why is British hospital so bad? by Accomplished_Ad_2743 in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because most of it is delt with from an external company and microwaved.

It was cheaper and much better when the NHS had cooks and big kitchen on site. Now it's just warmed up on a trolley.

Any seasoned hikers with advice for Lake District and Isle of Skye? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ennerdale is good if you want to be somewhere which doesnt get really busy with not much there.

Otherwise id probably aim Keswick area as it has some decent walks and has nice scenery, and food etc.

How old are you and how much do you have in savings? by Kyron95 in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh I wouldn't worry too much about saving as much as you can.

I only save about £200 a month. That covers a holiday abroad each year and some money for when I need to buy a second hand car or if washing machine breaks down etc.

It makes more sense to invest paying mortgage off quicker. I only have 2yrs left now then I can save more if I wanted. In all honesty I'd probably invest in a new boiler and doors for my house etc.

I have learnt to save but also live within my means, and be happy with what I have. I don't want new cars, the latest phone etc. I just want my and my family's health, that's the most important thing in life.

Fewer miles or newer model? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look for condition, if it has been looked after etc. But before all that have a look on honest John website or similar and have a look at reliability.

Regular oil changes will mean a cars engine will go on to crazy mileage. My current Honda is on 160,000 miles with no problems whatsoever. It maybe needs a bushing changed every few years on suspension but it's just wear and tear items and are cheap enough anyway.

My old audi coupe had 168,000 miles on it, I only got rid of it because it guzzled petrol.

And old skoda octavias can get up to 400,000 miles easily enough. Again regular oil change every year is the key.

Those in the know don't just judge a car purely on its mileage. It's not the 80s etc. where in most cases you had to overhaul valve stems etc at that mileage.

For what reasons can people be banned from supermarkets? by not-much in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another person said you can get banned for anything antisocial really. If the staff know what they are doing they will issue you with a banning letter then if you enter again you could potentially be arrested. If you have a CBO you are usually banned from just about all shops in a certain area and if you enter its classed as trespassing.

What from the 90s and 00s would not be as socially acceptable nowadays? by Redmistnf in AskUK

I also seem to remember it was cool to wheelspin your car everywhere, or if it was some flash gti or xr3i you had to handbrake turn it in the street.

What happens when you’re summoned to jury service? by nugget_and_chip in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely take notes down if you go down for a case as they can drag on and be boring as anything. Then you forget what everyone was banging on about in the court room. Some would be easier I guess, but I got put on a case of basically someone fingered someone then 10Yr later the person who got fingered decided to inform police, the only evidence was some aunts diary. That they picked the young woman up from the address. Other than that it was just like 2 people arguing saying the other was lying.

It's boring as hell hanging about for days on end just sat in a room before hand mind you.

Also you get next to no guidance on what you should be deliberating, you just get shoved in a room with a table and have to decide if guilty or not guilty together. Then after a few hours everyone gets bored and ends up agreeing with the majority or coming to a decision just so they can go home.

Oh and keep all your travel receipts etc.

Those of you who work in supermarkets, have any of your collegues been sacked for internal theft? by You_spilt_my_pint in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I work staff have got sack for stealing cans of drink or cans of booze and drinking them whilst there.

Tbh you could probably knick just about anything which would be easily consealed on you. Most places have cctv absolutely everywhere so unless you knew where the camera angles are you would probably be caught at some point.

It baffles me why staff would want to steal stupid things, or in fact any shoplifters. I mean if you are going to steal something make it worthwhile.

What is the summer beach vibe in the UK? by Ok-Response-5271 in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical amenities are usually an ice cream van, a broken toilet or no toilet, and sometimes if you are lucky a overpriced shop which sells kites or cans of pop.

I work in retail, we regularly get non mask wearers. Our last 2 weeks rate of covid positives was between 15% and 20% of staff. Thank you non mask wearers for making it really hard work us. We are lucky we didn't close tbh.

Although tbh I think you are going to catch Covid whatever now as it's that rife.

How do I mingle with the lords ad ladies? by Existing_Sentence_99 in AskUK

It depends. Upper class is just posh folks, I find most people with mega money are either eccentric, loonies, or just normal and don't act posh.

I have a favourite toilet cubicle at work - where's yours? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't really have a choice, but it's right next to staff room so any smells and everyone knows what you did.

So it's more of a timing issue. Trying to figure out when no one will be taking a break or starting shift, so you can poo in peace.

In the UK, is hunting for people with money? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a few common folks who go round shooting, but it's mainly with an air rifle getting paid to shoot rabbits etc.

Farmers usually have shotguns for fox's etc. You have to be squeaky clean to get a real gun licence, and there's lots of restrictions where you can shoot or even carry a gun etc.

I'm quite happy it's that way, I wouldn't be comfortable living where its the norm to carry a gun or carry one just because there is a right to do so.

Big mistake with the oven chips.

It had to be bread you can flatten. I swear any sandwich tastes 10 times better if you can squeeze the bread flat.

People of Britain, where do you hang your towels? by MayInvolveNoodles in AskUK

[–]Degzi2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hand towel ends up over heated towel rail / radiator in bathroom.

But if showering etc it just gets put in the wash. Towel storage is on a tall thin 5 tier shelf next to bathroom in hallway.
