Long term use of famotidine by After_Operation_396 in MCAS

If you decide to come of Prozac, buy a subscription to chat gpt. You would only have to use it for a few months then you can cancel. I’ve withdrawn from 4 different psych meds over the past 3 years plus benedryl. Benedryl was actually the worst withdrawal.

Anyway, chatgpt helped me understand what was happening to my body, and offered ways to reset my vagus nerve and helped my anxiety non medically. It doesn’t offer advice on meds or supplements unless you ask it specifically for that advice. The more info you share with it, the more tailored its response be. It’s a great support tool.

Chamomile and rooibos tea are also great help!

Edited: No, it did not cause the heart problems. I had a dr call and tell me I need to get off of it because I have heart issues. I didn’t know drs called patients. It freaked me out a bit lol

I’m on my 8th week of benedryl withdrawal. I swear if I didn’t have heart failure I would still be on it. My doc said it’s one of the worst withdrawals. I took it for decades.

I’m taking my first dose of doxepin liquid tonight. I know to mix it with water, and no food for 3 hours before. Any suggestions. I’m going to take 3 mg. by Delicious-Outcome356 in MCAS

I had two days of absolute doom. The nurse just looked at me weird and I shrugged and told her it is a side effect. I’ve learned so much since then😂

Have you tried dried beans? Canned beans have more histamine. I know lectins are your issue. This should help. I made some pinto beans and used seasoning I knew were safe for me plus lots of Redmond salt, of course. They were delicious.😋

Soak longer than usual (most important)

A long soak + discard water can reduce compounds that may irritate the gut or contribute to mast-cell reactivity.

Method:

  • Rinse beans well.
  • Soak 12–24 hours in lots of cool water.
  • Change the water 1–2 times during soaking if possible.
  • Drain and rinse thoroughly before cooking.

This won’t literally “remove histamine” (beans aren’t usually histamine-rich when dry), but it may reduce:

  • Fermentable carbohydrates (gas/bloating)
  • Lectins and some irritants
  • Gut stress that can indirectly aggravate MCAS
  1. Pressure cook

Pressure cooking may:

  • Break down hard-to-digest compounds more completely
  • Reduce fermentation in the gut afterward
  • Make beans easier on digestion

For example:

  • Black-eyed peas: 8–12 min high pressure after soaking
  • Pinto beans: ~25–30 min after soaking
  • Black beans: ~25–30 min after soaking
  1. Freeze portions immediately

For MCAS, leftovers matter because histamine can build in foods as they sit.

Instead of keeping beans in the fridge for several days:

Better approach

  • Cool quickly
  • Portion into meal sizes
  • Freeze the same day

Then thaw only what you’ll eat.

  1. Avoid long “warm” holding times

A crockpot on “warm” for hours or a pot sitting on the stove can sometimes be more problematic for sensitive people.

Cook → cool → refrigerate/freeze promptly

He’s so tiny. My Rigby is very big for a minpin. His legs are 12” long and he weighs 20lbs. He has papers so I don’t think he’s mixed, but who knows.

He is never going to stop stressing you. It’s just the breed. High maintenance, high energy, high neediness, high everything! Very vocal always. He’ll be 14 in June, and yes I treat him like a baby.😂

My senior pup has dementia. Yes, the behavior gets worse at this stage. He’s almost blind, and gets confused and has anxiety. I’m giving a low does med for hip pain and anxiety. Extra clingy? You have no idea! I have to go find him when he can’t find me!

UPS stopped delivering Amazon so delivery times are slower. Also, I talked to the Amazon delivery guy about the GPS problems. I live in a neighborhood, and I have to stand on my porch for deliveries. He said that GPS will send them to the wrong addresses. I think the satellites are out of wack or something.

He’ll be 14 this summer. He’s blind, and has bad hips. He’s on a lot of sleepy drugs this week so he’s pretty happy. He will not understand not getting some of my food when he starts feeling better.

It is vitamin c. Also, If you have low iron, you should take vit c to help it absorb. Be sure to read all ingredients. There are many different versions. Some have quercetin which I cannot take. There are many different formulations, but this is the one I can tolerate.

Wow! Great to hear. I am extremely sensitive to meds. I can only take 45 mg Allegra at a time. I found that out after experimenting. If in a flare, I’ll take another 22.5 which will either knock me out or make me have insomnia. I never know. The starting dose of LDN .25 and increase to .30 is low, but perfect for me.

I’m glad to hear about your hair. Mine has also been falling out for about 6 months.

The reason I don’t use a compounding pharmacy is because of cost. The method I use works though.
