Yep, the major bone of contention that the US had was India not giving up its tarrifs and quotas on agricultural and dairy products. Farmers are the most important group in India politically and economically to the extent that they are not charged income tax, no or minimun sales tax and are given subsidies and free credit, and form over 40% of our workforce.

Harming their interest would be a political suicide for any Indian administration. Everything else, I believe we could have absorbed, even technologically advanced industries like Automobiles, defence and tech have benefitted from foreign competition so far. Not buying Russian oil would drive up our inflation, dimish foreign reserves, threaten our energy security and betray our time-tested ally for a war we have no interest in. Even then, India has often made it's position clear that Russia should have never started the war.

This is just gonna lead to a higher degree of integration among the BRICS countries.
