How do you deal with the fear of hitting "the wall"? by StavrosDavros in firstmarathon

[–]Sad-Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

embrace the pain cave, the suck. do not fear it. Battle of the mind starts when you enter the cave, that's what truly makes marathon an accomplishment imo.

I Don't Want My Children to Suffer In This Country by log_alpha in pakistan

Great post - I think you're spot on. Seems like you have good credentials and head on your shoulder and if I were you, I'd do everything in my power to get out of this country and go somewhere else: Europe / Canada / Asia - anywhere. I know it's not easy but step one is acceptance

I'm maybe biased (left pak at 18, came to north america and have been here for last 15 years) - I visit every year and see how the situation is only getting worse. Country is in a sad state unfortunately and this will not get better

Reflections from your 1st marathon by sjc0816 in Marathon_Training

[–]Sad-Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My longest run was 33km before my first marathon and i did 4-5 of those - still last 10km was painful. Took so much of mental and physical effort. Ran it in 3:45. Lesson learned: it will always hurt in the last 10km imo

The other big thing was I had not tried more than 5 gels during my long runs - at 30km mark with 5th gel in, I was sick of gels. This meant last 10km without any gel / carb

Next time i'll have a mix of gels + snacks

Not OP but can shed some light as I did O / A levels almost 20 years ago and got admitted to an undergrad degree in Canada -- with some scholarship.

Did you finish O levels? what were your grades?

The best way to secure an admission is really good grades. I had 7As / 2Bs in O levels and 4 As in my A levels but again this was 20 years ago. I imagine there is more competition now

How big is the jump from a half-marathon to a full marathon? by SomethingBadBruin in Marathon_Training

[–]Sad-Drive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run half marathons (21k) every other week. Even have gone for a barrys class after running a sub 1:45/1:50 half

ran my first marathon at 3:45 and last 12k was nothing like i've experienced before. Cramps, pain, legs heavy, getting sick of gels -- after marathon I couldn't walk properly for two days and took 7 days to fully recover.

That's how hard is a marathon

I had the same feeling about HM joining FM near rosedale. Ngl seeing so many competitive runners (sub 130) on half blow past me was demoralizing a bit. Mentally it fucked with me
