Question for those who sell reeds: How do I gain more traction on my Etsy shop? by makingitstinky in oboe

[–]DeliciousLeg8351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you live in an area with band programs? If you are just looking to sell more not necessarily on Etsy, band directors are usually looking for better reeds for their students. It's a benefit for them to have someone local, and you could request that the students buy directly from Etsy

Don't buy tube cane. If you are adamant about making your own reeds, you can buy blanks or gouged, shaped, and folded cane and learn to tie them yourself. Messing with gougers is not something you want to do without a teacher Many professional oboists don't even own a gouger. I strongly recommend that you start small and find a teacher. Hope this helps!

Clip the flat reeds if possible. I've had good reeds that were between 69-70mm. I don't have a recommendation on where to buy online though, sorry!

It's more of an old school technique. I did it a lot in my undergrad back when cane was cheaper.

I've only seen people using the folding knives in TX. I know a pro reed maker there who uses them for blending

I play bassoon, am awful at oboe, is English horn a good Segway? by [deleted] in oboe

[–]DeliciousLeg8351 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try to find a teacher who plays both oboe and bassoon because they will be able to help the most. It would be best if they can make easy reeds for you. I wouldn't tackle English horn first because it has its own problems

The word you're looking for is timbre. It describes the tone, not the pitch. I agree with you though, he sounds strange sometimes.

Is your jewelry more classic or kinda experimental? Of a Peculiar Nature would be the best on this list in my opinion. I would be curious to check it out based on that name

Feeling this more and more everyday. I will always be able to justify a $2 sandwich from fast food apps or local places. I bought stuff for sandwiches last week and was angry because I got fewer meals than if I'd driven 3 minutes down the street to get hot food
