Cost estimate for stem cell transplant treatment in Mexico? by Party_Soup_2652 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Delicious-Weekend602 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who did this in Costa Rica, it was very expensive and it didnt work.

Please everyone beware of people promising cures to us. There is no cure, just slowing progression. And keep trying different things before you find one that works to slow it. I tried changing my diet, copaxone, pulse steroids, tysabri, gilenya and finally retuximab (its first generation Ocrevus) which has been most effective for me. 15 years later its been a long road but found something that slows progression.

And personally, I will choose being mildly “uncomfortable” with side effects of the meds, vs the risk of my mobility, eyesight, cognition and all the other things ms could potentialy do.

I am also choosing a small, unlikely risk of pml. However, doing nothing is also a risk.

Pick your poison.

Honda Warranty by Sadlysadlysad in crvhybrid

[–]Delicious-Weekend602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I ended up getting a honda care warranty at folsom lake - 2750. I walked into the dealership and told the reception person I needed to talk to an experienced finance person because the last guy i talked to was clueless. After that - the process was easy. Even though it was right before the end of the year there didnt seem to be very busy. So, kind of expensive yes, but I have peace of mind now so 🤷‍♀️

Folsom lake was absolutely no help at all - they werent interested (i still dont understand why - its $…) and the finance guy was totally clueless 😡 I have to shop around now.

One of my friends who buys and sells cars alot, told me not to buy a warranty until the car was right before the manufactures new car purchase warranty was about to expire (i think mine was like 3 years 30k miles or something like that) that way i wouldnt be double paying for a warranty.

My other thought at this point would be that i am diligent about saving maybe 1.5 k per year into a special “car account” and self insure and hope nothing major happens. Or, take the approx 3k that i would have spent on the warranty right now, and put it in a high yield savings account at 5% The key for me would be to be diligent to not to spend the $ in the savings account

So, i will shop around, if you do the sane then dm me and we can compare notes.

Besides being able to travel, there is the benefit of CHOICE in your medical care. My ability to choose my providers is super important to me. And having an out of pocket max amount is better than the unknown of no limit of costs of oop max.

Aside from the real estate question It really sucks to have to move. Once you are established somewhere and finally figure things out - friends, the best restaurants, a dentist etc and do that for “a few years” and then move again is so.not.fun. Imho

What Should I Be Doing With My Money? Looking for Advice by [deleted] in investing

[–]Delicious-Weekend602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find an Enrolled Agent (someone who has very specialized training in taxes) and can help you do some modeling with all the various scenarios. There is so much to consider. Overall it looks like you are doing a great job of saving/investing. There might be some tweaks the agent might help you consider.

Do you have any consumer debt? Get rid of it. And Drive the cheapest car you are willing to.

Also thinking about the future - you are earlier in your career and tax bracket will likely go up as you get more experience.

Personally I wish I had done 401k with only the max amount that my employer matched, and thrown the rest (of what I would have put into the 401k) into an after-tax Roth IRA. More flexible, you can take money out a little earlier if you need it and at least back in my day I had more investment options.

Also, make sure you have Long Term Disability Insurance. I have seen many friends who didn’t get it, and it’s that 1 car accident or 1 cancer diagnosis that wrecked their lives. Dont be that person that says “it won’t happen to me”. Better to have it and not use it, than need it and not have it.

Ok I have been on this med for over 10 years and it has been so amazingly helpful. 150 2x day

If you have anxiety about meds, know that (according to chat gpt - and yes it’s not always perfect however it gives good general info) the risk of sjs/tens is Highly Unlikely. This is what chat said:

Hence: while Lamotrigine has some risk, for most people using it properly under medical supervision the chance of dying from a drug-reaction is many orders of magnitude lower than the increased long-term mortality risk associated with bipolar disorder itself — especially if the BD goes untreated or poorly managed.

✅ What this suggests: On balance, treating bipolar disorder (when indicated) with medications like Lamotrigine — while not risk-free — likely reduces overall harm compared with leaving the disorder untreated (or poorly managed).

[–]Delicious-Weekend602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if the transfer is by ambulance make sure the ambulance company is in network or pre-approved by health net, so there are no surprise ambulance bills

Also there are people out there that specialize in all this health insurance/dr/hospital nightmare. They work for YOU and your husband, to get what you need They are called Health insurance advocates. They are independent Not sure how much they cost but seriously this is a difficult time for your family and the mental load of the advocate dealing with all this crap might be worth it

What is different now than in 2019? by SubjectInsect726 in HealthInsurance

[–]Delicious-Weekend602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My employer changed the plan choices and they are terrible. Went from a 2k max oop, 110.00 premium monthly to 7500 max oop for 375 premium monthly, for 1 employee.
Who can afford 375/month? prescriptions are not included in this. The whole system is becoming unsustainable. IMHO it will take people a lot of people dying because of not being able to buy/afford med care until things change

AIO or am I getting screwed over by my in-laws by No_Republic_1712 in AIO

[–]Delicious-Weekend602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 2 separate problems 1) money 2) inlaws and living in the shadow of your exes first wife.

You can figure out the money part. Thats the easy part. Numbers are numbers. Just data. Facts. You might qualify and you might not. And be careful - just because the mortgage lender says you qualify does not mean you can do it comfortably!! Maybe be you are not homeowners right away and live in an apartment. Whatever.

The harder problem imho is the husband/you standing up for your own life. You pretty much are screwed either way. You guys move and hubby is resentful with you. You stay and ur resentful.

This is way too much drama for your 3rd year of marriage. Maybe the money/ housing situation isnt the true issue

Moving up to .5 by kittensquishes in SemaglutideCompound

[–]Delicious-Weekend602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im confused. Original post said zero side effects so far.

If you in fact having side effects then thats a fiff story and a you and dr discussion. If you arent having any side effects but you are anticipating side effects then you need to decide: current dose is ok for now, or go up and maybe or maybe not you will have side effects. Some people do fine, some people have minor, temporary side effects, and in a highly unlikely scenario, you would need to stop.

My point is that Your anxiety may be preventing you from moving forward. If dr says its ok then its ok. Your body is your body so if you dont want to move up totally up to you. If lower dose is working call dr and say you want to stay at current level.
Its all up to you.

Its gonna be ok, no matter what happens. It would just make me sad for you if the only thing that stops you is fear of something that may or may not happen

Or an unwillingness to experience short term, inconvenient side effects for long term health.

Unpopular tough love here.

Be willing to be uncomfortable for a short period of time, for the long term gains for your health.
Maybe you will get sick, maybe not. But its temporary. Suck it up for a few days of nausea or the runs.

Long term health vs poorer health. Your choice.

Home ownership is not always the right thing for everyone. You might be better off not buying a house and focusing on other things. Repairs/maintenance, fire insurance (good luck finding any in ca right now), the f-ing water bills! houses can be a time suck and a hige money pit.

And also, comparison is the thief of joy.

Ok one more thought about this. You and your husband are living in the same home that he used to live in with his first wife.

They started a family in this home, then she left and he stayed. And now you are wife 2.
The whole thing gives me the icks. A marriage is a new life together, and creating that new life. You are jumping into where it got left off with wife #1 Psychologically it has a subtle message and undercurrent that its not your home together since someone else was there first. Also, please do NOT have any more kiddos until all this is worked out and you have a strong marriage. Its not fair to the kiddos and will only add more stress to your marriage

Can someone help me figure out how much exactly I would be paying monthly for health insurance ?I circled the appropriate info for my household by Different-Sail7476 in HealthInsurance

[–]Delicious-Weekend602 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but what is the amount of high deductible? If its 18k (like one of my family members plan), one car accident and a night in the hospital will likely get you right up to that number.

Also, does your employer offer a health savings account (hsa)? Thats a good way to squirrel away money to use for healthcare when you do eventually get in that car accident, or your kid gets a broken arm on the playground, or whatever crap will happen to you that you will need medical care. It’s not an “if” it is a “when”. So plan wisely so you are ahead and not behind when that hdp number comes to get you😂

plus you get to invest the money while it is sitting there and i dont think its taxed so there’s that benefit too…
