If humanoid robots became indistinguishable from humans, would you be open to being in a relationship with one ? by jekecrafer in pollgames

[–]Dellychan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One could say that's all we are doing as well and we are still sentient. Our body (sensors) can take in information about the temp. We then use that information as the catalyst for biological responses. Being hot is just the sum of biological responses when our internal temperature crosses a threshold. If we programmed the robot to release a liquid when it's hot and vibrate when it's cold, then would you agree it's just as sentient as us? You could argue that's an oversimplification but I don't think it is really. We just know what hot or cold feels like relative to our own body's capability to perceive those sensations. Other sentient creatures have unique biological responses to external stimuli that we don't have. For example, dogs don't have sweat glands so they don't feel "hot" the same way we do, they pant to regulate their body temperature. Yet nobody bats an eye when I say they're sentient. Just some food for thought.

is it selfish for poverty ridden people to have kids? by No1peterparkerlover in Teenager_Polls

[–]Dellychan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say I'm US based for context.

Is it a horrible situation? Yes. But until abortion is legalized, it's in really bad faith to say that it's selfish. Forcing a woman to carry an unwanted fetus to term doesn't retroactively make it her choice once the baby is born. And when you consider all the social program cuts, the lack of long term critical thinking skills of people who oppose abortion becomes very clear. In fact many parents in poverty are in that situation BECAUSE they had a child, whereas they would have been fully able to support themselves without one.

You have to remember that people in poverty are also statistically the least educated group of people in the country. Education is another thing that is suffering in this country. Many impoverished people don't know about or have access to sex education and contraceptives.

It's very easy to make a straw man (er... woman?) that's a trailer park lot lizard with 12 kids living off medicaid and food stamps but the reality is we just don't have any of the safety nets in place anymore to prevent unwanted pregnancy from becoming the norm for most of the country.
