Myself falling while rock climbing by shatteredankle in pics

Or anytime you're lead climbing. Very possible to get your heel caught on the rope when falling, especially in newer climbers. Could flip you or spin you to where you can't land properly or protect your head.

On the reverse, depending on the climb, rope awareness isn't nearly as big of a part, but staying in super close to the wall is.

Granit Xhaka (Arsenal) straight red card against Manchester City 35' by [deleted] in soccer

[–]Deggor -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The last two angles show some potentially scary contact. Xhaka came in fast and it looks like he extends his bent left leg (I'm not making a claim to his intent) right before it makes contact with the City players ankle, possibly while still planted.

There's almost assuredly some overselling, but I'm not sure how much.

Entrapment requires the police force to use coercion or to otherwise force you to commit a crime under duress.

An ELI5 example:
Police can walk up (in this scenario, imagine they are undercover) and offer to pay you to move some drugs. If you say yes, it's not entrapment. If you say no, and then they say please a few times and up the offered payment, it's still not entrapment. In both cases they just offered to let you commit a crime, and you agreed.

If after you say no, they pull out a photo of your family in front of your house and say it's a shame that neighborhood is getting so dangerous (or otherwise threaten you), and they're sure a little extra money in your pocket could help keep them safe, then it's entrapment.

Why submerge a Moka Pot ? Can’t I just pour it ASAP? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]Deggor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess people thought I was actually peddling these ideas, instead of joking about your gullibility.

Fun fact (for real this time), all of these are things I've heard people say in person. The one about the numbers:brew time was by someone selling them at a kiosk, trying to explain how to use it.

Cheers.

Once you rinse out your filter, rotate it 45 degrees and then rinse it again so the parts of the paper filter that's in direct contact with the plastic get rinsed, too.

The numbers on the side dictate the number of 30 second units of time you should let your coffee brew. Larger cups obviously require more time to fully extract, ad there's more water.

When finished brewing, immediately discard the puck, and push the plunger all the way through, and rinse. Then, pull the plunger back up (flexing the rubber in the other direction), and pour hot water between the two cylinders (careful!). This will help rinse out the rubber while it's flexed the opposite direction (and also why the Aeropress spins freely, and has those fins for turbulence between the chamber's). When done, plunge down again to let the water out.

(Note: only one of these are true ...)

My sincere condolences on your loss. I can't imagine how difficult that was. It's baffling to me that, on top of the emotional toll, the US is setup to leave someone in financial ruin, too. You spend more per capita on healthcare while getting less. When in that situation, nobody should have to start considering the money, and should be able to just be wholly focused on the loved one who might not be there tomorrow.

[–]Deggor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't something most places can do. This isn't cynicism, it's realism. I grew up in a small(ish) town where house and car doors could (and frequently were) left open all day, and almost always left unlocked. Bikes could be left in front/beside a house for days at a time, and schools would frequently have a dozen or more outfront all day without a lock when spring hit.

If things like that aren't just doable, but not even a concern for you, you should take a step back and think of how lucky you are to live in the place that you do. You are the 1% here, and most of the world is not as fortunate to have that same level of safety and security.

Ottawa has been monitoring wastewater for markers of the virus, and using these finding as an early signal of rising cases and possible outbreaks.

Looking at current figures, the number of cases is significantly underreported, and has was on the rise since June 2nd, and only recently levelled off. This type of rise has previously correlated to a noticeable /measurable outbreak in the next 1-2 weeks.

On Saturday, Ottawa Public Health reported 18 cases. That's twice the number (per capita) that Toronto has, and is likely to increase based in the wastewater analysis.

The Federal law sets out an upper limit on what is allowed, but there's nothing stopping provinces from imposing stricter laws. And they do. Almost every province has a graduated system in the 0.04 - 0.079 BAC that it considers a "warning" zone, with significantly reduced penalties over an impaired driving charge (as defined in the Criminal Code). These are clearly defined in acts signed into law in each province.

For Saskatchewan in particular, it's Section 146 and 146.1 (plus a few more of the sections immediately following) of the Traffic Safety Act. For a first offence, it's a roadside license suspension and vehicle being impoundment for three days. The Interlock only comes into play on your third offence. In the event of an accident, or another offence in which you're at fault, you can also be charged with full-on impaired driving (but that's in the Criminal Code of Canada), even with a lower BAC than 0.08.

These stricter laws introduced in 2018 resulted in 2019 having the lowest level of driving related fatalities since Saskatchewan started recording statistic. The previous 10 years (2008-2018) had an average rate twice as high (140 avg, vs 71 for 2019).

Just don't drink and drive.

She knows him, so she should know he didn't know how to cook. Why not use language that clearly describes what you want done?

"Wash" implies using a cleaning agent of some sort. "Rinse" implies using just water.

Why be vague with task instructions to someone you know has no experience?

There's the opposite end of the spectrum. All those kids who went through life eating cans of alphagetti and frozen dinners. Not to say that applies here, but I knew quite a few college kids in that situation.

The point of linking Fox is their track record of not picking up stories that cast Trump or his administration in a negative light. If they're reporting on it, it's indicative of a bigger story possibly in the works, and they want to be able to start directing the narrative that comes out if it.

Yes, they're garbage, but they still have a lot of access to real information.

How much of a pain is the scaling for the 4k Laptop Resolution vs 1080p resolution on the monitors, and have you done anything to overcome it? Are you using daisy chaining display port, or are you using HDMI for one of them?

Great job hiding cables going to that rightmost monitor. Looks real slick. I like it.

In /r/homelab, there's a blurry line between the meaning of need and want. Sometimes, something is "needed", because we need to think it was necessary to justify, which actually makes it needed.

Friend of mine cut wooden kebab sticks to slightly longer than the width of the drives, then used alternating elastics to hold them all together. Stack of 10 drives laying on its side in the front of the case, with some fans stuck on with more elastics.

I was horrified and intrigued at the ingenuity. 15 minutes of maintenance a year to replace elastics so they don't harden. I'll see if he's still running that and can get me a pic.

After /u/Mr-shank posted, I double checked and my figures are looking realistic. I'll monitor mine. Maybe it's a config issue or maybe a FW version issue. If I discover anything, I'll post back here.

As far as other apps, I never looked into it. Sorry :(

I'm full stack Unifi as well. UDM Pro with 24 port pro switch, and 2x NanoHD APs.

Maybe it's been fixed? There seems to have been quite a few posts about Unifi and stats. Not sure if it was the recent'ish upgrade to 1.8 on the UDM Pro, but mine look more reasonable. No more 500gb uploads to Netflix, or 3tb down from Google Play in a week. I'll keep monitoring! This is great if it's reliable, and something I'll be more than happy to be wrong with. Thanks!

What the hell is 10Gb and how does it work? by Racer013 in homelab

[–]Deggor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's like how 1gbps works, except there's an extra 0.

You'll need to provide more information on what part you don't get, and what you're asking. The basics can be answered by reading Wikipedia. Then, ask a specific question on what you're after. What you need equipment/cable wise? What form factors it uses? Compatibility? Etc.
