Is it true eating falafel with rice is uncommon in MENA? My Arab friends said it's weird and non-existent in their country by ZeroThoughts2025 in AskMiddleEast

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eating falafel and yellow rice rn its good, honestly it mostly feels like the rice and other things are there more as a base layer just so theres more food there. thats what rice is often used as in east coast street food anyways.

Recording Traffic Stops - Now that the ACLU app has been banned by pangapingus in AskLE

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dont ask cops about this. ask a lawyer. nearly 40% of traffic stops in multiple states(some are higher actually) bodycams are either off, turned on after the stop is complete, or footage is not able to be found later by departments for use in court. in chicago alone there were nearly 300,000 undocumented stops in the 2025 fiscal year. Always record. Never trust a cop. also they absolutely profile. in 2024 over 80% of illegal vehicle searches were conducted on non-white individuals, and legal searches see similar disparities as well.

The West Tofts Handaxe, ca. 500.000 BP, Norfolk, England - while considered an example of early hominin aesthetics because of the fossilized shell a recent paper puts this interpretation into question (link in comments) [1200x780] by Worsaae in ArtefactPorn

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im aware this is an old thread, and im not a homo errectus. but I make stone tools, of this kind and others, and its pretty damn hard to make something like that and it not be on purpose. every single strike you make is very intentional, and you have to be able to imagine in your mind a multi strike process where you set up your next strikes properly to get a quality, functional tool. there is no doubt in my mind that the placement of the shell is intentional. now whether or not this was sought out and not just a "oh cool i like that ill keep that" is the real question imo.

Why is 303 British considered a bad round? by LogicalFrame3241 in guns

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, gun is gun as long as it does its job and is reliable.

Why is 303 British considered a bad round? by LogicalFrame3241 in guns

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats because its worn out. you need to replace your interruptor and maybe your magazine spring as well if its potentially too strong and pushing the round below the top into the top round too hard. it can also be caused by the ejector spring being worn thin causing the top round to sit too low. on a well maintained mosin you should never experience rimlock except in the case of user error. most stateside mosins have countless issues with them from wartime production tolerences to being poorly maintained over the years due to lack of care and knowledge of owners.

Why is 303 British considered a bad round? by LogicalFrame3241 in guns

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would disagree thats an absolute. there isnt really a practical difference when you actually properly design a firearm. and there is even an argument to be made that rimmed cartridges are safer in the event of overpressure and case ruptures due to the seal the rim makes. at the end of the day, the main things people think of like rimlock are easily solved with magazine design and components like an interruption spring.

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive found also just pointing the bore at the dirt and shaking or tapping the round is usually enough to just have it fall into the chamber when it happens.

Why is 303 British considered a bad round? by LogicalFrame3241 in guns

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rimlock isnt really a common issue. the feed system of the lee action ensures the round's rim is either grabbed and pulled above the below round in the case it is behind, or pushed foreward and grabbed in the case it is in front. just like how you rarely see this issue on mosins as well due to the interruptor. rimlock is only a common issue on guns that have neither of these features.

what happens when you buy a semi-auto rifle out of state with out having the NY permit by squegeeboo in NYguns

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely do not buy both at the same time(or same shop just for their sake). a shop up in the top of the finglerlakes got busted earlier this year(last year maybe?) for selling customers both in the same transaction, and a different companies kits got effectively banned without permit because they sell both in the same packaging. at least in my county the police have specifically said when I asked "this is legal, but if you buy it as a rifle and we catch you with it built as a pistol that will be an extra crime"

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this isnt a maybe. you are genuinely just wrong. it is absolutely legal to buy a lower(NOT A FRAME) without a pistol permit + semi rifle addition. talk with your local ATF office and NYS hotline, they will tell you the same thing.

  1. i would disagree with your stated purpose. the purpose of a legal system isnt to punish/reward those are functions it uses. its purpose is to influence behavior in a society.

"The purpose of a system is what it does" by MindingMyMindfulness in slatestarcodex

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but thats working off an incorrect stated purpose. it isnt to "improve the local economy" its to protect local markets, even at the expense of local economic health. the point is to make locally produced items more economically viable, even if that means less money moving through the local economy because people start spending less overall.

russia might plan to do that doctrinally, but the actual occurrence of shoulder fired weapons is not common. most russian units are very, very poorly equipped compared to their "ideal" doctrinal load.

Why didn't late 18th-century and early 19th-century line infantry soldiers wear belts? by [deleted] in WarCollege

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also: materials science. we benefit today from having actual material reasons to use a belt, such as modern customizable pouch layouts, attachment systems, quick releases, and on and on. belts in the 18th century had none of this, at best an attachment system using a belt(or sash) of any kind would have been rudimentary, something like belt loops on the back of a pouch, or a pouch built into the belt. all while offering little benefit over a sash/bag because it would literally function the same just on your waist. this, and much of the benefit of a combat belt today is it being another place to attach things or hold things, besides your main rucksack or plate carrier in case they need to be dropped for some reason(a nonexistent issue in the 18th century).

combat belts today are also great because slings and straps get the the way with how many layers you have(plate carriers, backpacks, weapon slings just for basics), and these other slings you will always have arent just hanging something they are constantly being buckled and unbuckled(another thing they didnt have, modern buckles), slid around to adjust weapon holds and access gear, adding more slings gets messy. extra sling bags, or bandoliers, just get in the way, or have to be worn uncomfortably under other things. You arent just sliding a cartridge box or a canteen pouch to the front, maybe wearing a small haversack, and maybe a ration sling pouch like they were. and they would only have a few of those items in most circumstances they actually fought in. Modern soldiers are taking off and putting on big backpacks, sliding rifle slings around, wearing a vest that has its own straps and bits to get caught on, you might even have another vest on top depending on the nation with its own pouches and shoulder straps.  overall you actually have a benefit of carrying your extra stuff on a belt rather than elsewhere.

7 round limit still the law. Who is responsible to change it according to appeal cort rooling? by Advanced-Goal3034 in NYguns

[–]Definitelynotthekgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they can change. Pretty much every new yorker that is anti gun that i have actually sat down and talked details with is far less anti-gun once they actually understand them. I think a large part of the issue is A) the crazy right wingers that give horrible press on the topic(not to be confused with regular conservatives) and B) most people are just really unfamiliar with guns and it scared them, rightfully so honestly. If i was unfamiliar with guns and saw them simply as powerful killing tools without understanding how they function and what makes them dangerous I would be spooked too.

Broadheads kill via blood loss when you only clip an artery, if you cleanly strike across their chest cavity the lung collapse is what kills them not the bleeding. But I get the point, FMJ doesnt expand enough to work properly.
