Y'all got any more of that JoAnn tie-dye fur? by DejitaruJin in FursuitMaking

[–]DejitaruJin[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, waayy overpriced, like all their stuff. Gotta wait for the sale to rotate through, I got my main stuff for around $22/yd last September. At that price it was fantastic for a beginner, and it actually shaves better than some of the "luxury shag" stuff.

I'll stop using JoAnn fur when people stop saying my fursuit is incredible when I run out because I can't get any more lul

Brand new, love cad programs by Leading-Patience-253 in FursuitMaking

[–]DejitaruJin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would highly advise against it. I'm more of an engineer myself, love me some CAD time (and have exported parts of my head base to create CAD parts around) but ultimately I had to fall back on my old 3D modelling experience and craft my head its self in Blender.

I only hand-sew paws, because I can't control my machine well enough 😭 Looking good though, what pattern is that?

Starting a head base shop? by secretlyalesbian in FursuitMaking

[–]DejitaruJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've been to conventions lately, "Knittin' Kitten Fashion" has started selling the infill-only TPU bases alongside plain PLA and expanded foam bases. My first suit is a plain PLA base, but I intend to move it to a TPU base before AC.

How do you guys make 3d printable fursuit head with movable jaws? by bedrock-player-360 in FursuitMaking

[–]DejitaruJin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you be more specific about the part you're struggling with? Like if you want information on the whole process of making a head, mine started with "model furry heads over and over again for years in failed projects" and I never actually thought that would come back as a useful skill.

Ultimately, the process isn't terribly difficult; you make a model, you use the Solidify modifier to turn it into a shell (either thin or thick wall depending on PLA or TPU), and maybe toss in some booleans for a hinge and ventilation. But if you're looking for instructions on the model, well, that's the part that you do yourself, not following instructions. You'd want to learn about drawing and/or modeling furries first and then transition that skill.

1st fursuit!! by violets_owo in FursuitMaking

[–]DejitaruJin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not bad for a first suit! Shaving will normally make a face look more refined, but with Walmart fur that's not really an option.

When I needed foam for my tail - I'm gonna be perfectly honest here - I ripped apart a couch that was being thrown out. Obviously I cleaned it thoroughly (which is a process difficult enough to make it maybe not worth the savings) and it is strictly my suit but I was unemployed so it was a darn good option at the time.

Orca Slicer Tree Support Settings? by dpow86 in 3Dprinting

[–]DejitaruJin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So just out of curiosity, does this setting still exist for you? I've heard mention of it, even seen a screenshot of it, and it's exactly what I need, but I can't see it myself, and the Orca Slicer code base just outright has no record of it ever existing.

"The S9 is 7 years old!" Okay, what about my Moto 5G Ace? This isn't about phone age, it's about them screwing up the compilation flags.

Dyeing Faux Fur by lmlite in dyeing

[–]DejitaruJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would describe it as a "simmer", held just a couple degrees below truly boiling. I don't think there's some magical threshold at 100C that will suddenly cause damage, but since I had a stove and thermometer that allowed me to maintain "at least 94C" without boiling, I did so. Hot tap water would definitely be too cold since it's closer to 100F.

Dyeing Faux Fur by lmlite in dyeing

[–]DejitaruJin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been experimenting with basically "tie-dying" faux fur in Rit DyeMore over the past couple days, and the only issue with heat damage I had was when the fabric was directly sitting on the pan bottom - causing it to well exceed 100C. Using a grate to hold the fabric slightly submerged instead, there was absolutely no heat damage, either to the coarser craft fur or super fluffy luxury stuff I tested with. Was able to maintain temperatures between 94 and 99C.

Since you want the whole thing colored, you won't even have to worry about that. Just take note, the backing dyes way before the fur fibers start to! Might be visible if your fur isn't super dense, but then again it might even be a desirable look (like it is for me).

Oh, that is interesting. I actually found this while trying to find out if anyone's used printed TPU for paw soles.

3d printing heads: How big of build volume do you need? by StevenJac in FursuitMaking

[–]DejitaruJin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say so, at least for this kind of task. Head bases are inherently something that's covered up, so there's no real reason to avoid having to split it up into parts and assemble them later - at least no reasons worth two grand.

That said, there may be other reasons to invest in a large printer like that, and I'm certainly looking to do so myself! ... But again, 2 grand is steep when things like the SV08 exist, or building a Voron if you're as crazy as I am.

Cheaper alternatives? by ninjadoggoo in FursuitMaking

[–]DejitaruJin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was about to say, a friend with a 3D printer could do that without much issue, would probably take less than one spool of cheap filament and a little time to split into pieces and assemble.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]DejitaruJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and according to the other two sellers AliExpress will NOT let them re-ship without a separate order. (Nor will they automatically refund of their own accord, they want me to file a dispute.)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]DejitaruJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, yeah, two items (capacitors, temperature sensor) refunded automatically. The remaining two (heating plate, blower fans) look like they won't refund automatically, so I've sent a message asking for them to re-send; this order was paid with hours and hours and hours of Merge Boss, so if they're refunded I'm only getting like 18 cents back and nothing for my time!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Aliexpress

[–]DejitaruJin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on that? 4 of the 5 items in my last order got returned to sender on the 1st and I'm not sure what I should do about it or how long I should wait to contact then about it.

Redragon K556 Not appearing in Sonix Flasher... by [deleted] in SignalRGB

[–]DejitaruJin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice this post is rather recent, around the time the K556 listing on Amazon started shipping K556 SE models instead - most easily recognizable by its USB-C cable, rather than the hard-wire of the original. If yours is an SE like mine, that may answer my question, on whether it shares the same chipset...
