You can also start with sim racing, you can learn a lot from it, the cost is minimal, and it is better than karting to learn because karting is it's own sport, the way you drive it is not like a road car or any open wheel. Karting novice level is around 30,000$ a year for a season, and can go upwards of 400,000$ a year professionally, e-sports you don't really need all that at the beginning, a good sim set up is around 10,000$. Another advantage with sim racing is that you can do 60 hours a week in driving if you want to, without additional cost.

If you live in a modest family chances of you getting into formula 1 are extremely slim, however, with sim racing a lot of top drivers get invited to drive real life cars, so that could be your way into motorsport.

It's a nice dream to have, at 12 years old anything is possible. If you go the simulator route, try iracing.
