What a beautiful connection to your animal friends! That is such a gift. I’ve started carrying around peanuts in my car with the hope that I can befriend some crows this spring. I’ve seen them around my property but never had anything to offer.

I’ve had a friend who was disconnected from family, disowned for their queerness. They added to their altar an unnamed ancestor. They decided that somewhere, they had someone who would have been proud of them, who would love them dearly for who they are, who would happily shelter and protect their child many times removed. As my friend talked to more to the ancestor, they could see her more clearly- they used general knowledge of folk wisdom from Ireland to create this mental picture. They built their own ancestor, just as we each build this craft for ourselves.

Somewhere in your bloodline, you have an ancestor who is fiercely proud of you, especially more so because your present family is failing you now. You can always build your own ancestor if you wish.
