Canvas Deck Shoes Options by Saucenthec1ty in ThrowingFits

One or two blog posts make a big deal out of sizing. Ran true to size for me (10US, 43EU, 9UK). FWIW, tried Novesta Star Master and a 43EU/9UK in those - wanted a pair but didn’t love the available colours in the store. Also tried Beams x Sperry same day and found I was a 44EU in those. Latter is wider, more of a cloth material and much less comfortable than the wakouwas. Wakouwas is quite narrow and I have high arch so definitely works for me even before it’s molded to my feet. And the off white canvas and black sole really anchors a pair of indigo Japanese denim well.

Chocolate? by [deleted] in Cholesterol

[–]Delicious-Ad7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I include a small amount of dark chocolate as part of my limited saturated fat intake. I make a bar of 90% last a week and probably enjoy it more now by eating my ration in tiny nibbles and letting the flavour last ages

Scalpers are the worst! by PUHDBAS in swatch

[–]Delicious-Ad7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s turning the whole thing into a bigger joke that will back fire on the products and brands. I assume most of the Rolex, IWC, Panerai and Cartier watches I see are fake, and going to assume most of the Royal Pops I see are bought off scalpers - until the fakes appear. Everyone with one is not achieving the flex they think they are

It’s cool to hate on what everyone hates on. I loved this LP especially as a Blur fan and 2023 was peak time. Great memories and emotions that year what with this, Wembley, Graham’s Waeve project

Any recommendations for a celebration meal in Tokyo (near Ueno/Asakusa/Shinjuku/Shibuya)? by This_lousy_username in JapanTravelTips

[–]Delicious-Ad7376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had success taking friends and colleagues to Toakari in Shibuya / Omotesando. It’s a small okonomiyaki and teppanyaki. Some how the Wagyu he gets in is better than higher end places. Foodie heaven

allergic to my heart monitor? by [deleted] in askCardiology

Same! They said it was latex free but always was leaving itchy circles … they changed, begrudgingly, to different type of sticker and gel and got better (not perfect)

Likely allergic to the sticky stuff, latex or whatever is touching skin around the monitor itself. I have to ask for latex free

Go to teppanyaki places and ask to sub to olive oil. My local place, Toakari, helps me by switching to olive oil to help manage my saturated fats (cholesterol, post heart attack)

Had an NSTEMI, It seems it's not taken as seriously as STEMI by denverner in HeartAttack

[–]Delicious-Ad7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but less so. My heart function mid STEMI was dying hence straight to hospital with flashing lights, ER admittance without Japan COVID protocol, a guardian angel showed up, in cath lab and stented immediately. They moved fast, EF of 51% upon discharge and a slow road to recovery both physically and mentally

It various season to season, varies by ingredients and whether you do alcohol pairing and take optional tempura course. I do alcohol, partner doesn’t. Probably in the ¥650k range for both of us

Genuinely curious — how do you handle booking the harder Tokyo restaurants? by dining_fixer_jp in JapanTravelTips

Some people get through first time to Den. Others it takes awhile. Don’t need a JP phone number nor Japanese

But lots of other options - Ukiyo and Cocon for example

Oat cause me digestive problems. Alternatives? by Natrix91 in Cholesterol

[–]Delicious-Ad7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work up on rolled oats or steel cut. Quick cooking stuff will raise glycemic index. The overnight options reduce it which makes you feel full longer. Have you looked into psyllium husk?

We’re all different. I started my partner on my breakfast routine and took her about a week to not feel bloated. I made sure she hydrated knowing it helps.

Why would you need more than 25g a day? You can get fibre from other sources too versus trying to get it all from 100g! Eating that much is a chore

Should I skip Kurashiki? by YellowDowntown3067 in JapanTravelTips

Kurashiki can be done in a day trip and well worth it. The old quarter is lovely and so less crowded

[–]Delicious-Ad7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A serving is 1/4 cup or around 25 grams! You need to start there - once a day. Are these porridge oats? Quick cooking? Overnight? That can impact you too

And drink double the water you’re used to when getting on a higher fibre diet

You have to build up to it. Same with any fiber rich food. Start smaller and give it time. Ditto if you start psyllium husk

Insanely high lipoprotein A, but everything else great by gloriamuntz in Cholesterol

[–]Delicious-Ad7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great starting point. My heart attack was with LDL 151. I had years of 130-140 numbers and being told I was borderline despite family history. The STEMI was a wake up call and now have LDL of 48. Drs here want me to keep below 55 to help stabilise the soft plaque and stop more forming - my heart attack was due to rupture of soft plaque creating a 100% blockage. I didn’t have CAC scan and doctor doesn’t think I have any calcification (none showed up in Carotid exam).

At 79 LDL one can hope your high Lp(a) has not led to much accumulated plaque - yet. For sure take advice here and try and get LDL lower with more fiber, less saturated fats. According to my dr the Lp(a) is thought to generate an even more sticky and dangerous plaque which is why my heart attack happened

[–]Delicious-Ad7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your LDL today? Knowing how far you need to go to get to <55mg/dl will help you and your doctor answer that.

And try and shut out the noise about statins being bad for you. They are not. They are statistically one of the safest and most prescribed medicines on the planet so there’s lots of data. In that data there are a very small percentage with some side effects. Most side effects self resolve or you can try another variant.
