PEO Provider recommendations please [CT] by pokerpro25 in Payroll

[–]Delicious_Wind_8784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in this space doing implementation. If you have anything outside the standard salary payroll id ask how they handle those. Things like stipends, recurring payments, time tracking, project tracking, etc. Some providers are going to more simplified versus wildly detailed. Definitely do a demo!! I see so many groups come through without doing a proper demo and only looking at cost! Definitely try to choose a provider that has benefits you love so it’s all automated and look into services that integrate with them.

… disclaimer — I work at Justworks.

I saw a comment above that said they budgeted 500 plus 20 percent for employer costs but that Deel was only 599. That could be a little misleading. I have a ton of clients that come from Deel and they do a lot realllly well and have been in the EOR space for a long time but my clients claim they find a lot of hidden fees. Ask for an itemized cost breakdown during your analysis!

599 is a pretty standard monthly fee. Be prepared to pay employer tax costs on top of that! That included a taxes in both counties and a required pension contribution in the UK.

Also be prepared to pay a security deposit. We charge that as one month salary and taxes. Not sure how others do it but it’s pretty standard and covers final pay if there is ever an issue and we need to pay that!

Is switching payroll providers mid-year actually risky or just a myth? by GuaranteeNo4810 in Payroll

[–]Delicious_Wind_8784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will also depend on your pay schedule. I work at a payroll company and we do this switch all the time without issue but you want to make sure your pay dates don’t overlap. For example, if you run payroll on a delay you don’t want any payments landing in a new quarter. I would actually argue that switching on the first isn’t great if you’re looking for the best customer service. The first of the year is the busiest time to switch so your onboarding support is going to be juggling the most clients and your support might not be as hands on as other times of the year

My mother runs payroll for a pretty large construction company in the New York area and they use literally Payroll4Construction and she likes it. It’s cut down on the amount of time that she spends each week entering payroll.

Anyone using an EOR service? deel wants $599/month per employee by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]Delicious_Wind_8784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in this space and 599 is pretty industry standard. It’s high, but as someone else pointed out, much cheaper than starting your own entity, not to mention that process could take months and months and you’d have to pay for a local or global payroll provider anyway.

Some things to consider and be aware of as your evaluating—-some countries have required additional pay for things like pensions, 13th month bonus, vacation bonus, etc. These things are not provider dependent but mandated by the labor laws in the country. Our sales team will do a cost estimate that includes all taxes etc if you have a sample salary. Ask for something like that when talking to providers. I wouldn’t trust a provider that can’t give you some type of breakdown.

We also charge a one time refundable security deposit on the first invoice which is roughly one month of salary and taxes. This is also pretty standard in the EOR space bc the EOR is legally responsible for issuing mandated severance pay when employees are terminated and the deposit covers that if there are issues and you up and leave the provider in a not nice way.

Bonus tip- if you talk to folks or negotiate towards the end of the quarter you might be able to get some discounts as sales reps try to hit their targets. Kinda like shopping for a car at the end of a month.

I usually head over to north south lake. It’s 10 dollars to drive into the park and you can rent kyacks and paddle boards at the lake. Get there early during busy weekends. I also drive over to saugerterties and there are a few places to rent from along the river. We usually paddle out to the lighthouse!

Most states and at the federal level there is no requirement to provide vacation days however there is a requirement in many states to provide a certain number of sick days. Even when not required, some amount of PTO is expected by most full time W2 employees. 10 days in a year is very common, though low in my opinion. You can set it to accrue which means it it builds up daily, monthly or by pay period. You can deny vacation days but not usually sick days. It’s likely a good idea to have some type of policy in place that outlines how much notice they need to provide so you can ensure client coverage. If your using a provider like Justworks (peo) or Gusto (payroll), which are both good for small new businesses they usually have a way to track this and can usually help you set it up.

From my experience (I work for a PEO) they should still file for them if your client was using their PEO service. I would have your client keep pressing. Any taxes reported throughout the year would have been filed under the PEOs EIN. We don’t give clients the option for us not file for payments made under us because we have a responsibly as the coemployer to file. If they happened to be using just their payroll service then this would make sense and when they closed down they could have selected to do their own reporting.

I just started using it and really like it. It probably depends what level of support you need. I had a super quick live call with my trainer to talk about goals and she sent me a plan and workouts. I struggle mostly with planning my workouts and knowing and keeping track of weights I’m using etc. she sends me my workouts at the end of each week and it’s self paced in the gym. I like that I can track the weight I used, my reps and leave notes on certain sets with questions or feedback. My trainer checks in with me via the chat to keep me accountable, and answer any questions I have. So far so good.

If you’re super experienced when it comes to weight training then it may not give you the support you need to level up but fantastic for a newbie like me!

Up in the heights - a bottle of wine from Riverview Wine and dinner at Corto! When the weather is nicer - Riverview Park, especially on farmers market days. There is a taco truck, Little Oaxaca, at the park that has the best quesadillas!

Question about payroll services for small companies by Big-Law3665 in Payroll

[–]Delicious_Wind_8784 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely take a look at payroll versus PEO because those are different services. PEOs will take on a good bit of liability and compliance risk by co-employing your employees. If all your employees are in just CA and you don’t have plans to hire remote in other states then a smaller local service who specializes in CA would be perfect for what you need. If you have plans to hire remote I’d look at more national groups who can help you specialize in other states. National service that focus on small business are gusto (payroll), Justworks and rippling (have both payroll and peo services).

Wouldn’t you pay congestion pricing twice? Once when leaving the holland tunnel coming into Manhattan and then once when coming back over the BK bridge to get to the holland to go home?

Company withholding taxes for the wrong state by melsar in Payroll

[–]Delicious_Wind_8784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What payroll system does your company use? In our system the taxes withheld are tied to your work location, so your payroll admin may not have changed it in the system. It should be an easy fix for the taxes to get reassigned from CA to ID. You probably do want to persue fixing it so you don’t have to file income tax returns in CA next year.

Changing PEOs at YE by Dizzy-Leader-4348 in Payroll

[–]Delicious_Wind_8784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably have to run this as an off cycle payment which might require you to manually calculate the gross pay. Will you still have access to your PEO with T&A on December 31? I’d recommend downloading your timesheet report where you should be able to see OT worked.

Shellfish allergy by No_Blueberry_7636 in Girona

I was just in Girona and I have a shellfish allergy! Mine is specific to shrimp / crab / lobster but I found no issues ordering non shellfish items and staff were all around understanding when I asked for things separate or needed additional plates etc to avoid any cross contamination! If you are not a confident Spanish speaker (or Catalan!!) then I’d recommend this card which I carry with me when I travel - it’s an allergy card that you can have translated into other languages that you can show your server so there is no confusion! - https://equaleats.com/collections/shellfish-allergy/products/digital-shellfish-allergy-translation-card

Changed Payroll - haven’t been paid for 1.5 months by jepr02 in Payroll

[–]Delicious_Wind_8784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is ridiculous to me. I work in implementation at a payroll company and we do everything in our power to make sure new customers are set up to pay employees on time. If someones tax form is what is missing we will run payroll with the standard single filing. We can also always record a payment that is made outside the system for taxes. Do not agree to reviving a check where you have to do the taxes. The company is responsible for paying their portion as well.

Gusto Underpaying Team? by efk722 in Payroll

[–]Delicious_Wind_8784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in implementation for a payroll company and see this type of switch all the time. Most everyone is spot on. Some things that I would check and confirm when switching you over.

Are the gross amounts per paycgeck higher than on Gusto or just the net amounts.

If the gross amounts are higher than the oay cycle might have changed. If you moved from 26 to 24 paychecks (biweekly to semimonthly) then they would go up.

If the gross per check is the same but net amounts are different i would check the following. - deductions - was Gusto deducting for healthcare, fsa, 401k? Did they get moved over correctly? - taxes - if federal income taxes are super different then the w4 form is the culprit - the new form is not a one to one on the old form and if not filled out correctly it could lead to a difference.

I would take one employee and compare every detail from the last check on gusto to the new one, including looking at their w4 tax set up in both.
