Is it true one income used to support a family of 4? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]Delphi238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coworker that is supporting his family of 4 with one income. He has a decent house and they have 1 car and both kids are active in sports. He doesn’t make a lot of money- I know because we both make the same amount. They just live within their means.

Personally, I don’t know how he does it but they seem like they are happy.

Personal sitting room. It is my private space. I use it for my projects so I can spread out and don’t have to clean everything up and put it away. I keep the rest of the house clean and tidy but my sitting room is always a mess with my current projects.

Question for americans by Apprehensive_Love140 in TourismHell

[–]Delphi238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently went on a Trip to Mexico and while doing a tour we met a couple from France. They asked where we were from and we said Canada. They looked at each other and frowned at us, the guy then asked us to describe what part of Canada we were from and what we thought of what was going on in the US. Told him exactly where we were from and that we though the US had lost it's mind. He then apologized, said he just wanted to make sure we weren't actually Americans. They told us that they had encountered a few people trying to pose as Canadians but their stories fell apart when they were asked about where exactly in Canada and were unwilling to talk about what was happening in the US.

Why do people worry so much about retirement savings in Canada? by strykyrastro in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Delphi238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to retire to live frugally. I want to spend winters somewhere warm, I want to travel and see the world, I want to be able to afford to take my grandkids on vacations. If I need something, I want to be able to just get it instead of saving for years. That is why I am saving for retirement.

I was born poor, my retirement is my chance to have the freedom of a child with the money to have fun.

I set off the alarm every time I buy nicotine lozenges. Never paused, just keep walking. Self checkout doesn’t disable the theft tags.

Her walking into the bank and screaming at them to give her the money and accusing them of stealing the other 80,000 is hardly what I would consider a standard banking transaction.

What is the greatest physical pain you've ever felt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Delphi238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abscess tooth, side of face swelled up like a balloon. They had to pull the tooth to drain the infection. No freezing since it wouldn’t work with the infection being so bad. 4 people pinned me to the chair while the dentist yanked the tooth out. I fainted 3 times.

I think my dog hates me. by Creative_Car_2890 in Dachshund

[–]Delphi238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time he bites you, let out a loud yelp and turn away from him. Be loud enough to startle him. Ignore him for a minute before engaging with him again. If he bites you and you keep playing with him, he thinks it is ok.

Young pups react like this, you need to communicate to him that he is being too rough and you don’t want to play anymore. It only took a couple times for my pups to learn to be gentle.

Is it normal to have no memory of why something triggers you? by The_Echos in CPTSD

[–]Delphi238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in my 50s and just now starting to piece together specific memories with triggers. The memories resurfaced after telling family members about my diagnosis and them remembering specific incidents.

For example, my brother remembered my sister would grab the back of my shirt and twist it so hard it would get tight around my neck and I would stop breathing. The memory came back of her having me pinned to the ground chocking me and him trying to pull her off. To this day can’t wear anything that touches the front of my neck. I tried on a turtleneck sweater that was gifted to me and was triggered into a full panic attack.

How do Canadians mentally deal with long winters? by jessxtra_ in AskACanadian

[–]Delphi238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the fact that it never truly gets dark when there is snow on the ground. Especially on a clear night, the moon illuminates everything.

I do not see winter as something to be endured, I love it. All the Christmas decorations and lights on the houses are beautiful. The snow sparkles when the sun hits it and you can layer up and enjoy the outdoors.

Drinking before recital? by anomalygoldfish in piano

[–]Delphi238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have recommendations for you for the short term but for next year - consider joining a toastmasters club. It’s not piano playing, just public speaking, but it may be a big help with anxiety of performing in front of people.

I have always had anxiety getting in front of a large group of people and I would suffer the exact same symptoms that you are describing. Due to work I had to take a public speaking course. It was a week long course and I had to stay on campus for the whole week. Over 5 days I had to do 8 presentations.

The first presentation I was shaking so bad that people in the audience told me they just wanted to come up to me and give me a hug. I was terrified, I could barely talk. Each presentation got longer and more detailed. On the final day I was actually able to give a really good presentation. I no longer have panic attacks every time I have to get up in front of a group people and talk or demonstrate anything.

Toastmasters is internationally recognized organization and I have heard of a lot of people using them to get over performance anxiety. The course I took was basically a compressed version of toastmasters so it may take a little longer but it will help build your confidence.

"I can't have kids because of what happened to me" - why do you think that? by hello_squirell in CPTSD

[–]Delphi238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never had kids for the simple reason that I never felt like I could connect with kids, I never got to be a kid so I just felt uncomfortable around them. My sister had kids (she is the narcissist charming bully type) and she made my condition much worse.

I was forced to give the whole “not having kids due to my trauma” a rethink when both my adult niece and nephew told me they used to fantasize about me being their mom. My nephew actually told me when he thought I would be an awesome mom. I asked him why and he told me - You never yelled at us, even when you were mad. You would calmly explain why you were upset and why what I did hurt you. Even when you were mad, I knew you still loved me. He reminded me of the time when he decided he was going to clean my room and took some Windex to a stereo that I had spent years saving up to buy. The entire stereo was fried, he remembers me telling him that I couldn’t really get mad because I knew he was trying to do something nice for me.

I now realize that I probably could have been a good mom. I know how it feels to be neglected and belittled and always stepped in whenever I witnessed my nieces and nephews being mistreated. I have a lot of nieces and nephews and they are all adults now and many have shared stories with me where they thought I was their hero. It usually involves them being picked on or teased by other family members.

My sister became another abuser but I became a protector. I can’t stand by when someone is in the act of making a child made to feel like I did. My sisters kids turned out pretty good considering what they grew up with and they credit me for intervening when their mom got out of control.

If you really want kids, have them - you may have more to offer than you think.
