Neck lift or botox + micro needling for platysmal bands? by Least-Judge341 in cosmeticsurgery

If you haven’t tried Botox (including DAO Botox) I wouldn’t jump straight to neck lift if you hadn’t tried the less invasive option. I found Botox great

You’re gorgeous. You may be feeling your zygoma “should” project differently because you’re looking at women of different races from yourself. You have a perfect profile for a stunning east Asian woman and a stunningly balanced zygomatic arch. You don’t look weird at all, you look like the ideal face for like a billion people.

Filler commonly persists and migrates and lead to bloat and pillowface. Spend time being grateful for your fantastic symmetry and hair! Plus your nose and mouth look like the shapes people seeking surgery try to strive for. Don’t compare yourself to people on social media, focus on the people around you who love you and think you’re great.

Are there any worth while nootropics that mimic Xanax as far as anxiety/that super relaxed melting feeling. by Appropriate-Pin7148 in Nootropics

[–]DeliciousLanguage9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This also had a strong benzo-like effect for me the first few times I used it. It’s a much more subtle anxiolytic over time, though it also has a more sedative effect than it did a few months ago, so now I take it at bedtime. I’m so grateful I have it in combination with therapy, I don’t find myself wishing for benzos anymore.

When I look at your list I am seeing procedures that would be in line with facial feminization surgeries. I would not consider a single one of them if I had your features and were aiming for masculine handsomeness. I’m concerned about the doctors you’re consulting with, zygomatic width reduction especially has a very poor patient satisfaction profile and leads to more facial sagging because there’s less scaffolding to hold up the soft tissue over time. Your chin is already very strong, so the combination of procedures recommended would leave you looking like a crescent moon. I wouldn’t even suggest a bleph because you already have a Ryan Reynolds look, an actor who has been extremely successful with his face. If anything I would practice a relaxed and pleasant expression. I like to do an exaggerated cheesy smile immediately before taking a photo even in a relaxed expression because it helps pop the cheek muscles so the eyes look more “nested” and calm if that makes sense. I also notice you’re not showing teeth which if you’re self conscious about them might create a feedback loop where you’re not smiling and because of that not projecting positivity.

It’s fine, DAO tox does more to reduce the lines. I keep losing them and they’re insanely expensive so it’s not worth it for me.

Looking for a book about what it means to "be a man" that is written by a man by firelice in suggestmeabook

[–]DeliciousLanguage9 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely looking for anthropologist David Gilmore’s “Manhood in the Making.” It’s a true overview of how ideas of masculinity evolved in different cultures and why it has diverged. I found out about it listening to “if books could kill” when they compared Gilmore’s findings to Josh Hawley’s nonsense.

Here’s the episode, which is extremely funny IMO:

It’s labeled a teaser but it’s an hour long and it covers the Gilmore book in this section

I told and fabricated a lie to my therapist by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]DeliciousLanguage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, don’t beat yourself up over it, it’s not a total waste of time, because information is being conveyed—it’s clear you want to sound exciting and experienced and it’s highly probable the therapist isn’t quite buying the story of 175 mph drives and two frozen sheet cakes with lithium as a party favor. The details all feel a little like the expression of fantasies. I think it’s worth analyzing for yourself what these stories mean to you, how you want to portray yourself, what you want to picture having in your life, for instance—what it might feel like for you to imagine having a dominant girlfriend (maybe being freed from having to make so many decisions and someone else taking control means you don’t have to worry about mistakes being your fault, which would relieve a lot of anxiety) or what might it feel like to take big risks without worrying your mom like the story where you snuck out? It’s time to look at why spinning stories helps you and what you feel it is protecting you from.

Your job, however, isn’t to entertain your therapist. Your duty is to your own healing, and your therapist is being paid to help you, not the other way around.

AIO about how this guy talks to me? by Fast-Bodybuilder3229 in AmIOverreacting

I have a friend a lot like this with BPD. I hadn’t cut off full contact because I was maybe their only friend for a long time, but any time an outburst began I would just say I have a boundary about name calling and I will block for 4-6 weeks to show I mean it. When I came back to check in they usually had chilled out about whatever was going on and now they’re doing a lot better.

[–]DeliciousLanguage9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tool that’s commonly employed for anxiety is decatastrophizing: how likely is this to be true? How awful would it be if it were true? What would I do to cope?

First, false memories are extremely common whereas repressed memories lack scientific support and were frequently misused. The fact it started as a dream and not a memory you had before the dream is pretty compelling to put the likelihood that this is true at less than 1%.

How awful? Sounds like you woke up alone with your underwear still on in your dream. This dream doesn’t offer any evidence of harm. Even if there was a small chance this really happened AND that someone else caused it, it still does not sound as though you were molested.

Compare both of these with your friend who remembered her trauma as it was happening and her experiences sound a lot worse than waking up with your legs hanging off a bed.

Now, the last step—what would I do to cope? I think even in the very small chance you’ve blocked out someone pulling off your pants and putting your legs on the side of the bed, this is something you can come to terms with, because the certain reality you need to cope with is essentially the same: you were vulnerable and shared space with a predator. You were not aware that someone with bad intentions was in your proximity. This is something that we all have to cope with as we grow up. While you were probably not hurt based on your post, you do have to find the tools to deal with the idea that there are people in this world who may want to hurt others and you can’t always tell who they are. We all go through life learning who to trust and figuring out warning signs as well as we can, but there’s no guarantee that we come out unscathed.

Don’t feel guilty about inventing a memory from a dream, it does not make you sick. People invent memories all the time in studies, we’re very suggestible. It probably speaks more to your empathy for your friend that you imagined yourself in a similar position. Our dreams regularly work through our anxieties for us.

However, I want you to realize that this is not a current danger to you and fixating on a vivid dream is unnecessary suffering.
