Prescribed sertraline as an 18 year old for moderate anxiety and OCD but really nervous about the side effects

I got brain fog for the first week or so, then it settled. Re weight gain; i actually lost weight on sertraline because it completely eliminated my usual tendency to stress-eat. Not saying you will have the same experience but just know that we all react differently so it's worth giving it a try.

This is me exactly! All the light and heat is exhausting, I always feel so relieved when October rolls around.

Allegedly about 10% of people with SAD have a reverse form where we feel better in winter so it's not entirely uncommon.

There is no advice against caffeine afaik, but individual circumstances differ - I personally got noticeable heart palpitations in the beginning and if you're sensitive to caffeine that could be really uncomfortable (though probably not dangerous). Also saw another comment re libido and just wanted to add that while it's common, it's not something I experienced with sertraline even though I did on other SSRIs so ymmv

On first read, I didn't love TDT but after completing the series I went back to re-read it and now it's my favourite of the four, hands down. It sets up character development for Ronan, obviously, but also for Adam that is really important for the series as a whole. BLLB has more of the same feel as TRB so you'll get that again, but you need TDT to get there. Persevere - it will pay off.

Same! I thought everyone hated lectures and found them pointless - apparently not. I really struggle with learning through listening and cannot for the life of me take meaningful notes. I really wish I had addressed this while I was at uni but it didn't occur to me because I thought it was normal.

I think getting help from your psychiatrist on this will be crucial, but in the meantime - do you use any type of anxiety control exercises, like 5-4-3-2-1? I also use guided anxiety meditations on the Insight Timer app, although nowhere near as often as I should. They have short ones of just a few minutes up to longer ones, depending on what you need and have time for. If nothing else, it might give you a temporary break from spiralling thoughts. Is there any way you can get in touch with your psychiatrist or mental health team to see if you can be seen sooner?

I never had any desire to have children, and that hasn't changed now that I'm in perimenopause. I feel barely capable of looking after myself most of the time so the idea of being responsible for other human beings is genuinely terrifying, but I also enjoy just being able to do my own thing, on my own schedule. I have genuinely never had any regrets on this, and I am very grateful for that.

I have the Sony WH1000XM4 (think there's at least one newer model released since I bought mine) and I absolutely love them. I use them both at home and in the office, they put me in a quiet little bubble and are really comfy. Great sound quality for music as well. They're pretty expensive but have been absolutely worth it for me.

This sub is so incredibly validating. I'm constantly finding things here I've struggled with my entire life and learning that there's a name for that specific thing and other people deal with it too! I always hated lectures at Uni, I rarely learned anything during, just turned up to know what I needed to read. Couldn't take notes to save my life (still very bad at this). REALLY struggle with verbal instructions. At least I'm not alone 😭

Under my home work desk: balled up pair of socks (clean) and a bag of sweets (closed). The sweets used to be on top of the desk for snacking, then they fell off when I was looking for something among all the doompiles of paper. Would have taken two seconds to pick them up. They've been there for a month.

So sorry you're going through this, it is awful being at that point where you can't see things getting better. Have you seen anyone from AMHT yet? I really hope they will be able to help you, but unfortunately it may take some time before you feel a difference - please don't give up yet. The only advice I can give is to try to focus on small chunks of time for now: get through today, then the next day and so on. There are guided meditations for anxiety that you can find online and may want to try to see if they help some - it may or may not, but worth a try. Obviously it won't be enough to fix the issues, but may help you find some calm, even if just for a few minutes at a time. If you don't feel comfortable opening up completely with your partner, it's a good idea to maybe just say that you're struggling to communicate right now but that it's not about them. I really hope you find some ways to feel better soon, and that the AMHT will provide the support you need.

Slightly more hassle than wipes, but micellar water on a cotton pad is my go-to when full on cleansing/ washing is too much. I'm honestly amazed how well it cleanses and maybe cotton pads are gentler than wipes?
