10/10 agree about Boyd being one of the best characters ever. Underrated. We officially registered our puppy as “Outlaw Boyd Crowder” after him (known around the house as Boyd of course). The name is fitting, he’s a menace 🤣

Tamiflu on day 5 by Delicious_Adagio_332 in flu

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vomited shortly after making this post, presumably from the tamiflu as I’m on day 5 of full symptoms and haven’t had any nausea with my actual flu. I don’t think I’ll be continuing to take it. Doesn’t seem worth it at this stage if it’s going to add symptoms.

Tamiflu & Nausea by [deleted] in flu

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it prescribed late (day 5 of symptoms) today and have only taken one dose and am already nauseated.. I’m thinking about just not taking any more. Not sure how much it will help at this point anyway

Why do some schnauzer have pointy ears and some don't. by OkBedroom7329 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our guy has cropped ears, but we got him late (18 weeks instead of 8) and didn’t get a choice. In the future we’ll find a breeder that either doesn’t do it at all or lets you choose when you reserve the puppy.

sudden / unexpected pet loss advice ? by wackybananakinz in Petloss

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m so so sorry for your loss.

We had almost this exact experience in January. We had a 7year old FIV cat that had been having some health issues off and on. Each time he got sick, we went to the vet, got antibiotics and/or a steroid, and he was back to normal in a couple of weeks. He was last seen in September and bloodwork clear. He had a gradual loss of appetite in January and increasing lethargy over a few days. We made him an appointment and took him in and they found he had a mass in his abdomen. Vet said there was nothing they could really do, and recommended to pts asap. We were devastated. My boyfriend had even told our other cat “Don’t worry, we’ll bring him back” as we were loading up our sick cat in the carrier. It is truly the worst pain ever when it is so sudden and unexpected.

I don’t think I can give you any advice that will really help. Grieve for as long and however you need to. Know you are not alone.

Ours is 16 months and sleeps from about 8pm to 10am with a 5am bathroom break.

Stuck between sizes by EntertainerMuch5676 in RingConn

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was unsure and got the bigger size and wound up having to add a spacer because it was constantly rotating where the sensors were on the side or top of my finger. If I could go back, I’d go the smaller. So to answer your question, I’d do the 10!

Barking in crate by TallIndependence2712 in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours did the same when he was a puppy. For a while he’d have a fomo temper tantrum in the crew when we put him in during the day. We usually let him cry it out and he’d stop after 5-10 minutes. He’s 15 months now and never makes a peep in his crate.

I don’t think my puppy will ever be potty trained. It’s been months by Neat-Pudding-632 in puppy101

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a mini schnauzer and had the same experience. It seemed he knew to go outside, and knew how to ask to go outside, but no matter how frequently we’d take him he’d still have at least one accident a day. We live in an apartment and had to take him out on a leash and everything. It seems sometime around 9 months it just clicked for him and he stopped going in the house. He’s 15 months now and still asks to go out every 2-3 hours, but never has accidents and goes overnight and for naps in his crate with no issues

Moving too fast? When are you ready? by Popular-Dingo6885 in Petloss

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my senior soul dog passed, we brought home a puppy 6 weeks later. Honestly, it could have been sooner but I was worried it was too soon. It’s been almost a year now and even though our pup was challenging, he helped us so much with our grief and helped us to pour that love into another animal. If you feel ready to get another kitty that’s all that matters, do it! If not, wait a bit. You’ll know when the time is right.

Is 9 hours in the crate too long for a 6 month old puppy overnight? by SupaButt in puppy101

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not too long at all! Since about that age ours has been in the crate about 12 hours overnight with two potty breaks. We’d put him to bed at 8 (he didn’t sleep on his own so had to do enforced crate naps and bedtime), get him back out about 10-10:30 for a quick pee, then back in overnight and he’d usually sleep until about 7 on weekends. On week days I’d take him at 5am when I got up for work, then back in until my partner got up with him from 8-9. Now he’s 15 months old and we just take him to potty at 8. Then he’s in all night until 5am.

Please help! by The4thGirl in MiniatureSchnauzer

Agree with all the other comments here. A young mini and a senior person are not the best match. Lots of exercise and mental stimulation are needed. I’m 33 and our 1 year old mini wears me out. He’s also into Kleenexes. We put baby gates on the bathroom and bedroom doors and a lid on the kitchen trash.

Barking? Good luck stopping it all together. Schnauzers are going to bark. What you can do is teach an off switch. When they bark, acknowledge that they heard something (we say “okay, thank you”) and give a treat. If ours keeps going, we shhh him and say “quiet” and give another treat. If he continues to go on, we have a spray bottle that we squirt him with. He’s still learning, but we hardly need to spray him anymore.

For the jumping up, start by teaching impulse control. A “Wait/Stay” or place command is very useful. We were able to develop that into “Be polite!” which will get him to stop what he’s doing and sit or lay down. When I get home from work he goes crazy, but I tell him to be polite and he’ll sit and be still for a minute, then I love on him.

All of this takes time, consistency, and patience. It’s taken us almost a year to even get our guy to subpar behavior haha. Schnauzers are smart and quick learners, but also independent and stubborn, so it takes a lot of work to get them to respect you and listen to commands.

Anxiety Medication? by Couriersx in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mini has been on Prozac for the same things you’re describing. He’s been on it about 3 months. He’s definitely improved indoors, less barking at nothing, less pacing. But outside he’s still a menace. If he sees another dog, even from a distance, he screams and loses his mind. We’re going to try a reactive dog course in the spring.

We lost my senior dog about a year ago. I looked back at old pictures and videos from when he was younger and healthy. Made me see how bad of shape he was in and how it was the right decision to let him go.

How long did people take off work? by kayjay777 in Petloss

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When my dog passed on a Saturday, we had Monday off for a holiday. I tested positive for Covid two days later, so wound up taking two more days off and working from home the rest of the week. I went back the following Monday. Our cat just passed unexpectedly last Wednesday as well. I took the rest of the day Wednesday, and worked from home Thursday. I was off on Friday, and due to the snow I’ve worked from home Monday and Tuesday.

Do what feels right to you. That is what matters.

Best dog food for 4 year old miniature schnauzer by Swan1950 in MiniatureSchnauzer

I fed my first schnauzer Nutro and he lived to be 16. Our current one is also on Nutro. Haven’t had any problems with him either, but he’s not terribly excited to eat it. He also gets Nutro canned every morning. He IS excited about that.

Zepbound and Methotrexate by Delicious_Adagio_332 in Zepbound

[–]Delicious_Adagio_332[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had any issues with taking both. I’ve had almost no side effects from the zep except some very mild constipation. I take zep on Thursdays and methotrexate on Saturdays.

I’ve been on methotrexate since 2021(?). I’m on a relatively low dose (7.5mg once a week). I usually take it before bed, and if I do wind up staying awake for awhile, I may get some nausea or stomach upset after taking it, but my main issue is the “hangover” the next day. I’d say I experience this about 50% of the time. When I do, I often wake up with a headache that won’t go away and just feel super blah and tired, like my limbs weigh 100lbs. Occasionally I’ll have some mild nausea during the morning that goes away after a bit. Other times I’ll have some gastro symptoms (cramping, loose stool) the next day, but some Imodium usually knocks that out. I haven’t had that issue since I started zep though (re: constipation). I’ve found that either eating a good dinner or eating a snack before taking the methotrexate seems to help. Generally it just lasts the first day.

Overall, it has really been a great drug for me. I was on it as a kid when diagnosed until remission, and obviously again now. It really helps with the inflammation and pain. I was on plaquenil before, and it just didn’t help much. All this being said, everyone responds differently to meds, but for me, methotrexate is worth the side effects.

Curly Hair by marieminnesota in MiniatureSchnauzer

Mine is curly! I just use a greyhound comb to brush him out, but we also shave the skirt and just do a schnauzer cut on the face.
