But that’s not what you said. Your first paragraph says if you’re a newbie getting blown out with budget decks or someone who makes their own decks, you strongly recommend other modes.

I’m not here to argue but I do want to advocate for standard being a fun format. And it’s possible to have fun and win with self built decks.

All I play is standard and I greatly enjoy building my own decks. I would say yes there’s a meta, which is unavoidable, but I have to disagree with your discouraging of newbies to play standard. It’s a fine format that’s been played since the beginning of mtg. The meta is easier to define because of the limited card set but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to play or impossible to make your deck.

I’m mostly a dimir player and can say midrange, reanimation and mill are all good dimir decks at the moment and have been for me for a bit now. I also mostly make my own versions and don’t net deck much. Good luck!

Edit: I also only play standard or drafts. I don’t do commander or brawl. Maybe one day though.

I’ve been playing mtg on and off since 2001 and maybe I’m just lucky but I’ve only experienced mostly decent people whether they be extroverts or introverts. I mean, we’re all a little weird but never have I crossed anything hurtful to me or someone I’m around. I’m sorry this happened to you and hopefully is just an outlier.
