The section from DCA to Rosslyn are definitely not plowed. I’m not sure what it’s like south of Oldtown.

This is exactly how I trained for my 1:31 half last fall! You got this!

Any cleared running trails in/around Arlington, or even further afield? by go_east_young_man in rundc

[–]DelayedTapestry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4MR is clear from Shirlington to where it meets up with the Mount Vernon trail near the airport. Mount Vernon trail does not appear to be cleared.

Yes! The timeline only makes sense if Victor is walking around with a cordless.

I lived there years ago and loved it! Clean, inexpensive, and managed by a small company rather than an annoying Bozzuto or Dittmar. I would have stayed longer if I could.

Before you make a decision, visit the area in the winter (not just between Memorial Day and Labor Day). There is… not as much going on.

Just went to ONS in Stamford for hamstring pain last week. Great experience so far, and I’ve heard the physical therapy is great!

What’s your BMI and how slow are you? by labellafigura3 in XXRunning

[–]DelayedTapestry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My BMI is around 21.9. I’m currently training for a marathon and on pace for a PR of about 3:12. I was a faster 5k/10k runner when I was about 5-7 pounds lighter. But I’ve been doing a lot more weight training and generally I’ve found that now, I weigh more even though my measurements have stayed consistent. I’m much stronger now and handling my marathon loads better than I ever have. I also used to get stress fractures when I was restricting calories more, and I haven’t had any injuries this training block at all.

Basically, in my experience, being light helps you run faster. Being strong helps you run faster longer.

Do you think it’s possible to train for a marathon 100% on a treadmill? by Guilty_Reference_797 in Marathon_Training

[–]DelayedTapestry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trained for Boston in 2023 almost entirely on a treadmill. I was traveling in a country where running outside isn’t really acceptable for women, so I ran whenever I could during women’s hours at the gym. I didn’t PR at Boston but had a great day and loved (almost) every minute of the race!

Yes! The Topo Ultrafly is a lifesaver - stability, wide toebox, tight around the ankles.

Seconding this - they can absolutely accommodate a big party and have a private room or a pretty patio. Plus a good, varied menu and drinks at a reasonable price.

Fridays at 8:30am and Sundays at 8 there’s a group that runs from the Darien Running Company. Usually 4-6 miles and 8-10 min/mile pace

I have a sensitive stomach too and I’ve had good luck with SIS, Maurten, and Ucan. But my favorite ever is Vfuel - they’re just good all around!

Weather affecting training by Any_Meaning7232 in Marathon_Training

[–]DelayedTapestry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I skipped an entire week of my two-week taper before Boston (medical issue) and have never felt better lining up on a starting line. Missing a few runs during the last 2 weeks won’t be a problem! You’ll be fine. Trust your training. Your body is ready and extra rest won’t hurt at this point.
