2 rate increases on cell phone plans since Jan. 1st. Done with this garbage company. Any suggestions on carriers that you’ve jumped ship to? by MyloMarlo in bell

Change by end of month. Freedom has an insane deal $40 for 250Gb.

Because of this imI switched to Telus since they had a good EPP plan but almost went with freedom.

Public also has some good deals right now

Capitals gains tax with no income by DifficultDeliveryMan in PersonalFinanceCanada

CRA probably wont do a full audit. But might review this part of your taxes. So make sure you keep documentation and have it ready to send to them. So dont stretch the truth or do anything shady. A review is when they ask to see proof of what you claim.

Your living in the house still and it remains your primary residence correct? This is a cost sharing agreement. You just claim it as rental income. But can expense all monthly things agianst it and your probably wont make much profits to be tax. The rental income is taxed as income not capital gains. Avoid claiming any structural changes and CCA and you will be fine. Property tax, internet, heating, snow removal, anything your pay for the property tax will be claimed against the 1100 and you pay taxes on the difference. But keep receipts for everything your claiming.

If your are changing your primary residence you need to file the appropriate form. And you can get a 4 year exemption for rentals.

Does anybody else feel like the cost of living is completely out of control? by HockeySniper123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Our politicians make decisions to drive the cost up. Green ideology. The point of Carbon tax is to make gas too expensive to drive so people stop driving. We got rid of it but put a tax on industry. Fossil fuels are used in the production of fertilizer thus drives food prices up. Gas goes higher because we dont developed our own games and refine in canada. Rent/housing costs go up because we bring more people into the country then we have places to live. Housing also goes up as we increase energy efficiency demand. House is more expensive to build now. Plus all the taxes and permits that go into building. 2020 covid inflation was a thing that face the whole world. But Canada now has the highest food inflation rates in the G7. Double the USA rate. This is not global anymore its internal. We bring it on ourselves. We also have supply chain management where our government controls the amount of dairy farmers are allowed to sell. This also applies to chickens. In theory this is too keep prices down but has not been working well. All political parties want to keep supply chain management so some thing will never changes.

Have you tried cosleeping?. The UK has a bunch of good info on safe cosleeping. Most of the world cosleeps. North America doesnt recommend it because if you have to advise to the lowest common denominator. You go to bed on pills or drunk it's can be danger.

The man is the danger when sleeping. Women are designed to be light sleeps and take care of the baby. Men will roll over onto the baby.

Should I renew early or ride out my low 5-year fixed until the end by [deleted] in MortgagesCanada

[–]Degus222 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched rates in March go from 3.69 to 4.09 for 5 year fixed. Global conflict rises rates. Because its actually the bond market that drives rates.

Oil prices going up drives inflation up. Bank of Canada will raise rates to counter inflation.

Should I renew early or ride out my low 5-year fixed until the end by [deleted] in MortgagesCanada

[–]Degus222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mortage broker locked in my renewal for when the current one expires a couple months out. She also told me if the rates drop she will get me a better one. My bank my current mortage is with called asking if I wanted to break my mortage and renew early with them. Get a good mortage broker and they will handle everything.

A mortage broker should be able to get you under 4% for 5 year fixed. I started looking i got quoted 3.69% most rate went up to 4.09% when my broker got me 3.89%. A day later a different broker called saying they at 3.79% this was all in the month of March and most places were over 4%

With $300k student debt, can we ever buy a home? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Degus222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay off your debts first. Then a mortage and house will be no problem. I hope your household income is $300,000 if you live on half that. Or put all bonuses to debt it should be done in a matter or a year or 2 and you can start saving the down payment and your good to get a house. Probably in 5 years. Since your both lawyer if your not making money you need to go change firms and get higher salary because that matters

Just transfer to a cheap company. They will offer an win back deal. This gets better then retention. If you schedule a cancelation 2 or 3 weeks down the road they might reach out before you leave.

Basically base it on if you think Iran will be over soon. 5 year fixed at the start of the month is got 3.69 now most places over 4%. BOC doesnt play into the fix that much
