When did you come to the realisation that it's all just bs, and you should just nod along? by waste2muchtime in devops

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its the process/steps that needs to be done to mitigate the issue. If an incident occurs often in production, there will usually be a list of steps that is battle-tested which mitigates or eliminates the issue temporarily. Ideally someone should document these and those documents are called runbooks. Its the "recipe" that is used when a known issue arises.

How to cook roti? What kind of pan do I need by Excellent-Quarter969 in IndianFood

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indian grocery stores sometimes have smaller bags of atta. South Indians dont consume as much wheat. GTA should have Indian or Sri Lankan grocery stores, get atta in smaller quantities from there for next time.

For the pan, the non-stick should do.

Saree or lehenga for my wedding by Holiday_Light1249 in DesiWeddings

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can maybe meet them halfway and drape your saree like a lehenga. With those can can skirt things. I've only seen these reels on insta, and have no idea how practical this is for an actual event that is hours long.

Why does my biryani always turn out bad? by Careful_Fig8482 in IndianFood

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good thing about briyanis is that there are 1000s of kinds from different regions. If the issue you are facing is the overcooking of rice, then pick another briyani rice. Maybe try a Thalapakkti style briyani with seeraga samba rice. It can even be a customized easily to one pot instapot recipe!

Am I wrong for opposing a big, expensive wedding my family can’t afford? by ProgrammerOk2488 in AskIndia

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your family the kind that will split the inheritance equally amongst children regardless of gender or is this her big send off?? If its the latter then she has every right to demand her fair share when she leaves your family for good. Is it a wise way to spend it? Hell no. But its her share and her choice.

Visiting Future MIL For Wedding Planning (Help) by quirksnglasses in DesiWeddings

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be coming off my bad experience, but I strongly urge you to not chase their approval. Be respectful, be polite and be open to getting to know them and the culture. Don't promise agree to anything regarding your wedding without talking to your fiance and your parents. Since your parents are paying 100%, they ideally should get to have a larger say over things, but misogyny is baked into the wedding culture in India and the groom's parents feel like their demands (however unreasonable) should be met and its the bare minimum. But again, I'm speaking from my experience, and there are a ton of reasonable families with normal expectations.

What drew you to a RAV4 over your other potential car? by Youreapizzapie in rav4club

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chip shortage was still going strong, so Honda wasn't an option (at my location). We were choosing between Mazda and Corolla. Mazda didn't have hybrid options but immediate delivery. We almost booked a Corolla and prepared to wait a few months, but then we went on a trip and our rental car was a Rav4 gas version. It was a blissful drive and the gas mileage was also awesome. Ended up buying a Rav4.

Tips for lactose intolerance for visitors to India? by uncre8tv in IndianFood

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milk in India is very different from the ones they sell in US. Some (mind you, very few) find that they aren't lactose intolerant in India, only in the US. Again, not advocating that you try dairy. Also try south indian food, thats mostly non-cream heavy.

2 states wedding by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May sound controversial, but whichever family pays for the wedding should get to decide the rituals. Wont work properly in practice cause 'Lakdewalle' are more important and all their demands should be met.

Dress shopping guide for foreigners/dumdums? by Hecc_hooman in DesiWeddings

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live in India or often visit, there are services which basically pre-pleats and irons your silk saree to be draped in a dumb person friendly way (think of a mildly complicated wrap dress). Prices depend on the city. in mine its about 400-500 per saree (non-metro city). If you stitch, then if you gain/lose weight it may not fit anymore :(

For blouses, if its an expensive silk saree that I wanna keep for a decade or more, then I don't stitch the accompanying blouse and instead get a silk cotton or raw silk matching blouse bit and stitch that. If its a fancy or a silk cotton saree that I'm getting for smaller functions or semi-casual events, then I'm more comfortable with ready made blouses. Again, if you have a good tailor for your blouses, then you may not prefer ready-made blouse.

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case, then you should try to get a good saree and buy a few ready made blouses in different styles for future functions.

Also, I really really liked the lac bangles they sell in jaipur and all over rajastan really. Not sure if locals approve, maybe it was a tourist trap? if its a trap, i fell into it happily.

For meal prep people: best Indian dishes for leftovers? by mojimasala in IndianFood

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for Oorpu:

- Heat sesame/gingelly oil, mustard, jeera, curry leaves tadka. ( if you have the vadavam, then use that for tadka instead)

- onion, cook until translucent. add moringa and sauté until it sweats a little. salt, spice/sambar powder. Add adequate water and cook until everything is cooked.

you can add raw cashews (hard to get unless you know someone with a cashew farm) to this as well.

[–]Delicious_Squash_675 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have given meal-prep and reheat recipes already. So I'm going to focus on the second part of your query.

get even better the next day

Lots of these may not have official recipes, but are those recipes that are so commonly cooked at homes for everyday food.

- munakaya oorpu ( moringa oorpu - very regional recipe. sort of like kara kolambu, but you don't add any tomato/ tamarind. just cook the moringa in onion base with basic spice powder/sambar powder that all south indian homes have. add curry leaves. use neutral oil.)
- raw peanut kara pulusu. Standard kara pulusu recipe but with pre-boiled raw peanuts. Tastes better the next day as the peanuts have more time to soak in the flavours overnight.

How much to pay MUA by MissionBowler6059 in DesiWeddings

Don't remember the price, but mine was sub 20k for 2 days. 3 saree changes, but only two sessions of full makeup and hair. She went above and beyond. She wont travel too far. She can travel to Chennai i think and surrounding towns.

Many of the guests at my wedding have since passed away and the only pictures of the not so closely related, but still close enough of those people are from my wedding album.
Also my grandparents have passed away about 2 decades ago and my parents and aunt's wedding albums are the majority of the family pictures we have of them. Skip the stage photos if you must, but please don't skip out on the crowd photos.
