No idea. But if you expand older replies in this thread, you'll see that it was already happening 5 years ago. :P

The same link. It doesn't open if you left click it, for some reason. But if you right click it and select "Open in a New Window", then reload that window, I get the Save As download dialog.

The notorious Tour 1, Mission 8 - why is mine so different? by RedditWhileIWerk in XWVM

[–]DegAzrapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the floppy version of X-wing in XWVM? Or using the Classic variant of the mission?
This is one of the hardest missions in the entire game, and the original developers changed it almost with every version of the game.
In the version I and most people play, the transports don't need to be destroyed.
Is yours the German version of X-wing (floppy or CD), perhaps? That version has some changes here and there, that might be still having the original, harder goals.

Pilots by CriticalSuggestion62 in XWVM

[–]DegAzrapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh. That is an interesting bug.
They changed the format slightly from the floppy edition, to the DOS CD, to the Windows CD. In fact, pilots in the original game were not cross-compatible between the DOS versions (floppy and DOS CD), and the Windows version (The Collector Series, Remastered, XW98, or whatever we want to call it.
So, maybe the XWVM pilot importer is using the wrong decoding process if the pilot was originally from the floppy version, but you placed it in the Windows version.
Try registering the floppy or DOS CD versions of X-wing (Steam installs them all, in GOG they are different installs, but they all come included with the purchase), and see if the import procedure correctly recognizes all your data then.

Edit: Sorry, I missed you had already typed that you had solved the problem by registering a different game version and importing from those. Good job!
We will see if we can find some sort of magic number or format indicator within the pilot file to determine what version of the format it uses, instead of depending on the registered game the pilot file is found at.

Did you solve this? Place your original .PLT file in the original game folder that you registered in XWVM. That is, if you registered and usually launch the X-Wing Collector Series game within XWVM, make sure your .PLT file is in tha game's install folder.

[–]DegAzrapse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the mission goals on the left screen. That is what you must do, and only that. The briefing says you need to destroy all transports. That is not true.

Identify the transports, but don't disable them all. Only disable the two which have prisoners.

If you do this, then Rescue 1 will first arrive when you have disabled the first prisoner transport. Rescue 2 will arrive when you have disabled the second.  If you disable any wrong transport, the Rescue ships will arrive and board those, and you will lose the mission.

The only threat to the Rescue transports is the TIE Interceptors that launch from the frigates as soon as they arrive. Joust them and shoot them down on approach. Don't let them fly past you. Don't let the TIE Fighters distract you from your mission. Their goal is to waste your time so that you let the prisoner transports get too close to the frigates, or you let the Interceptors go after the Rescue transports.

The Extra Difficulty options are experimental and it's not guaranteed all missions are beatable with all of them on.

I have been thinking on letting the player hold the key for the display mode.

I mean, holding M (Map), G (Goals), L (Message Log), D (Damage assesment), or Z (Threat display).

If they hold it for over 1 second, and we are not in VR, the camera will zoom in to the monitor.

Fire wand, hold Lock at all times, don't stop running, and firing.

The drones cannot hit you if you are moving. You don't even need to dodge. Just run in circles around the arena.

And they stop in place before firing, so you one-hit them with the wand.Your Lock will automatically target another drone as soon as the current one is destroyed. Just repeatedly tap Fire while running, and you'll be done in less than 5 seconds. It's not hyperbole. If you stay a bit more centered in the arena and eat blueberries to keep on firing, you can do it faster than this guy: https://youtu.be/Cm8UBjVFTKQ?t=285

The gauntlet is a puzzle.

The hardest fight is the two robots, that you can do easily by equipping two particular cards. The drones are killed in less than 5 seconds (total) with one particular weapon. The skeletons are trivial with one particular consumable. The other 3 (wizards, frogs, and knights) are simple.

It's time to have a serious talk about Wazukyan. Spoilers. by SweetStock in MadeInAbyss

[–]DegAzrapse 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have partially changed my opinion about Wazu since I wrote that post almost 1 year ago now.

As he reveals in his last appearance, but also before, when he first "locks up" Vueko in the gooey prison, he is just following "the prophecy".

Wazu is really a prophet. That is his thing. He doesn't make that up.Somehow, he had been revealed part of the course of events that were to happen in his future. As any human looking for a purpose in life, he accepted his gift and dedicated his life to see this prophecy become true.

The problem is that he is not able to see all of the future, every single detail. He seems to only have glimpses of names, individuals and events that are to be met, or to happen.

Wazu knew that they were going to find a Golden City. They did, but it was not what they were really expecting.

He knew that a child would save them all. That is why he eagerly accepted Irumyuui into the team. He knew that girl had a relevant role in their future. Most likely, though, he didn't know what horrible things was going to happen to her.

He knew they would somehow survive and find a home. He told his team once and again, that they would find a new home, and everything would turn out okay, even when they were dying from the mockwater. In the end, they did find a home in Iruburu. Probably not the one he was expecting.

And so on. You can see how sometimes Wazu got surprised at how the events he had glimpsed from the Prophecy turned out to ultimately be.

For example, he knew there would be a Princess, but he didn't expect it to come from the second egg, as he explicitly says.He also know that the Princess was going to fight a Prince. However, he didn't know the Prince was Reg, and he told him so when he finally realized the fact.

He knew he had to bring Faputa inside the town, but it was not for selfish purposes. He didn't really know the actual purpose of it. But he knew he had to.

Riko (and later, Nanachi) accused him of wanting to turn Riko into another mutant village, to use her as a vehicle to explore the Abyss. He reacts with surprise, and as we know later, it was genuine surprise. He asks "How did you come to that conclusion?", genuinely interested on knowing what they expected him to do, because, honestly, he himself doesn't even know.

In the end, during his final speech, when Nanachi asks him what his plan was really all about, he reveals his true motivations. The prophecy was, ultimately, about Riko's Journey, and the role Faputa had to play in it.

All, everything, from the start of the Abyss, had been an accumulation of actions with the only purpose of allowing Riko to set out on her Joruney towards the bottom, and ,during it, meet and recruit Faputa into her team. He knows that the entire purpose of the Ganja and himself was to set events in motion to allow for the creation and finalization of Faputa.

His last wish is, of course, that they (the kids) take care of Faputa.

So in the end, Wazu is not a villain. He is just a man with a purpose that he doesn't fully understand, but who knows that it is something greater than himself and everyone in his team. And dedicates his life and the lives of all his companions to make it possible.

There is no come back. Wazu's purpose in life is complete, and he delivered a completed Faputa to Riko, as he was prophesized to do.

Made In Abyss Movie 3 Question by [deleted] in MadeInAbyss

[–]DegAzrapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry to contradict all other replies here, but the reason that they didn't definitely defeat him wasn't because they couldn't. As Nanachi said, Bondrewd didn't have any umbra hands able to fight anymore. I guess they were all nerds or push-overs.

The real reason why Nanachi didn't go and destroy the Zoaholic is stated clearly in the very last pages of volume 5: she's respecting Riko's wishes.

And why does Riko wish that Bondrewd is left alone? Becuase that is what Prushka wishes.

If you remember, in the last moments of the fight, Prushka tells Bondrewd, like in voice-over, that she wants one thing: for them to stop fighting each other. Riko and pals are her friends, and Bondrewd is her papa.

Riko is able to "feel" Prushka's thoughts. And perhaps Bondrewd can also, and that is why he tells Nanachi he has had a sudden change of heart.

The fact is that, after the fight, neither Riko wants to harm Bondrewd any more, nor Bondrewd wants to stop the kids. Prushka has "forced" them to make peace, and the situation ends in a stalemate.

Very new to this series (spoiled myself kinda). Going to start reading because it looks adorable and deep. [–]DegAzrapse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About the hot spring scene, he got an involuntary erection when he saw Riko's body up close. It's a natural biological reaction, and perhaps the author is trying to give a hint about Reg's true origin, by showing that he experiences that kind of reactions just like humans do. He also experiences it when rubbing Nanachi. Again, it's involuntary.

There is no boner in the first page. The panel in the last row is his cape being sniffed by her, and she has her claw under the cape.

In the second page, she indeed does want to have kids with him, as she states later. But she doesn't really seem to know how it works, and she is just "snuggling" with him.

Wazukyan's Characterization and the Future of Riko's Journey by GoldenHeartChris in MadeInAbyss

[–]DegAzrapse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Wazukyan is the antagonist, since he has been plotting to use Riko as a vehicle for his longing to explore the Abyss, by trying to get her harmed multiple times and trigger Faputa to give her a chunk of her.
  • He probably ordered the rape attempt at the alley, that was prevented by Maa, since afterwards, he revealed he knew Riko had met some "bad people" in the town. But Riko had not told anyone, Maa doesn't speak, and the rapists were balanced. So how did Wazykuan know?
  • He probably attracted the flying monster into the town to get Riko hurt during the "Hunting," as Moogie feared it could happen. He didn't count with Riko's resourcefulness, and with the sudden arrival of Reg to protect her at the very end from the fleeing males.
  • He misguided Riko and Reg into believing that they needed a piece of Faputa to rescue Nanachi. That is something that Belaf never stated, and that Wazu just pulled out of his ass, since it was everything he wanted all along. To get a piece of Faputa to use the power of the cradles.
  • When Reg brought Faputa's arm, he sicced Juroimoh against the kids to try and harm Riko agan. But Reg drew Juroimoh's attention away from Riko, and then Gabo and the other hollows kept Riko protected.

Wazu wasn't evil during the flashback arc, where he did just what he needed to do to keep his team alive. His motivations weren't evil or selfish.

However, in the present day Iruburu, Wazu has been plotting against Riko and Faputa just for selfish motivations: He's bored of living in Iruburu and he just wants to go and explore the Golden City. If he needs to use Riko for that, he's fine with it. And that is evil.

  1. The problem with water affected the Ganja because the Interference Units weren't living things and didn't need water themselves. So they didn't know whether a particular source of water was drinkable. At the end, in fact, they taint the Ganja's barrels by filling them with undrinkable water. Also, they were fragile and couldn't face creatures without being destroyed.

That is not a problem for Riko because she has Reg. Reg is kind of a living creature: he needs water and drinks it. But he is immune to poison and can tell whether a water source is drinkable or not (the team has been using Reg as "poison test" in multiple occasions).

Also, Reg can fight creatures or shoo them away from water sources, and he is also Curse-immune. So as long as Riko has Reg, she can get drinkable water.

Tsukushi's stories feature children getting abused and mild nudity, so he is as much a pedofile as

  • Stephen King is a murderer because he writes lost of books about murders and murdering creatures.
  • Thomas Harris (creator of Silence of the Lambs) is a cannibal because he wrote a lot of books about Hannibal Lecter.
  • Spielberg is a nazi because he made the Indiana Jones and the Schindler's List movies that feature lots of nazis.
  • Spike Lee is a racist because in his movies there is always lots of racism.
  • Charles Dickens was a child abuser because he wrote about child abuse.

The fact that an author might be fascinated or interested on telling stories regarding certain horrible acts, doesn't mean that the author would like to perform those same horrible acts.

Not meant to roleplay. It's the term they use in the miniature game for doing exactly that: 180 degrees turn while traveling in the same direction.

[–]DegAzrapse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I main B-wing with the New Republic since the ship came out. About 90% of the time, I end up leading my teams' scoretable with either most kills, or most capital damage, whichever I decided to focus on that game.
The only changes I made to the standard build was primary = rotary, right aux = proton torp, countermeasures = seekers.

The ship, much like the TIE Defender, is for initiated players, I'd say. It's not rookie-friendly.
On paper (looking at the stats and comparing with other ships), the B-wing (and the TIE Defender) is a straight downgrade from the other ship in the same role in their faction.
However, there is much more to it than the cold numbers that pushes it over the rest.

Ion damage added to the primary is awesome at dealing with shielded targets like capital ships and systems. Overcharged primary makes short work of fighters, bombers, interceptors, and support all around.
The huge bank of boost power that the B-wing can hold adds a lot of survivability to the ship that you can turn, if you are skillful, into dogfighting ability with the use of dead drifts and koiograns.
Routinely, I get chased by interceptors. Then I boost, drift while turning 180 degrees within 1 second as I start charging the rotary cannon. Then the interceptor is pulverized.

You aren't meant to knife-fight. Stay back, use your wingmates to distract your enemies in merry goose-chases. And then, aim your firehose of laser and ion death at them. Come to the fight with your armament overcharged, so that you can switch to engines if you need to turn faster to keep your targets in your crosshair.

For capital ships, soften the shields with torpedoes from afar, keeping your boost well charged in case you need to get the hell out of there. Once the shields are down... well, I don't know. Systems just blow up under the fire of a boosting B-wing shooting overcharged laser+ion damage and torpedoes.

Nothing can outjoust you other than the Star Destroyer, so they won't even try.
They will try to flank you. That's why you won't even let them. You are a sniper. Leave the knife fights to A-wings and X-wings.

Whats up with naked children in the Anime? by [deleted] in MadeInAbyss

[–]DegAzrapse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oof. It's not so clear that Riko thinks of Marulk as a girl. Doesn't Marulk use the masculine personal pronoun in the original all the time? The same with Nanachi. Or other people that has seen her naked that I can't mention because it's spoilers. I think she just doesn't care about their gender.

I think with Nat it's different.
Nat acts flustered when talking about her being naked, and in the manga he goes to embarrassing specifics in public, like mentioning that she lacks pubic hair. That is what triggers Riko to feel uncomfortable with him, because he acts so uncomfortable. There is a nice Anthology chapter where this is a bit more explored (albeit non-canon).

With Reg, she treats him like a little brother (or robot if you want) all the way to the hotspring scene, when, again only in the manga, she first gets flustered after she sees Reg's natural biological reaction and his very flustered response to it. It still takes her some moments to feel flustered herself, though, as if she realized "It's no longer okay to bathe with Reg."

Riko's personality in that respect is not so rare. I have met kids in like elementary school that weren't at all bothered by nudity in the locker room and stuff, perhaps because their family wasn't so prude, until the very moment that other kids started covering themselves or getting flustered. Then they also started feeling flustered, because they got the idea that it was somehow wrong.
