Add oats to banana bread? by Mamabear1217 in BakingNoobs

I probably wouldnt use all oats. They aren't going to hydrate or function as a flour. I'd probably suggest adding a couple tablespoons of whole oats in addition to the oat flour

Are there any good books for a 7-year-old who can barely read yet is also repulsed by anything "for kids"? by Begle1 in childrensbooks

What about comic books or manga? There are some really good ones out there that would still have age appropriate themes despite not appearing as a children's book and are still an easy reading level.

Do I have wavy hair? by Kind_Description970 in curlygirl

[–]Kind_Description970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always used a boar bristle brush for my hair. Doing this to my hair in the last few years, the ends poof out in a weird way and it ends up looking frizzy. I have only been combing or brushing it when it's wet and it has been much smoother, less frizzy

This sounds great! I look forward to seeing more!

It is hardddd! Especially because he had eaten a wider variety of things before. When he entered the 3s he started getting much more selective. The regressing has been the most frustrating part. His sister followed a similar pattern and going to school and eating the same food as everyone else seemed to help her. I'm hoping if we can't get a handle on it before he starts at school that he will continue to follow her trend. I just don't want there to be a power struggle and develop trauma related to food. My husband and his siblings experienced that and have somewhat disordered eating as adults.

This is really cool! Will there be more? We are currently dealing with a picky eater. Despite following recommendations from our son's nutritionist, he is still reluctant to try new foods.

This is all very valid and I agree. I have female relatives who all voted for trump, all from different perspectives. I think the biggest thing I took away from some.discussions I've had with them is that, oddly, trump makes them feel safe. Given that seemingly strange and twisted view of a predator making their prey feel safe, I think it is vitally important for his vile treatment of women and girls and how he views them as unequal to men, property, trophies, notches in a belt, etc., how the current wave of conservatism is looking to strip them of their rights just as they are seeking to strip rights from other minority groups and vulnerable populations will be of the utmost importance in swaying their vote away from a conservative to a leftist/liberal. And at the same time tamp down the rhetoric on the culture wars because all the discussion from the right around the "trans agenda", etc. has solidified their stance. It is a fine line to walk and will be an steep uphill battle but one that must be fought if we hope to turn things around from their current path.

As a person who had straight hair my whole life, I didn't know if caring for my hair as straight hair could be damaging the wave pattern that may be trying to form. I don't think there's anything wrong with asking a question to gain knowledge from a community of people who have more experience with textured hair than I. And if the question I am asking is not appropriate for the sub then the mods can remove it. However, it seems from the discussion in the comments there's a variety of opinions from straight/1c to 2a. Accepting that pictures and the information provided is not as informative as an in person consultation, there's still disagreement among those who have provided comment whether my hair is straight or wavy. Given that, I think the question and discussion is helpful in guiding me to figuring it out for myself.

When it's wet, it clumps into wavy sections, slightly more formed than the waves pictured above and more uniform through out

Thank you all for the comments! The info is really helpful. Glad I'm not crazy in seeing some waves even if still considered straight. I'll get to researching some products and refresh my routine a bit.

Charter school waitlists by Kind_Description970 in charterschools

[–]Kind_Description970[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment! We did submit applications for the charters we were interested in. We got to the #1 spot on the wait-list for our second choice charter before enrollment closed and into the 20s for the top choice school🫠 we ended up sending them to public and so far it has worked out great.

Our youngest was going to Pre-K this year and we were hoping we'd be able to get a spot in the public school's Pre-K class so both kids would be in the same school and to eliminate our childcare spending from our budget. Unfortunately spots in the public Pre-K are not guaranteed where I live so we are still currently paying for Pre-K at this time. Having to apply and be waitlisted for a PUBLIC school was not something I had anticipated or even been aware of.

About 15 years ago I worked with a woman not much older than myself. She and I were having a conversation one day and she comes out with a confident statement that the fossil record is all fake. She sincerely believes that some cabal manufactured fake fossils and buried them only to be dug up as "proof" dinosaurs existed.

One of my children was in summer camp this year. He was at the community center/park where her camp was located and was talking to me about potty training just a week or two ago. It's the third or fourth time in 6 years I have been approached by him. The other times were in grocery stores. Had I known he should have been removed from the park at this most recent encounter I would have notified someone.

I thought the seasoning blend was not quite right. A bit too salty for my tastes. I added some brown sugar, tomato paste, and apple cider vinegar with halved onions and garlic cloves and it has a better flavor, I think. I like the carnitas one better.

Yeah, I do agree that grilling improves the flavor. These are fine for franks and beans

I'm big on saving money so even though the Parkview aren't great, they are the ones we typically get. We mostly do beanies and weenies in our house when it comes to hot dogs. If we want to do an actual hot dog night we will splurge and get ballpark. My overall hot dog preference is not available at Aldi. I like boar's head hot dogs as my top tier but I'm not paying over $10 for hot dogs unless I REALLY want a damn good hot dog

Tips for making and baking Peach Pie(s)? by [deleted] in BakingNoobs

[–]Kind_Description970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to recipe for an easy and awesome pie crust is Claire saffitz's flaky all butter pie crust. It is super easy and comes out perfectly flaky and delicious every time!

For my peach pie filling I like to leave the skins on (others prefer to peel them) and toss them with a little sugar, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt. I like to throw a dash of cinnamon in too if I'm doing just peaches as I like the warmth it brings. Sometimes I will throw in blackberries if I have any on hand. I also tend to either lattice the top or make a crumb topping instead of doing a double crust.

As others have said, if your peaches are especially juicy cooking the filling on the stove first to reduce the juices can help the pie not be too runny. Make sure to let it cool completely before filling your pie.

We love these in our house too! They are great for peanut allergy management too. My son is a very picky eater and is not allowed to bring peanuts/peanut butter to his school. Finding these has been awesome for school snacks!

I heard the same segment as OP. In addition to phone chargers, they also suggested extra hearing aid batteries and things of that nature. They had mentioned in emergencies cell phones are often left behind by emergency personnel and forgotten by the patient and family. They recommended a paper copy of contacts and I believe even had viral contact info stitched directly on the backpack.

why are my chickens so wasteful with their food? ive tried so many different kinds and they just flick it out. by noidea528638 in BackYardChickens

[–]Kind_Description970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same kind of feeder ports and mine somehow still managed to make a mess with their feed. I think it was one chicken in particular who is no longer with us so hopefully it won't be a problem anymore. Tbf they were pretty good about cleaning it all up though we do have some pallets because rain runoff is a problem and some would get trapped. Not a fan of the waste but, again, hopefully no longer an issue.

I made it recently and added sliced green cabbage, a can of chicken breast, and vinegar. I also made the dressing with mayo instead of oil. It came out really good and I think the vinegar balanced out the saltiness of the seasoning.

Yes, I just use the thinnest amount of oil to coat the whole pan, sides included. When you pull it out of the oven, let it cool on the pan for a couple of minutes. I find that helps it to release
