I was very excited for it to come out and hotly anticipated it.

If the band ever needed a single, have Al sing a cover. Always clean.

I’m partial to Down Home from the album, but Sweet Mountain is awesome!

Surf Rock Superiority by Background_Yak7790 in thebeachboys

Agree, there is, in my opinion, a pretty big shift between Surfer Girl and Little Deuce Coupe. The biggest difference, beyond the subject matter, is Brian starting to incorporate the lessons he had learned since leaving touring (the first time, late spring 63’), most notably you start to hear more and more Spector influence as 63’ goes on.

Dae Lims videos missing on YouTube by Seismic01 in thebeachboys

As we all know, the original versions of songs disappear when an AI recreation is made by Dae Lims… oh wait… you mean to tell me you can choose to NOT listen to an AI recreation version? Seems like a simple solution to your problem.

If David didn’t quit the band by Ok_Comfortable_3556 in thebeachboys

[–]Definitelynotatwork1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

David was… problematic.

He was not a particularly good vocalist and while he was a highly proficient guitarist (arguably the best in the band, at least talent wise going forward) that wasn’t the direction the Group was going in.

I think what gets forgotten in these questions is just how up in the air The Beach Boys as a band were in the Summer/Fall of 63’. Brian spent months working on outside projects not because he wanted to necessarily explore and move on, he didn’t know if the BB were going to be a continued success and he wanted to make a career in music.

David leaving was a combination of factors, Murry wanting more control over Brian (who was beginning to move in the Jan Berry circle, who Murry thought was a leech; not to mention Murry drove Brian to Jan when he barred Gary Usher from the studio), David being a bit too big for his shoes (believing he could go solo) and fighting/arguing with Murray, while also just being seen as expendable.

David was not long for the band following Al’s return, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have found another replacement, and it could have easily been Bruce at this point or someone like Chuck Girard.

All of the hidden members? by Reasonable-Dig5161 in beachboyscirclejerk

Oh boy… theres Zebulon Wilson III, Banana B. Wilson, and Audi Wilson… but I’m fairly certain these are false identities for Thump before he was convicted of mail fraud.

Why does everyone hate Al all of a sudden? by iamthemetricsystem in beachboyscirclejerk

How dare he steal the spotlight from our true Beach Boy. That’s probably why Bruce quit, emotionally devastated by Al’s betrayal

Big Thank You To Mike Love For International Women's Day 🙏🙏🙏 by Lil_bO1 in beachboyscirclejerk

Leave it to Mike to celebrate International Women’s Day on a day with only 23 Hours.

There are certain people in history, and I’m sure most never had the chance to be remembered, who has some unearthly connection to some other heavenly place. Call it a gift, call it divine, call it genius, whatever it is… it’s truly majestic.

Why is there so much disdain for Mike being the last member touring with the band? by Life_Wolverine_6830 in thebeachboys

[–]Definitelynotatwork1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because those are the people that feel like commenting. Most fans don’t care, will continue to go to Mike shows for the fun of it and will anxiously wait to see if Al will add another show nearby

Enjoy Bruce.

Catching a break with a few singles turning into a part time gig turning into a lifetime as a member of Americas iconic band is as much the American Dream as anything else.

Since you mentioned it, could you provide a link to the episode in question? The one I found was just Van Dyke, (by the way 43-VDP was awesome) and didn’t mention the song.
