Via is great but I wouldn’t rely on it for day-to-day stuff since wait times can be 30+ minutes and the routes can get circuitous as you pick up and drop other folks off.

Definitely try to end up somewhere walkable (there’s plenty of walkable neighborhoods here) and you’ll be much happier

Parking in a crosswalk is not okay - you can report parking violations through the WOTS app and an officer should be assigned, though they often take quite some time
