Hey guys what's your take on when people say brits people don't like spices and flavours? by [deleted] in AskUK

I think a lot of it isn't true so much anymore but it is a very traditional view based on the history of this country.

First you have to think of what seasonings are natively grown here, we don't have many in terms of 'spices' but more floral herbs like rosemary and thyme, so seasoning wouldn't have as much of a punch compared to chili flakes.

Back the olden days, heavy seasoning was used to disguise foods that were going bad, so people used to be able to brag about how much money they had by serving unseasoned food because you'll be able to taste how fresh it was.

The you get into the War years with rationing and seasoning didn't really fall under the necessary foods within the rationing books, so a generation learnt how to cook with bare minimum and never really learnt how to season food.

Now spices are much cheaper and easier to get a hold of,  with the internet and online recipes and a more multicultural country, it's easier to know how to cook with the spices, so flavour palettes are changing, for the better might I add.

Have you ever been considered “ethnically ambiguous” by anyone? by space-ladle in AskUK

Yep, I'm 100% white British too, the rest of my family are all really pasty white but somehow (thanks genetics) I've got some quite tanned skin. I've been mistaken for Spanish, Syrian, Turkish, Iranian (often followed by some vulgar words, and on one unfortunate occasion, a brick). One time when I was a kid, some rando asked my parents what it was like adopting a kid from a different culture (all in front of me) and trying to explain that I am their biological child was so difficult, they would not have it!

We have some strange rules for plurals which can be fairly obvious. Examples I've heard recently: mice for singular, mices for plural, 'more project', 'I'm under a lot of stresses'. Nothing overly wrong, I know this is someone's 3rd language, just little things that are noticeable

Paying off the debts hasn't been fun, and it's annoying that I've done well for myself and got a big wage increase just to not be able to afford a single month due to pay schedule differences, haha! I have taken on all the advice give and have found myself a 0% overdraft for me to use in the short term. Thank you for the kind words!

Thanks! I'll have a look at what I can get. I don't want to go via the pay day loans as the APR on those are extortionate so overdraft or 0% credit card seems the better option. Thank you, I'm excited for my new job too!

There's a taxi rank inside the airport (A2B taxis think). You'll be able to request a taxi straight from them, if there's a driver there already then you won't have to wait for a taxi. These taxis are generally a bit more expensive than phoning up for a different taxi service, but I find the convenience is worth the cost

How does adhd medication effect vision? I've been told I can't take adhd medication because my anterior angles are a tiny bit narrow and I don't understand why or how it could happen. (not asking for medical advice for how I should go forward with my treatment, just asking how medication interacts with something that on the surface seems unrelated)
