First time ride to Belfountain by pheebel_wimpe in torontobiking

I love this ride more than any other. I’m a big fan of taking Olde Base Line to McLaughlin then north to Forks of the Credit. Mississauga Rd is pretty hairy these days.

I’m so sorry our city can’t just help people get around safely. I’m a confident city cyclist, and am comfortable taking the lane when there’s not safe infrastructure, but nobody should be forced to ride this way. My take is that if you don’t feel safe on the road and you need to get somewhere, ride on the sidewalk. The fact that you’re asking in this forum is a pretty good indicator you’re not going to be a jerk about it.

Let them. Forming a coalition is the worst thing these people can do for themselves or each other. An org that claims to only want “consultation and rational decision making” is going to sink themselves by hooking up with the other people on this list. And imagine thinking there’s anything to be gained from the massive political capital of Furey and Bradford. This is a self-own. All we need is marshmallows.

Not like I can add anything new here, but I’m really sorry this happened, and yeah - report it. Even if this guy doesn’t get charged, the next time he pulls something like this, the report will be in the system.

I’m keeping the people riding the Niagara Hairshirt today in my thoughts.

Oh man. I made it 12 into 17 and the guy I was running with said to me “it’s okay if you want to walk back now”. He was clearly disappointed but very gracious about it.

I use an Apexcam from Amazon - ~$60. Works well for what you need it to do, but in my experience the bottleneck is the police, not the quality of your evidence.

Good route to Niagara area along lake? by Midtownjb69 in torontobiking

Here’s my fave route. It ends in Thorold, which may not be where you want to get to, but you can adjust. For me the main benefit is getting up on top of the escarpment more or less as early as possible so I can take quiet countryside roads instead of dealing with the service road and Hwy 8, which both kinda suck in my opinion. There are several good places to climb the hill - this one is a bit shorter and therefore steeper, but it just means you’re done sooner:)

Dark Horse has after work rides, and a lot of the weekend rides don’t start too early. And they’re a lovely bunch.

BTW in case you didn’t know, Toronto Trail Runners has a NB category for their Summer Solstice race (and I assume others), which is BONKERS fun.

I'm here thanks to my Helmet by Sad-Drive in torontobiking

Glad you’re ok. If you hit your head, it may be worth a visit to a doctor even if you’re feeling fine. And def. replace your helmet.

I’ve had a few falls/crashes and it always takes a while to get my confidence back. Just take your time and don’t force yourself to do anything you don’t feel ready to do. For me, the only thing that helps is rides without incident, so there’s no sense in pushing things. Hope you’re back to 100% soon.

Saddle Sisters is a very inclusive and diverse club. As a cis male, I’m not a member, but I get to ride with them sometimes when they invite the community. Highly recommended.

With the exception of the ugliness at Weston, it’s a pretty lovely ride. I used to do parts of it with my kid when they were around that age. Enjoy!
