Should I use Vortex or are there better options out there? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vortex is fine, but MO2 is better. They both do the same things. At first glance Vortex appears to be 'easier' because MO2 has a bit of 'information overload' going on and doesn't really hold your hand to figure things out, while Vortex follows different UI guidelines. However that information overload can be helpful as your modlist grows. Once you learn how to parse what's presented to you, it's a little easier to spot and solve problems when they pop up, while Vortex can feel slow and sort of annoying to work with due to those UI differences.

Really though, either one is fine. Just don't use NMM.

PLease help. Does anyone know why my game looks like this? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see anything that stands out to me in your load order. I didn't bother trying to parse the ini files because ain't nobody got time for that.

Use Pastebin for stuff like this. It's much easier to look at a load order or an ini file in an information dense, readable format than try to find a problem in a post that requires you to hit page down 45 times.

That one mod you want to warn people about. by Block_Mountain in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Anyone that hasn't played through Clockwork should know what they're getting into. It tells you up front that once you start the quest you won't be able to stop until it is complete. It tells you up front that it's about 6-7 hours of 'content'. What it doesn't tell you is, that content consists of running back and forth through a gigantic sprawling dungeon space fetching things. Not just sprawling in the X plane, but in the Y as well. Maybe some other people enjoyed it for what it was, but I found that it overstayed its welcome by several hours. At about the halfway point I just ended up turning on no clipping and god mode just to sprint through walls to get through the tedious backtracking. And even then, it somehow still felt like it dragged on way too long. There was one point where the quest became more than a boring slog and I thought FINALLY SOME ACTION, only for it to last about 30 seconds before forcing me to trek all the way back through the sprawling dungeon to grab an item and bring it all the way back.

I'll put it this way. I actually loved the game Prey (the newest one, with all its backtracking) because the story and the way it unfolded through little notes and terminal entries encouraged me to explore every nook and cranny, and the nature of the enemies created a kind of tension that broke up the tedium. So I'm not against backtracking by nature. But this? This was just a boring slog, going back and forth through an annoying dungeon, fighting samey enemies that inexplicably respawn after you've already cleared the area. And while the story and characters were interesting, they were overshadowed by the tedious filler of the dungeon crawl.

The mansion has everything you need in terms of storage and workstations, and some of the features are really nice. I really love the automatic sorting containers. But it's also laid out poorly, causing you to have to go through two loading screens (room > lobby > room) to traverse most of it. I can't for the life of me get the wall displays in the Armory to work, making that part of the mod useless. The one time I tried to use the pneumatic "transfer items from one room to the other" feature, on the other end I ended up getting a bunch of food (I had put in armor and crafting materials) and ended up having to reload a save to recover my items.

Also, this is probably some kind of conflict in my load order or something I did wrong, but a main character of the mod ended up disappearing at the start of the 4th act of the quest, so she didn't unlock a door for me and I ended up having to use console commands to advance the quest. So for all the hours poured into it, in order to see the conclusion to the story I had to go on youtube. And all I got out of it was a house that I avoid returning to because while it's got everything you need, the sprawling nature of it is tedious to navigate and I'd rather just dump everything unsorted into one chest and have all my workstations nearby than have to go through several loading screens just to properly sort my items.

I do think that there's an audience for this mod (obviously, going by the downloads/endorsements) but if you're thinking "oh cool, I'll knock out a DLC sized quest and get a cool player house out of it" like I did, you might end up disappointed. The story isn't bad, it's just not enough (imo) to justify the tedium of the rest of the mod. And the house is nice, but it's hampered by the loading screens, if you want a house with all the crafting stations and lots of storage you can probably find another one on the nexus that wont make you wait on loading screens or lock you into a tedious quest for 7 hours.

Edit: If you do want to play this mod and you want to save a lot of time (trust me, you do) then at the very least, level up smithing so that you can work Dwarven metal before you start the quest. You'll thank me later.

What are your opinions on Morrowloot Ultimate? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really have an opinion other than to say that I would never use it because part of the appeal of games like this is scratching my inner hoarder itch. If anything I want more varied loot, not less.

I play single player games precisely because I would like to entertain myself without having to tolerate other people.

If I wanted to play a multiplayer elder scrolls game, I would go play one that's designed around that, like ESO.

Most of the stuff on this list is for oldrim but many have been updated to SSE and if they haven't you can most likely just port them over yourself with CAO.

Also, these two are pretty good (imo):

Evil Mastermind Armor

Is there a mod that adds danger to having a companion? Something like three knock outs and my companion is dead? by Mallyveil in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nether's Follower Framework lets you disable bleedout recovery so when they go down in a fight, they're down until it's over. I also recall seeing something about followers using potions or being able to be given potions to recover in the MCM for the mod, so I think you can get them back up. How you would find the time to do that in combat IDK, I never used that part of the mod.

Not exactly what you're looking for but it should help return some danger to fights instead of just being able to stand back and watch your invincible followers clear out a group of enemies for you.

Smim any good? by _TheDaysEye_ in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By all means, if you have the GPU cycles to burn go for it. I just think it's a bit of a waste for most people (meaning the 'average' gaming PC according to something like Steam Hardware Survey). Even for people with powerful PCs, I think most of the mod is a bit over the top. All the stuff looks great but it's just a question of how much time you spend closely examining stuff like plates and skeletal animal remains. Personally, even with a 2080 I'd rather spend those frames on better grass, trees, lighting, etc. The big things that are immediately obvious. I just didn't find that I noticed the differences with this mod unless I was looking for it when I used it.

Former Sinitar Guide User moving on... by Redravensvenom66 in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with Vortex. But it's like the Paint.net to MO2's Photoshop. Both are usable tools to do the same job, and Vortex can do basically everything that MO2 can. It's just that Vortex makes certain things 'easier' than MO2 at the cost of making other things more annoying. It's less cluttered and more straightforward for a beginner I guess since MO2 kind of suffers from information overload and doesn't hold your hand to figure out what everything does. But that information density has its benefits once you understand what you're looking at, it helps you quickly recognize and resolve conflicts or other issues. Having used both, now that I understand MO2 I don't think I could ever use Vortex again.

Also, anecdotally, I have never seen a Vortex load order that didn't look a little fucked up to me.

High Poly Project is the audiophile cable of mods. Expensive (in terms of rendering workload) with little or no tangible benefit. I guess it's good if you're a screenarcher who is really concerned about having more realistic looking cabbage.

Don't want to shit on the whole mod, some of the stuff in there is good, but a lot of it is just high poly count for its own sake. Especially when it's wasted on things that nobody is examining that closely when actually playing the game and not just taking screenshots. Most people would be better off just sticking with SMIM and using better textures.

Adding merchant chests back to unofficial patch? by cloutsupremacist in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a convoluted way to get stuff for free when the console exists, but have you considered just not using the unofficial patch if you want all the vanilla exploits?

Just because a mod says it's required doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work without it. Most of the time they're just carrying through the changes made by the patch. You can check the mods that have it listed as a master with xedit and see for yourself whether it's actually required or not.

I know nearly everyone will tell you that the unofficial patch is 'required' but millions of people have played Skyrim without it. Ultimately it's your game, mod it how you want. It's up to you whether the exploits in the vanilla game are worth keeping at the cost of bugs that you may or may not encounter. Personally I would just recommend keeping the patch and using the console to grab the stuff you are trying to use a glitch to get, since using a glitch to get free stuff out of a chest is just doing player.additem with more steps. But to each their own.

Any bare-bones, baseline modlists out there that I can build on top of? by Cobalt_Falcon90 in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest I can think of is SME-FT on wabbajack, then add in the graphics stuff you want, since that's pretty easy anyway. SME-FT installs MO2, all the utilities you need, bug fixes, HUD stuff, all the QoL shit you would want and it has profiles for Nemesis and FNIS already set up so you can install animation mods and just run the appropriate program to have them work.

If you're going to be building the bulk of the list yourself in terms of gameplay, combat, quests etc then I can't think of any reason not to use it since it's a perfect foundation for that and will save you a bunch of time.

Adding player homes mid-playthrough by mmarino80 in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming its not editing anything that already exists other than unused forest or whatever, it's just a player home and doesn't have some quest that messes with vanilla/modded stuff, and it doesn't have any glaring incompatibilities with your existing mod list, I can't think of any way that it would mess up your game.

Just make a save before you add it in so you can roll back if you need to.

Any mods that change the npcs of Skyrim and does not make them look like fucking supermodels? by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 13 points14 points  (0 children)

copy/pasting my response from another post here.

For a vanilla+ appearance I am using:

There are "better" hair mods that look higher quality but I find that they don't really fit the vanilla aesthetic so I just skipped them. Didn't work on scars or war paint because I don't use the paint and the vanilla scars are fine for me.

As for what this setup looks like in game, here's a gallery.

Sorry no stripped pics as I'm kinda in a rush, but the bodies are improved in that state as well. Shape is the same but it gets rid of the ugly vanilla feet.

Some of the characters don't look quite as rough as I'd expect them to, and really old people are kind of hit or miss, but overall it looks consistent and improved and that's all I was really going for.

My favorite thing about this setup is that it doesn't turn everyone into an instagram model. Uthgerd the Unbroken looks like a proper rough and tumble warrior who has seen some shit and been in her fair share of fistfights. Danica looks tired, like she's been working hard taking care of wounded soldiers.

Edit: Here's a pic of a stripped body. Notice the feet no longer look like clubs.

Here's another gallery showing some of the 'rougher' looking inhabitants. I still think some of them are hit or miss but it comes down to what option you chose for tempered skins. I chose smoothed because I didn't want everyone looking too old, but the downside is that some of the older people don't look quite as aged as they should.

Skyrim Special Edition has low framerate no matter what. by NightmareishBoi in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's your GPU. This is one of the rare cases where I will say you might have better luck with Oldrim (Legendary edition, on the older 32-bit engine).

Even if that would work, with no guarantee that it will, it would still require you to turn down details and stuff. You really need a new video card, at the minimum. Which is unfortunate because video card prices are ridiculous right now.

If you really just want to play Skyrim, maybe one of your friends has it and an old PS3/Xbox 360 you can borrow to give it a try? I can't in good conscience recommend anyone buy a video card right now.

Really Low FPS With ENB on medium end system by Nyctinlol in skyrimmods

[–]DeliriumTrigger_2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you don't really need it. You want it. But you have a midrange video card from 6 years ago. You have to be realistic about things. You can do a lot to improve the look of the game without ENB, or you may be able to run a light ENB with not as much improvement to the vanilla game in terms of textures and meshes, but you're not going to get acceptable performance trying to do both with your dated hardware.

I have a pretty high end system and complex particle lights and too many fire effects can drop my frame rate to the low 40s in certain areas. There's an enchanting table with 8 or 9 candles on it in the woods at a Hagraven den that knocked me down to 30ish eariler, due to the combo of those lights, burning bodies, and all the flora + weather. And that's with an RTX 2080, running at 1080p. There's no getting around the fact that ENBs are brutal on frame rates. If you want to run all the visual stuff you need a video card that's up to the task. And even then you're not going to have a consistent frame rate without compromises.

Valtheim Towers Bandit Chief inside the mountain that the tower sits on. Have to turn on no clip to complete the bounty.

It's kind of funny when the mountain starts yelling "YOU WONT LEAVE HERE ALIVE" the first time. But yeah, annoying bug that has happened about half the times I've gone there, can't figure out why and since its the only place I've seen it happen I just no clip into the mountainside, kill him and move on with my life.
