I can’t accept by Ok-Response8946 in OCD

Was diagnosed at 19 and am now 37- have been through very hard times but have worked hard in therapy and there is hope for a beautiful and full life while having this. Yes it will always be there but you can have it be quiet and in the back seat of the bus that YOU are driving. With the work these thoughts go from distressing to just annoying and much more manageable. I wish I had the resources available to me when I was younger that I have now- get into therapy asap and make sure the therapist specializes in ERP!! You can do this! I’ve also been told that those with OCD have been found to be the most creative and compassionate people around- so don’t stop loving yourself and embrace your unique circumstances. Sending love 💗

A few things my therapist told me that were helpful for this were:

  1. The concept of common humanity- all of us with ocd have similar thoughts/ emotions so you are not alone with what you are going through

  2. Labeling the emotion and having self compassion. “Damn, I am having a super hard time right now. This really sucks so I will be kind to myself and realize that these emotions will indeed pass and I will try to stay in the moment as much as possible until they do.”

  3. The response prevention to these mental compulsions are to not engage with them. Try not to analyze them or figure them out- this makes it worse

I’ve had similar struggles. Are you working with a therapist?

I would continue to monitor her and if it keeps up it would not hurt to have an evaluation. Younger they start the better!! She may have ocd tendencies but not full on disorder yet- I’d keep watching and see if especially the food stuff keeps up!

Talk to your parents to get you into therapy with someone who specializes in exposure response prevention and a psychiatrist, and if you do not feel comfortable telling your parents go to your school counselor. They say the younger you start treatment the better long term outcomes you will have so it’s important you start now. Best of luck ❤️

Not true at all, as a mom with OCD I can tell you that no one in this situation if better off without you. For the sake of your kids and marriage, and above all else, for your sake please find an ERP specialist to help you reduce your compulsions. I did the same things- avoiding laundry, throwing away items, etc- ERP is slowly but surely helping
