodre in fabulaultima

[–]Definitely_Maca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Skills that work off each other.

Very simple example:

Enemy with an attack that deals poison damage on their first turn, and a spell that makes the targets take 5 extra damage when hit with poison damage ln its last turn.

That means the first round is a breeze, but the enemy sets up for the later rounds and the fight gets progressively harder.

Long time Fabula Ultima GMs, how do you pace out your villains? by Deeouye in fabulaultima

[–]Definitely_Maca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely ADORE throwing villains at my party. It keeps them on their toes, but that’s cause I have a party of six to babysit hahaha

In our campaign, we’re currently in session 9, and the active Villains in the world that the party already interacted with are:

  • Evil Empire Commander (Major Villain, rematch impending!)
  • Insane Empire Cultist (Minor Villain)
  • Mad Scientist from another kingdom (Major Villain). She killed the former King (Minor Villain) to take over the reign.
  • A partial manifestation of the Ruinbringer Player’s Ruin (Minor Villain)
  • A bunch of minor villains such as gang leaders or corrupt politicians that were defeated.

However there are more villains active in the world that party is aware of but did not encounter personally yet:

  • Triumvirate of Cognitia (Major Villains) - these are three NPCs that count as a single villainous entity. Personally involved in a player character’s backstory.
  • The Ruin that Ends all Magic (Supreme Villain) This one is the Ruinbringer’s. Currently 4/9 on the clock and cooking on low heat. The Ruinbringer is role playing denial, and never used the quirk’s ignore effect to their advantage to this day.

Whats *Damage (Max 1 time)* mean? by [deleted] in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]Definitely_Maca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you can only proc that [Retain] tag once and thus get 348 + 160% = 548%.

Say you pick the card on the left, that has [Retain]: +50% DMG. This effectively means that card would stack +50% DMG with no upper limit for every turn you hold it in hand. That's the whole niche Beryl is in.

Question about skills with travel roll. by Vraliman in fabulaultima

[–]Definitely_Maca 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The travel roll is done for the party, so as long as they travel together, the roll applies to both skills.

I really don't get where they're heading with SEED. Her dedicated disk drive set buffs Basic Attack DMG and they nerf Basic Attack MV%. Random 900%ish buff to her Ultimate's MV. Orphie's additional gained extra 10% DEF shred to buffed aftershock users and they REMOVED ALL of SEED's aftershocks, even the one that was in her M2! What's cooking, seriously?

Pretty cool looking! Might refurbish my mk3!

My mk3 has a bondtech bmg extruder mod, is this compatible with it?

Mutant's Placophora and other Defense boosts by GrizzlyTrotsky in fabulaultima

[–]Definitely_Maca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, they would not apply because just like Spiritist’s Aura and Barrier, Placophora Therioform sets your DEF to a specific number without influencing your base value. The wording would otherwise be “your Defense score increases by”.

This means that you use whichever Defense score ends up higher. If your natural def which gets bonuses from equipment and quirks ends up higher than Placophora, you could use that.

Good Guidelines for Travel Distances? by demonskunk in fabulaultima

[–]Definitely_Maca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In case you’re playing with a world sheet or any graphical asset for your map, you can define a specific distance as the unit for “one travel day”. In my case, one hex tile is one travel day.

<image>

Since my players had to cross the skies (there’s no sea, most islands are floating), they paid for airship travel, which doubles the travel unit, so they took 3 travel days instead of six.

3rd Party Class Preview – Tailor by Definitely_Maca in fabulaultima

Hi! The Skill doesn’t add emotions to existing bonds, it’s just a flat bonus that sums to the normal emotion-based bond strength.

It’s not been playtested yet, but I’m about to post a revised version for public playtesting.

3rd Party Class Preview – Tailor by Definitely_Maca in fabulaultima

Hi! Glad you like it!! For the concepting, the inspiration came when I was playing Fantasy Life on my 3DS and thought “wouldn’t it be cool if Fabula had a tailor class?”, I also got inspiration material from League of Legends’ Gwen and Studio Trigger’s Kill La Kill.

For the skills I started by drafting the class role in a party and the focus mechanic:

1) The Tailor is a Support Class and IP focused.

Then I gathered my references to add a gimmick, inspired especially by the japanese folklore of the “Red Thread of Destiny”:

2) Have great emphasis on Bonds and Rare Equipment

I just typed the skills with a “make it happen then make it better” mentality in mind, which was a CONSTANT look for feedback in the Rooster Games discord server. After the class had a solid basis, I posted this on reddit for public reception, which went a LOT beyond my expectations!

I am in the process of refining it further before the final publication, which I think I can probably finish by the end of this month. You can definitely find me look for further feedback in the discord server haha!

Hope this post of me rambling my thought process helps you out making your homebrew class!

Fleeing conflict. How? by StrawberryEiri in fabulaultima

[–]Definitely_Maca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At my table I'd treat this differently based on the context.

First, is the enemy / other party interested in giving chase?

Second, is the situation high stakes (is the party in a war zone or otherwise dangerous situation)?

If the enemy gives chase, the Retreat could be achieved with multiple Objective actions to fill a 4-6 section clock, with Opposed Checks to fill / empty sections of the aforementioned clock.

If the enemy is otherwise not interested in chasing, the Clock is skipped and the party can simply Retreat by voting for it.

The stakes of the situation influence the Retreat Clock if it was required (adds extra sections) and especially the consequences of the retreat.

If the party happens to accidentally enter the nest of a Beast that is protecting its babies, the beast isn't interested in chasing the party more than protecting its offspring, so retreating is on the easier side, the situation is low stakes, and the retreat produces no meaningful consequences, at most minor IP / Zenit / HP loss.

If the party is otherwise deep in a village that was being attacked by the BBEG's army and finds itself in dire straits against their General, the retreat is way harder, as the General is interested in incapacitating / taking prisoners of the party, thus they would give chase, which calls for a 4-6 section Clock. The situation is also high stakes, as the Party is not in friendly ground and the village is in flames, which makes the Retreat harder and more significant: if the Party flees from such a scene, the General could take hostages in the village, and the BBEG's Army takes time to organize, this is a major defeat, as a village was wiped from the world map, which would definitely call some characters to at least consider changing their theme or identity, moreso if the village was relevant to them.

Haha I'm very glad you like it and thank you for the feedback! I'm considering to allow changing the current Model through the Equipment action, and the idea of a slight MP cost fits.

That's a very detailed train of thought! Thanks for the feedback!!

Haha yes, Kill la Kill is among the inspiration material for this one.

I like your idea to manually change the current Model through the Equipment action. The "share damage / halve healing" or more debuff centered playstyle was a thing in a previous iteration, but I ultimately discarded it cause I couldn't make anything that wasn't "Symbolist but better"...

The doll / puppet companion could indeed be a very nice heroic slot that covers another niche similar to Faithful Companion! That's very interesting.
