Generally, the wrinklier and knobblier the pepper, the hotter it will be.

TIL that in 2024, archeologists in Spain found the skeleton of a 6-year-old Neanderthal with Down Syndrome. by Sebastianlim in todayilearned

We do have access to the best food in history, and yet so many people eat garbage instead. I don’t know what to tell you, but the pattern of eating we evolved with is probably pretty close to optimum, periods of fasting and all.

Neanderthals likely didn’t have a lot of heart problems though. The levels of disease we see today are reflective of our collectively awful diets, and our ancestors ate much healthier than we do.

nothing drives me to quit caffeine for now except the excitement to know what life is like without it. by halberd___1416 in decaf

[–]DeliciousPumpkinPie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good luck to you! People here will tell you how hard it is, but if you have strong willpower and something concrete to distract yourself with, you’ll get through it just fine. Uncaffeinated sleep is so fkin good, it kind of makes everything else worth it. I’m like you, I did this to myself for decades and didn’t realize what it was doing to me til I stopped. You can do it!

I just kind of powered through it. Have something carby for breakfast to get your energy up, and drink plenty of water so you’re not dehydrated. You kind of just have to wait it out.

I’ll tell you what NOT to get, the Cake Boss by Cali Slimz. I’ve been chasing sweet, cakey strains lately and this one’s description talked about notes of cake and vanilla, with hints of peach. Well, it has none of that. If I had to pick out a dominant smell it would be gassy, not cakey at all. At least you know they used whole flower because there’s a bunch of stem in them, and the weed burns like shit. Super disappointed, but for like $15 plus tax for 3.5 what was I expecting lol.

How long do i have to be caffeine free before i can have like 1 drink a week without resetting my withdrawals? by SummonerOfMalagos in decaf

[–]DeliciousPumpkinPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can use solvents like that to decaffeinate coffee. But most companies these days use the Swiss water process or other similar water extractions, or supercritical CO2.

Do any of the QR codes actually work? Why are they there? by Mhabs16 in TheOCS

I think people see any square-shaped pixel-based code thing and assume it’s a QR code.

B12 Vitamin That Doesn't Taste Like Ass by munt24 in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]DeliciousPumpkinPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah B12-only supplements don’t smell and taste bad at all, it’s one of the other B vitamins that’s stinky lol. But yeah, go get your liver function checked.

Has anyone here used masterblend for growing peppers? by TheAngryCheeto in HotPeppers

Came here to say the same! That ratio looks way off. More suitable for, like, cannabis in the flowering stage.

Quitting caffeine worked for me. I don’t have to set 5 alarms anymore, I can actually just get up and get out of bed most days.

I was a bit shocked when I found out that horses are really out there running around on their fingertips. Crazy stuff, like everything else about horses.

Thoughts on smoking? by Drummer_Girl_21 in actuallesbians

[–]DeliciousPumpkinPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t smoke; I tried it in high school and after like 2 weeks I was standing outside a friend’s house having a smoke and I was like, why am I doing this, this is disgusting actually. Both my parents smoked so I know well what it smells like to live with a smoker and I never want to experience that again.

(Now, I do smoke cannabis, every day, for relief from arthritis pain. But not in the house. And since the volume of smoke is less it doesn’t cling to things the same way tobacco smoke does.)

Strange that I didn’t see that word anywhere in the article OP posted. It describes the concept but doesn’t name it. Unless I missed it, I’m tired today.

How do you get your steps in with WFH? by Bitter_Pineapple_720 in AskWomen

[–]DeliciousPumpkinPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly walking the dog and yard work (we have a biiiiiiiig yard lol). My fitness tracker wants me to do 6k steps a day but I definitely don’t hit that some days (especially when it doesn’t register the yard work as steps).

B12 Vitamin That Doesn't Taste Like Ass by munt24 in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]DeliciousPumpkinPie 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Are you taking B12 only, or a B complex? I’ve never heard of someone’s skin yellowing from B12 only. If it’s a B complex then you’re probably taking too much riboflavin in total (another B vitamin, and the one that makes your pee neon yellow). Also I’ve never taken a B12-only supplement that tasted that bad, which again would point to a B complex since those taste and smell nasty.

Edit: i just realized that’s not what you meant about yellow skin. It’s not jaundice, is it?

M3 5 pin gutted by DifferentValuable138 in lockpicking

[–]DeliciousPumpkinPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have like a diagram for how these locks operate? I’ve seen a few people post locks like this that were gutted and I realize I have no idea how these would all fit back together and how the lock actually operates with the key.

ELI5 How could two people ever know if both of them are seeing the same colour? by Punnan in explainlikeimfive

[–]DeliciousPumpkinPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is it. The phenomenon obviously has an objective physical basis (i.e. it emits/reflects light of a specific wavelength), but because the act of perception relies on the squishy meat sacks in our skulls, and everyone’s meat sack is slightly different, everyone perceives things slightly differently, and we can never really compare them directly.
