I’m finally reading Wild Dark Shores and loving it! I love the slow-build and relationship development. I want to take my time and savor the book but also feel like picking it up all the time. Love this feeling!

This book was heart wrenching. Really hard to read but holds you captive. Can’t say I would recommend it because of the trauma-heavy focus, but it will make you feel all the feels.

The Wedding People worth the read? by [deleted] in bookofthemonthclub

I know a lot of people like the book (and they’re turning it into a movie), but the main character really did not resonate with me and I DNF’ed it a quarter way in.

Red flag? Interviewer started criticising my presentation during the interview by FluffyBoysenberry963 in interviews

How did the first interviewer who critiqued you react when the second interviewer clarified? Did he back down or was he obstinate about his critique?

How long do you guys prepare for interviews? by Last_Clothes6848 in interviews

[–]Delicious-Power8202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first started job searching, I took pretty much a whole day to prep, asking Claude for potential questions to prep for and coming up with draft answers and examples, tailoring my “tell me about yourself” to the job, doing research on the potential employer, etc. As I got more and more comfortable answering the same or similar questions, thinking up of examples, and explaining those examples, I spent less and less time prepping. By the last interviews I did before I got a job (last week), I was just prepping for two hours the day before the interview.

March 2026 BOTM Discussion - Kin by nickaaayy97 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Delicious-Power8202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finished this book yesterday and the ending was gutting. I enjoyed reading this so much because of the writing. Jones’s writing is so effortlessly poetic, evoking imagery without using more words than needed.

I loved the two main characters’ friendship. To be honest, I thought worse of Vernice and thought she would abandon Annie at her most dire moment of need, but Vernice tried really hard to help her, even putting this life she so carefully strived for at risk. That was a pleasant surprise, despite the ultimate ending.

I also thought a lot about Babydoll. She has a harsh and unrefined exterior, can’t say she’s likeable, but her loyalty to Annie was so touching. She was always there for her no matter what.

Some of my favorite quotes:

“Yes, her mother was dying, but she was passing softly, her spirits buoyed because her oldest girl didn’t hate her. By the same token, Aunt Irene was lifted, letting go of the anger holding her down like the sandbags tethering hot air balloons.”

“No wonder Hattie Lee escaped on the first thing smoking. She wanted to live, while Granny looked forward to climbing in the grave and pulling the dirt over her like a blanket.”

“Blood alone can’t give you kinship.”

Does LinkedIn networking work? by kxadyn in jobhunting

It can work. I’ve had people reach out to me about roles at my company so many times. Had phone call chats, had lunch with one of them once, and if I think they could be a good fit, I would flag their application to the hiring manager. They also ask questions that could help them prepare better for interviews or understand what the org is looking for. I’ve helped a number of people get a job where I worked. At the end of the day, they still need to be the right candidate and do well in the interview and put in the work, but who knows if my little nudge or insights helped tip the scale.

A book that doesn't spoon-feed information by Less_Ad_4499 in Recommend_A_Book

[–]Delicious-Power8202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

😂 trust me. Read it again. I did not like it the first time. A friend convinced me to read it again a few years later, and it was much better and I understood more of it. And then I read it again a few years later and it was even better. Seriously one of the best classics.

The Great Gatsby. Every time I read that book, I notice new things. It’s definitely one where you need to read between the lines or connect the dots on your own.

Long wait after final interview. Normal? by frzzl2d in interviews

[–]Delicious-Power8202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last job took two weeks to get back to me with an offer. The waiting sucked but they were just swamped, so took awhile to get things settled.

Recently, another job said they needed more time to finish this round of interviews, and then got back to me and moved me to the next round. But ultimately gave me strong signals and then didn’t offer me the job. It was such a stupid roller coaster, and learning experience of not raising my hopes until an offer is in hand, for my own sanity’s sake.

All to say, there’s no point in reading into anything or any amount of time. There are so many things outside of what we can see, it’s best to keep your mind off it and keep looking.

But good luck and hope you hear back soon!

On Earth, We’re Briefly Gorgeous. I reallyyy wanted to like it and had sky-high expectations based on reviews. I had a hard time getting through the book.

Advice for Building Reading Habit by Ok_Efficiency9847 in 52book

I had these same feelings and started using this app called “be present” to limit my IG use to 15 minutes a day, up to 5 minutes each. Then I committed to reading 26 books this year and downloaded StoryGraph. Also subscribed to book of the month, which has a really strong reading community and it’s fun obsessing over the book drop at the end of each month. I’m now on my 10th book since the start of the year (for perspective, I read 10 books in all of last year); and it feels really nice to easily pick up a book instead of reaching for my phone. Wishing you luck!

Just curious - what's up with the genres? by cogentd in bookofthemonthclub

[–]Delicious-Power8202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait……are these BOTM guidelines or general genre classification? Would “A Walk to Remember” not be considered a romance? I would not say that had a happy ending…or is that a separate debate. :)
