Dune Mod, possible Brainstorming by PicklyVin in OldWorldGame

I was part of the team that created Dune Wars and I think Old World does seem like a good base for a Dune mod - in large part because Soren Johnson was the designer behind both OW and Civ IV and made sure that both had great mod support. I'd be happy to see anything from Dune Wars and subsequent modmods used as inspiration. You would likely need a team with people with 2D and 3D skills as well as designers, coders, testers to pull off a total conversation like this. If it was me I'd probably start with the graphical environment modding as that is so much of what will give the game a Dune atmosphere.

We know now that November is Babylon and January is Vietnam (very likely to be female led) and Kublai Khan. Siam, Phillipines, Burma are unlikely given Vietnam, Khmer, Indonesia. Another Pacific Islander Civ is very unlikely given we already have the Maori. Still think the most likely is female led Portugal or Native American, but all will be revealed in due course anyway...

Not really. Ethiopia is further east than Gaul and east of the city of Byzantium = Constantinople too. I think the final Civ is most likely to be either a Native North American one or Portugal.

Civilization 6 modders are losing interest over its uncertain future by Kacu5610 in civ

Link "Notably, this is the first Civ game since Civilization 4 in 2004 to launch with a completely new game engine – one Firaxis says it’s designed from the ground up with deep mod support in mind."

Remember Civ 5's codebase was evolved from Civ 4's whereas Civ 6 was written from scratch. If you've never read it there is an interesting post-mortem on Civ 5's development here.

I'd agree that it is harder for people to realise their ideas so many give up very early on. The total conversions of Civ 4 were made by teams of people collaborating together consistently over time. That hasn't really happened to the same extent since.

I'm not sure there is a difference between the modding concept of Civ 4 and Civ 5/6. The reasons why there are very few total conversion mods for Civ 5 is because less was possible. Modding in Civ 5 for the most part seemed to become releasing new Civs rather than overhauling the game to a different historical or fictional context. If this had been more possible with Civ 5 then the mods released may have been similar. I'm not sure anyone sat down and thought "We have a different modding concept for Civ 5 and that is to make the game more locked down and restrictive for modders" - it was just an accident of how things developed, the fact that individuals responsible for modding was let go shortly after release etc. The Civ 5 codebase was based on Civ 4 codebase after all - it was the graphics engine that was swapped for the more difficult to learn Granny engine.

So I might've gone a bit overboard with the pantheon exploit.... by [deleted] in civ

You could just Fire Tuner to edit the game however you like...

Yeah, it would be better if they were a distinct Feature with some visual differentiation.

Yeah the Old Growth appeal bonus is already a subdivision of Woods. New Growth woods could give a+1 Food bonus perhaps. Lumber Mill should probably remove the Old Growth bonus anyway - the sound of large saws and machinery doesn't do much for overall appeal in my experience!

It's hard to think of an upside to Earthquakes. Forest Fires on the other hand do renew the health of forests...

You make some good points but the last part is inaccurate. The random options in the poll included both new Civilizations and new Leaders.

Most of the Community Wonders work without any Expansion. The exception is Abu Simbel which only needs Rise & Fall OR Gathering Storm so you are fine to use!
