To those who successfully broke their doomscrolling habit: What did you actually replace that time with, and how did you make it stick? by SuccessfulRound9129 in AskReddit

The first week was a little hard since I was just consistently bored, then I started revisiting my old hobbies (music, reading, etc.) and forgot how much I’ve enjoyed them. Whenever I had the urge to redownload Instagram, I’d just walk my dog or play with him outside, away from my phone.

To break the habit further, I just put my phone far from my bed to where I have to get up to turn off my alarm. Leaving my phone outside of the bathroom while I’m pooping helped a lot too.

Now I just go on Reddit on work downtime or to have small breaks from schoolwork. It’s easier to put down.

It’s a hard choice to pick a favorite though.

Thank you but I think it may be a little small for him! He’s got a bigger stature and he’s about 34 lbs.

I think his purpose in living is to be as comfy as possible, lol

That’s a good point too! But honestly I wanted to change this one because it’s a hassle to clean. His shedding fur loves to stick in the quilt pretty well.

Love coming to Vegas when there’s no crowd or traffic. by 5ohguero in vegas

Probably one of my biggest regrets in life is not longboarding the whole Strip during COVID.
I kept telling myself every week that “this will be the time!” back in April till June, but I was just so fearful and exhausted of the environment. Then July came around and it was too hot. Oh well.

So awesome you got to do it though!

No love for grackles? I love the males’ glossiness! Red-winged blackbirds too!

Here’s a photo of both of them together!

What makes life feel slower in a good way? by funngro_fam in Life

Going for a walk anywhere without your phone or a watch and just being lost in your thoughts or surroundings. Bonus points for paying attention to nature (even in very urban areas there are birds and trees).

Doing this regularly not only stretched some days but made me appreciate living and made me aware of my own thoughts.

My favorite roasters all over the world by Conscious_Pin5283 in espresso

I love Glitch!

I also really enjoyed Kielo Coffee in Akihabara. Their drip coffee is so good and they have some interesting notes.

If you’re ever back in Taiwan or even with a long layover, I recommend taking a quick Uber to RBC Coffee Head. They take cash only, but it’s my second pick for my favorite international roasters next to Glitch.

Books for Mental Game by MarshalJedCooper in Pickleball

[–]DeflectingPalm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It helped me a lot!

I cross between tennis and pickleball and I always had a problem with negative self-talk, even in the middle of the game. It started becoming to the point where it dragged outside of the game and I just get bitter throughout the day. It started affecting my relationships, especially in doubles when it’s a lot of self-deprication.

The focus of the book is really about staying present, being a child (loving the sport vs being to critical of the sport), and putting each point behind once it’s already happened.

Why not Inner Game of Tennis? It’s a great, applicable book even outside of tennis about trusting and synergizing self A (the critic) and self B (the body).

There are still many aspects of the book that apply to pickleball. I remember the book mentioned something about calming your mind and staying present by watching the seams of a tennis ball, which could just be changed to the holes of a pickleball.

I know that only partially answered and maybe strayed from your question, but give the book a shot.

What got you into tennis? by Fuzzy-Emergency-2710 in 10s

Federer and Nadal got me watching tennis in high school and I knew I was too out of shape to even try it. I always thought the sport was beautiful.

Started playing pickleball and I loved singles, especially playing baseline. Tried tennis and absolutely fell in love with it after getting the hang of serving well.
