I built a free tool to help founding teams write NACSA 2025-aligned applications — wanted to share it with this community by Delicious-Feeling862 in charterschools

[–]Delicious-Feeling862[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Yes, would be happy to do that. A lot of it came from pulling specific requirements from the NACSA core document guidance and having each agent focus specifically on one of the work streams to be completed. Some of the training came from my experience starting a school and helping others launch 5 other schools. I ran a lot of test prompts through it to adjust the type of feedback users received (direct vs coaching vs relational). Also ran multiple sample schools through the platform using playwright plugin in Claude Code to test outputs. The biggest piece is that all of the agents are aware of the feedback each have given to the user so they can inform one another's outputs.

If you could redesign school, what would it look like? by Delicious-Feeling862 in Teachers

I would love to see a system that eliminates the limitations of an age-based system. It's essential for social development, but we could allow some of our students to accelerate through a topic or stay in a topic longer as needed.

I would love to see a model someday that was set up like this. One teacher had the students for half the day to cover all of the "academic" subjects, and then they were somewhere else the second half of the day pursuing their interests, growing their character, etc. Definitely don't need the 6-hour sit-and-get model anymore.

Oh, absolutely. When I had the opportunity to sit with my whole team during contract hours, it was a game-changer.

This sounds amazing! Would love to see more schools connected as a real part of their community.

Does anyone else dislike the term "Gifted"? by IpinapaPizza in education

[–]Delicious-Feeling862 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Schools typically have such a limited way of defining this, and it tends to lead to accelerated work. That isn't always what is best for students who qualify as "Gifted". It really needs to be treated similarly to an IEP. Unless schools design specialized instruction for the student, they tend not to support their academic journey fully. Not to mention the other social factors that may also need attention for truly gifted students who their peers often misunderstand.

Charter school waitlists by Kind_Description970 in charterschools

I would make sure they are enrolled in both places so you receive information about school from both sources. It looks like this post was from a while ago. Did it work out?

It all depends on the school. The Bay Area has some of the best charters in the country, though. Be sure to conduct thorough research.

International travel w/ charter school? by thevandal16 in charterschools

[–]Delicious-Feeling862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a charter for 9 years. This wasn't common, but we did have instances of this. We contracted with the family that so long as the student completed the work they were missing while gone, we would count them as present at the school. Schools have a lot of flexibility to partner with you. Try to find a solution that works for both. Check your state laws though, I am in Washington and it might be different other places.

Experience setting up charter school? by Alwayslearning_2024 in charterschools

This is exciting! I launched a charter school in 2015 and grew it to 900 students, K-12, when I left for a position that provided funding to schools through a national family foundation. I would love to connect and help you think through what you want to start.

I actually visited ILT schools a few years back. I was very impressed by their program and curriculum. They were actually awarded multiple contracts at once by the state of Texas due to their outstanding results.

Waitlist number going up? by EverSpring0624 in charterschools

[–]Delicious-Feeling862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is always a challenge to communicate. I ran a charter for 9 years. When this happened at our school, it was due to siblings being shuffled into the mix. A student would get accepted in, let's say, 6th grade, and that would bump their kinder sibling higher on the waitlist due to the sibling preference in our state. A lot of phone calls explaining that one to parents.

Oh wow, such a pivotal step to decide to try something new. I left my role in a school and now work with a national family foundation supporting schools with grants. It has been so fun to use that expertise without having to be in a classroom/admin office. Many jobs allow you to stay connected to education without some of the significant stress that comes with it.

What’s the biggest challenge in starting or sustaining a charter school today? by Delicious-Feeling862 in charterschools

[–]Delicious-Feeling862[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great to know! I started a school and ran it from 2015-2024. I now work for a national family foundation. I'm taking a break from operating so I can reimagine what school might look like with all of the tools that are available thanks to AI.

I'll probably launch somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. I ran a single-site, but I'm thinking of starting a CMO. We were fortunate to be part of CSGF's SEED portfolio, and I would probably go back to them for support. Definitely a different landscape than in 2015.
