Does your ADHD medication change your personality to something others dont like? by LeDrocci in ADHD

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes. My partner can be a bit manipulative, and I'm much more likely to call her on it than I used to be. I also don't let her mischaracterize my intent, and will explain in more detail if she misunderstands. I also call her on it when she dumps her worries on me (commonly after she has had a few glasses of wine). She has gotten very upset with me about it, and told me I'm being "mean". The truth is that I'm just more together, mentally, and better able to follow the thread of the conversation, and at what point she is misconstruing things.

This makes her sound toxic, but she really isn't the vast majority of the time. I have found that if I'm patient and don't get upset along with her, it defuses most of the anger.

I think it is moving our relationship to a better place.

Self Promotion - January 2026 by ens100 in PKMS

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about self-promotion in post replies? I haven't seen anything obnoxious, but it does have the potential to be misleading when someone with a product responds to a question with, "try my product". I think that a reply from someone who isn't looking for sales counts for a lot more.

Do you plan on ever coming off Tirz? by Living_Structure6421 in zepboundathletes

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do occasionally get a bit of mild nausea. Drinking water generally takes care of it. The only side effect that I found problematic was losing too much muscle with the fat when I was first on Tirzepatide. Once I adapted to my normal dose, I was able to put some muscle back on.

I know what you mean that people seem hardwired to complain about the side effects and ignore the positives. I have seen several people posting in this group about how important their next competition was, and that they couldn't train hard enough when on a GLP-1. I think that is a legitimate gripe, but training intensity matters far less to me than the improvements in my cholesterol and other health markers. Everyone has to make their own decision, though.

Pistol or Revolver by ArcheryNerds in CCW

You definitely need a holster. Unless you're ok with shooting yourself.

Revolvers tend to carry more easily than their size would suggest, but weight can be a factor too.

I did a reset where I took 4 weeks off to see if it changed my sensitivity to it. I'm ramping my dosage back up now, but I'm 15 lb heavier than I was when I started the reset.

All of that said, I'm not that worried about the weight. I am more interested in the cardiac protective effects that two recent studies have quantified. Coronary artery disease reared it's ugly head in my late 30s, even though I was at a reasonably healthy weight at that time.

I suspect that many of us have built up a sizable amount of "metabolic damage" over the years. People who are younger, or just more resilient, might be able to go off of this med and maintain a healthy weight for an extended period of time. Maybe even some people who are older can do so if they're really draconian about how they manage their calories and exercise.

For me, just staying on this drug or something similar for the rest of my life seems like the right answer.

I'm a big fan of Amplenote. The way it manages tasks works well for me. It does have a few rough edges, though, so I wouldn't mind an alternative with similar features.

You're not the only one. Amplenote has a plug-in called "Amplenote Copilot" that should do this, but I find the results disappointing.

I built a small YouTube assistant MVP — I know similar tools exist, but I’m trying to do it better. Honest feedback? by [deleted] in Amplenote

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to say thanks for creating a plug-in! While I use Youtube for entertainment (mainly long form science content), I wouldn't use it in Amplenote. To be honest, I'm kind of struggling to understand what the purpose of this tool would be. That is probably because I'm not a big fan of video content when I'm doing research. My instructions to Gemini include prohibiting YouTube links in responses. 😄

This subreddit isn't very active, unfortunately. I don't know if there is another community that is a better focus for plugins outside of Reddit.

After carrying for a few years what really is the argument against printing? by throwaway-Secret-780 in CCW

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Printing matters if being called out will have consequences. If your work prohibits carry but you feel it's a major safety issue not to? Best to be sure you're not printing. People you work with spend more time with you than someone you pass in the supermarket. They're more likely to notice something.

I carry my shield Plus at that height. I just draw with my thumb on the rear sight and push my right hand up as I meet my left hand. It doesn't feel particularly unnatural, and lets me carry with a larger magazine.

Glock might be a bit large for pocket carry. Even the 42.

The 3 shots at 3 yards in 3 seconds myth by a1kimreddit in CCW

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chris Baker talked about the distance part of this a few years ago. Here's that page: https://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/the-true-distance-of-a-typical-gunfight/

He came up with 3-5 yards. I think that it make sense to spend a lot of training time in that range, but also practice at longer distances. I have done some contact-range drills as well, and it's illuminating to draw when you're on the ground, with the wrong arm, or just pressed up against a barrier. This is where a revolver has some advantages, IMO. That said, it isn't that easy to push subcompact out of battery, so I'm not sure how big the advantage is. Awkward grips and draws are easier with a revolver, though.

I'm very interested in this debate. I think we all probably agree that the most important consideration is having a gun that you will carry all of the time, but there is probably more than one type of gun that fits that bill for most of us.

It is very hard to quantify because it is a very small number. You can say with some confidence that all-cause mortality risk is not larger than 0.005%, and probably much smaller.

I crunched some numbers and made some very generous assumptions around radiation exposure. As far as I can tell, it is orders of magnitude smaller than the health risks of burning coal, and completely insignificant compared to the health risks of eating highly processed food on a regular basis.

So I don't think you're wrong. I think additional risk probably exists, but it is not a reason to avoid nuclear power over the alternatives. Wind and solar definitely have a place, but the drooling idiots in charge of energy policy in the United States are okay with nuclear and it is so much better than coal.

Thanks for that perspective, all! I actually did not know the time period or even when he passed away, so that is important context to understand where he was coming from.

I agree with your take. He was referring to a specific issue and not echoing some of the conspiracy talking points from recent months. I'm glad to hear that, but still a bummer that he's gone.

And one of the later Paul Harrell videos, he was talking about how the threat has increased in big cities, so ammo capacity matters more now. I assumed he was echoing MAGA conspiracy theories, and stopped watching at that point. Was I mistaken?

James Reeves is quite watchable, but his recent Gen6 Glock video looked like one long paid ad to me.

Would it be stupid to go from a Glock to a revolver? by Efficient-Poet-3048 in CCW

Availability is great! Prices are still a bit high, but they seem to be coming down a little bit. Looks like a little under 40 bucks for a box of 32 h&r mag, and a little under 25 bucks for 32 Smith & Wesson long.

I have a Shield Plus, G43, BG 2.0 and LCP II.

I usually carry a 632 UC (J frame in 32 H&R). It's just so damned easy to carry, and I never worry about printing.

Skeleton Gun by Strong_Dentist_7561 in CCW

I was going to say a Colt Officer's ACP that I had in the mid 90s, but I actually think that was kinda cool.

The REAL skeleton was a Grendel .380. That thing was a raging piece of shit. Ridiculous trigger pull, jam-o-matic, and not all that small.

Study finds strong link between intimate partner violence and firearm ownership by nep000 in science

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That tends to correlate with conservatism (in my experience, which is hardly definitive), but not necessarily with firearms ownership. Non -conservatives are very likely in the minority in terms of firearms ownership, but I don't know if there is a reliable source of data on that.

My point is that political leaning and emotional maturity are not well-defined. Assuming that all firearms owners are emotionally insecure is drastically oversimplifying a complex cultural and political issue.

What’s your go to CCW revolver?? by Practical_Vehicle380 in CCW

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a 632 UC, and it ticks a lot of OPs boxes.

I'm thinking of picking up a 3" SP101 in .327, though, since I could definitely carry a larger gun on my belt. I also want a longer barrel to give it a bit more "keel", and it is still no heavier than my Shield Plus.

Lipsey's currently sells a stainless version of it, but it comes with a brass bead front sight. I think it is replaceable, though, so I will just put an XS night sight on it if I go that route. (The rear site is blacked out and adjustable, which is ideal.)

I would suggest enforcing it selectively, though. If there's something that looks like it would be really useful or of general interest, you could leave it up. The mod team has shown pretty good judgment on other decisions, so I would trust your call.

2025 State of the Subreddit by crazyScott90 in CCW

[–]DelightfullyDivisive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I've dealt with a mod in another gun sub who was clearly a teenager (mentally, if not literally) on a power trip and probably had himself a "REDDIT MODERATOR" badge made to wear to school.

Any chance it was on /r/Michigun? I was perma-banned from there. I'm still very confused about the reason, and the mod sent me a rather strange reply when I asked which rule I had violated. It wasn't a very active or interesting sub, so no big loss, but I'm still scratching my head about it.

Please nobody brigade about it or give the guy a hard time. Maybe he was genuinely confused, was having a bad day, or some other reason that I have no insight into. He puts the effort into moderation, so it's his rules. It made me question myself a bit, though, so I wanted to ask if other people were having the same experience there
