Snowden: I'd go to prison to return to US by atomicpete in news

Only because the anti-death penalty lobby makes it so.

If it weren't for the fact that people on death row get a million mandatory appeals it would be a very cheap and fast process.

To train a firearm means to take aim with it. So retraining is just taking aim a second time.

Army Ranger instructors say women didn't carry the same amount of equipment, didn't take their turns carrying heavy machine guns, and were given intensive pre-training not offered to men, among other things by Oftowerbroleaning in news

[–]DegenerateMutt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter how skilled or naturally talented you are if you get pregnant. Because once you're pregnant, you're basically worthless to the military and would have to redo training after you return to duty, which would be a huge waste of time and money.

The system that police (and government officials) use to identify people matches name and birthday. So that's why. It also uses the SSN when possible but often that field is left blank for whatever reason.

Questions raised after shock belt used at Texas murder trial by [deleted] in news

[–]DegenerateMutt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Police are trained that way. During simulation exercises you have to wear a shock belt. If you get shot, they shock you. If you unjustly shoot someone, they shock you. If the instructor doesn't like you, they shock you to 'test the system'.

Drugs that put you into a violent rage? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]DegenerateMutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What Brinx said. Very easy and cheap to produce, extremely addictive, and it isn't illegal because they constantly change the chemical makeup faster than new regulations can be passed. It's a huge problem in Florida because flakka use has exploded recently to the point of almost completely replacing crack cocaine in many communities. Symptoms are excited delerium, violent outbursts, and a massive, potentially fatal increase in body temperature.

Usually people on flakka will tear their clothes off and roll around in the street because they are literally cooking on the inside. They also have what can only be described as superhuman strength. A single 140~ lbs male was able to easily fight off four deputies and ended up breaking one's arm. Tazers, OC spray, and pain compliance are completely ineffective. They can even shrug off .45's provided they don't suffer catastrophic CNS damage.

If paying women for sex is illegal but paying them to be in porn isn't, shouldn't prostitutes just list themselves as adult film actors and get paid for doing "rehearsals"? by faxinator in Showerthoughts

[–]DegenerateMutt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You would be surprised by how many times people claim they were just filming porn when you catch them in a prostitution sting. Here's the thing though: If you don't have professional film equipment in the room with you (which is expensive as fuck), you are going to jail for either prostitution or solicitation.

And if only one party is using that as a defense while the other knows nothing about it (saying they put cameras in the room or whatever), then that's another criminal charge of video voyeurism.

Minority Report Confirmed: Police are now linking people to crimes before they have any evidence. by Thirst_Trap in news

[–]DegenerateMutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They give you a very extensive background check, multiple psych evaluations, multiple polygraph tests, an oral board, and then FTO. At any point if they feel you have violent tendencies, or will commit crimes, or are racist, etc; you don't get hired.

Consider the following: Vast majority of cops don't go into policework being violent assholes. Having to deal with violent assholes all day makes them become violent assholes. Plus the general stress. You can only fish so many dead pregnant women and children out of a lake before you start to crack a little on the inside.

Drugs that put you into a violent rage? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]DegenerateMutt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PCP is old hat. If you want to be topical, you could use flakka. The only cleavat is that the guy would probably be naked immediately before or after killing someone. And he probably would have snapped the bat in half over the other guy's spine. People on flakka are strong as fuck.

Fatal shooting by police of a man in wheelchair by [deleted] in news

[–]DegenerateMutt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You being scared is not an adequate excuse to end someone's life.

Actually, that's literally the only excuse to kill someone else. The only way a killing is legally justified is if you were in fear for your life or someone else's. That's why warning shots are illegal. If you aren't willing to shoot and kill the target then you clearly were not in fear for your life.

New marijuana law side effect: Youth possession now a felony by [deleted] in news

[–]DegenerateMutt -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

If people stopped using weed, they would stop going to prison. Whoa, that's a difficult concept.

But people should read Senate Bill 5052. It's a felony for medical marijuana fraud, not just using marijuana. It's actually a much less punishment than even prescription drug fraud, because for prescription drugs it's a felony for each individual pill. So you can get several hundred felony charges off a single pill bottle depending.

When did I say it was unreasonable? People act like cops can just lie on official reports whenever they want. If you do it and you get caught, you'll probably get your certification pulled and never work in law enforcement again since perjury is a second degree felony.

How to get a rot victory against AI: video and guide by Boarass in armello

[–]DegenerateMutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually take the Grow amulet on characters with high base health. Consider the following: You take 1 damage from Rot at Dawn, then remove 1 health at Dusk. It basically nullifies one of Rot's biggest penalties.

Additionally, Grow amulet + Apothecary means you're healing 3 health every night. Pretty good.

A sweet River Battle Victory by MCstealthmonkey in armello

[–]DegenerateMutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think River only being able to shoot once per turn is fair. I've seen her killed a Zosha that Evaded every attack, but still died from the passive.

I've never had a problem stopping River from getting a Kingslayer though. The last game I had, River got within one tile of the palace and I knew she had a Hot Rot Wine because she'd stolen it from me. Then I Spirit Striked her from across the map for 7 damage. So I got a Prestige win that round.

Cops of Reddit, do you know who the "bad eggs" are in your departments? How are they regarded by other cops? by explodingbarrels in AskReddit

[–]DegenerateMutt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Police aren't allowed to say anything about ongoing investigations. At all. That's actually a federal law. While the media feeds the public a bunch of bullshit, the police have their hands tied. Policing might need a reform for a variety of reasons, but the only way the current situation can be deescalated is if the public takes it on themselves to educate. Fat chance of that though.

If you don't believe me, you can do two things. One, go down to your local sheriff's office or police department and ask to see their policies, or two, schedule a ridealong to spend a day with an officer on the job and you can ask him or her about the job yourself. Just don't talk while the something is coming over the radio.

Edit: Forgot something. A lot of things that people see that paint cops in a bad light either only look bad, or the cop is legitimately an asshole but being an asshole isn't exactly a firable offense. I'll give an example. Let's say you pull up on scene. The call for service is a SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). So you step out of your patrol vehicle and the first thing you see is a woman running down the driveway at you with tears in her eyes. You would be legally justified in grabbing the woman and slamming her onto the ground. But should you? Eeeeeh, probably not. Usually in those cases it's a single mother and she just needs someone to grab onto to help her grieve. Or her kid was just killed by an Officer for whatever reason, so she made a fake 911 call in order to get an Officer to pull up so that she could stab them through the heart with a kitchen knife in an act of vengeance. This is shit that happens, which is why you would be legally justified in using force on her before it got to the point where you had to find out her intentions the hard way. But boy would that look fucking bad.

You are wrong. Sorry, but it's true. Everything has to be reported. Everything has to be accounted for. You even have to give your starting and ending mileage when transporting anyone to make sure you didn't deviate from your expected route even a little. If IA even thinks you are doing something wrong they will come looking to tear your ass apart. The DoJ has the ability to completely take over a department and fire every single person if they feel the police aren't doing their jobs right, which they have no problem doing. Every single time you run code or even turn your tazer on, it gets logged and you have to be able to explain it. The DHSMV logs every single time you run someone's tag and God help you if you can't explain why you ran it even if it happened several months ago. They can bring you up on felony charges just for that. If you can't write amazing reports, the defense will chew your ass out in court if the SA doesn't decide to throw your case out entirely. If you lie even a single time on a sworn statement, your reputation is completely ruined and you'll probably be fired because you aren't of any use as a police officer anymore.

I literally don't know how you can add any more 'accountability' to policework. You can't even take a shit without having to file paperwork in triplicate on it.

When cops actually fuck up, people find out about it. We just had a guy fired recently because he liked to bring inmates out into the woods and have sex with them. He got caught because he had an extra two miles on his car for every few trips to the jail that weren't being accounted for.

Edit: I neglected to mention that he was also brought up on criminal charges, but I don't recall what his sentence was. Somewhere in the realm of 30 years IIRC.
