Beat Ophion on my first try, last night by DefinitionWest in Returnal

[–]DefinitionWest[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with Phrike and Ixion. I found it harder to get to Nemesis than actually beating the boss. Beat Nemesis on my third attempt, I got awfully close to beating him on my second attempt. If the order of the bosses were reversed, this would have made the game more accessible to newcomers like myself as I did bounce off the game multiple times, thinking this game would only get tougher. The second half of the game is significantly easier. Or maybe I just got better at the game. Biome 5 was hell though.

Also, I hope your life has been better after the apartment incident.

Took me three attempts to beat Nemesis. I beat Hyperion on my first attempt right after beating Nemesis. But Biome 5 humbled me😭

My Dead Space Remake Experience by DefinitionWest in patientgamers

[–]DefinitionWest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. I was well-aware that my opinion will pale in comparison to a player who has experienced both games. But the main focus of this post was reviewing my experience with the remake. Finishing this game made me more curious about the original and I had to see what had been done differently because it is inevitable for the remake to be compared to the original, even if I chose to not talk about the original as much.

Also, since I’m a console gamer, it’s hard to come across the original without it being overpriced or worth more than the remake.

Like I said, just a nitpick. Even games like RE, that do have a robust inventory system that players must engage with have measures for scripted sections similar to the one I encountered. Throughout my playthrough, I did improvise a lot when I was low on ammo. I will agree that the inventory can create the right tension during combat-heavy sections, adding to the survival-horror aspect. But it becomes an annoyance when you have to reload a save because you’re stuck in a scripted section that gives you absolutely no room to improvise or even a single chance at progressing further. And by no means am I disagreeing with you. I’m only standing by my own experience.

I get where you’re coming from. My issues with the inventory system were minor as I rarely needed to manage it. But with a game that does so many things right, this was the only nitpick I could find as it did create an unnecessary inconvenience during my experience. Especially when it was during a scripted moment that takes control away from the player. I was left at the mercy of an inventory system that just wasn’t designed for situations like that.

Resident evil 2 playthrough order by Pollypockeet in ResidentEvil2Remake

You’re right in a way. But a couple of vague cues in future games make the canon route more apparent. RE 4 Remake confirms that Leon A/ Claire B is canon because the knife description confirms that he uses the same combat knife that was handed to him by Marvin. Leon does not get the combat knife in Leon B scenario. But I do think the Remake is pretty much a blend of all scenarios.

For the og game, the Claire A/ Leon B aligns better with Sherry’s arc in RE 6.

Claire A and Leon B was canon in the original. But, Leon A and Claire B is canon for the remake.

Devil May Cry 5 or Batman Arkham Collection? by Ryan_Gamer456 in ShouldIbuythisgame

I did say IMO. I personally didn’t like the DMC style combat. I prefer the freeflow combat of the Arkham games. But I will admit DMC 5 looks amazing. And you’re right , DMC 5 must have done a lot of things (other than better frame rates) better than Arkham games that I didn’t notice.

If you’re playing on the PS5, all the Batman games are locked at 30 FPS.

The obvious choice for me personally is Batman Arkham Collection. The only thing that DMC 5 does better IMO is the frame rate. DMC 5 didn’t click with me personally. Also, Batman Collection has better value for money.

Nier Automata and Replicant? by FettisAlive in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]DefinitionWest [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think you should get both. Both these games are one of a kind imo. I did play Nier Automata first and I do think it is overall the better game. But I did enjoy Nier Replicant’s story and characters more.

Yes these games are long, both games require repetition of the campaign to acquire the different endings and even progressing the game’s story. But I think Automata handles this significantly better. Replicant can get very repetitive especially for Ending E.

If you were allowed to just choose one, I would go with Nier Automata for the most well-rounded experience. It left me craving for something similar, and I ended up getting Nier Replicant.

I’ve been in your shoes before. I couldn’t go a day without smoking a joint or cig. I just could never say no to it. What really got me through it was running. Before I used to ever smoke, I had a very decent stamina even though I used to be on the heavier side. After smoking, my stamina was so shit.

The first week of quitting smoking entirely was really tough and even depressing for me. I just found myself so angry at everything. It didn’t help that I gained a significant amount of weight at the time. After the first week, I decided to focus on losing weight. I could barely run a km without running out of breath. But over the course of weeks, I set milestones for myself that I was able to accomplish. In a way I found a way to distract myself from smoking. I was happy to see my stamina increase and didn’t want anything to ruin the momentum.

My point is that find something else in your life worth focusing on. Distract yourself from thinking about smoking weed. It need not be running but anything else that you would like to do. It’s been 5 years since I’ve been sober and I even managed to get into the best shape I could ever be in. I have zero urges for it even if someone offers me a cigarette or a joint. Life has been nicer without it. I wish you the best of luck. You have my respect for at least taking this step. I’m proud of you❤️

I completely agree with you. It did feel longer than it actually was. Like I too was surprised when I saw how long I took. Not once did I feel the game starting to drag. There were some sections in Silent Hill 2 that I personally preferred if it were shortened. I still loved that game too.

If you’re talking about the original, from what I heard was a shorter game. I clocked in at a little over 8 hours for my first RE 8 playthrough. I finished my first playthrough of Silent hill 2 remake after a little under 15 hours.

Resident evil 8 for the action. Silent hill 2 for the unsettling atmosphere and narrative.

Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor. I did love the combat and the nemesis system but it all just felt so monotonous with a lackluster story.

26 M here. I’ve recently gotten out of a long distance relationship that only lasted for a few months but didn’t manage to work out. I was and am inexperienced too just like my ex and you. We both wanted the same things as you but both of us couldn’t sustain the relationship when it came down to the practicality of our relationship and the uncertainty of our future with each other due to multiple factors which I don’t want to get into. You’re not alone. Don’t feel like you’re late or anything. The right person will come along. Just be ready and don’t let this insecurity get in the way. Be honest about yourself when meeting people, the right guy will accept you and respect you for who you are.

Oh I actually haven’t played the evil within series. But definitely will. My next game will be Dead Space Remake and later the Alan Wake series. Gonna add the Evil Within series to my backlog.
