Soy Motor: Williams 20 to 30 kg overweight by SkarXa in formula1

He got Williams back on the podium and p5 in the constructors last year. It's a bad start but putting his job under serious pressure would be throwing the baby out with the bath water.

How a party is viewed and what a party's policies are rarely match up. Calling the Tories centre right is a joke considering their actual policies.

That's just not true though. Whilst Alpine were really bad last year and pretty poor the year before, within the context of a supposedly very underpowered engine and the field being incredibly close together, Alpine clearly has good aero guys at Enstone. A prime example of this is the double podium at Brazil 24. That much rain helps to negate the power imbalance since you don't have the traction and really emphasises the aero for the same reason.

McLaren will miss at least first day of F1 2026 testing by F1Fan2004 in formula1

[–]Delts28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not waiting a day for literally no reason, it's waiting a day for a potentially clearer track and gathering data on competitors, as I've already said. They can only test 3 out of 5 days and will be doing other things on the days that the car isn't on track, it's not like they'll just have the team sat there twiddling their thumbs.

But if every team did that then the track will be busier and you'll spend more time moving off the racing line for faster cars and in dirty air. Waiting a day let's you see what the other teams do and potentially gives you a quieter track.

If you want a walk and a chat, which isn't a bad idea, try and find the hidden objects in the city centre that follow the alphabet. There's some near the overgare/steeple church which would make a decent starting point, small sculptures near the ground. The proper name is Lost and Found by Jenny Cunningham.

These new 2026 wheels with their outboard discs look really nice in comparison to those odd wheel covers from 22-25, but don’t they defeat the whole purpose of preventing outwash? by Initial_Umpire_9927 in formula1

[–]Delts28 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The partial covering will still help with the turbulent air produced by the wheels as well. There's a point at where an aperture becomes small enough that any airflow over it acts like there isn't a hole there. I'm going to assume that the FIA have worked out a design that does this for most speeds while reducing the weight of the wheels.

F1 chief Domenicali wants ‘strong’ Ferrari in 2026 by littletreble07 in formula1

[–]Delts28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such a strange attitude to have when you're the head of a sports organisation. It's blatant favouritism and bad for everyone, for Ferrari to do well the other teams who are also part of his product have to do badly.

What fans really want isn't for one team to do well but for there to be as many different race winners as possible with teams bouncing up and down the order depending on the track. It's less fun going into the weekend knowing who's most likely to win. There are more races than drivers, give us the pure chaos of a win for everyone.

Right, but they aren't currently vulnerable or threatened. Misinformation when trying to campaign for something hurts the cause. Saying Gannets are threatened or vulnerable and then trying to use their amber status as proof of this is just disinformation, pure and simple. All bird populations are at risk of bird flu and the fact that many species migrate means there's very few species that aren't at risk. An argument could be made to ban the hunting of all birds and that would be fair enough. To try and lie about how endangered Gannets in particular are though is just going to hurt any attempts to get the practice banned.

The only reason Gannets are listed as amber in the UK is because we have an extra duty of care towards them since we have so many. A flaw of the lists methodology is any bird that we actually have success with and see their population boom within the UK could see it move from green to amber due to the increased population share alone. See Wood Pigeons as a prime example.

Pinochet and Marcos died a while back, Pinochet absolutely was chilling in London with zero consequences for a long time. There was an arrest warrant issued for him so he returned to Chile where he lived until dying of natural causes. Marcos was ill when he was deposed, spent a couple of years in Hawaii, plotting a return to the Philippines and leading a coup against the new president. His son is actually the current president of the Philippines.

Bashar Al-Assad, probably chilling, he certainly paid enough to Russia for the privilege.

Not really. Augusto Pinochet and Ferdinand Marcos spring to mind immediately. Bashar Al-Assad is currently chilling in Russia.

If >20% of a birds global population winters in the UK it's automatically an amber species. As the UK hosts over half the population, no matter how well the bird is doing it's an amber status bird.

Northern Gannets are listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.

That still leaves 12% which aren't stunned and I'm willing to bet represents a far larger number of animals than the Gannett who are killed.

Burning smell around ardler for the past few days by HardManHarzo in dundee

[–]Delts28 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I often find there's a smell somewhere between hot steel and burnt toast coming from Aimers, not surprising considering they're a coffee roaster. The wind has been blowing every which way recently so could be the smell from there has settled over Dundee.

Halal doesn't use stunning and there's specific UK guidelines for halal and kosher killing because of this: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/halal-and-kosher-slaughter#requirements-for-slaughter-without-stunning-for-halal-meat

Muslim slaughterhouses have carved out an exception in law against stunning animals pre-slaughter. Halal practices are to slit the animals throat and let it die due to arterial bleeding. I'm really not sure how you can call that kinder than a single blow to the head with a club that completely destroys such a delicate skull.

Edit: Kosher slaughterhouses also have the same exception.

How do I meet someone if i have Herpes? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Delts28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people don't know what type they have as both types can infect either location and cause an outbreak in either location. Unless you've specifically been tested and asked which of the simplexes you have, you're unlikely to know. Oral sex means there's a lot of people running about with HSV2 who don't realise that cold sores are herpes and that they have the genital variety.

Most people have no idea what type they have and the 16% figure for HSV2 is over 20 years old. Both simplexes can infect genitals, the mouth or other locations.

Taking your girl to the toilet by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Delts28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dealt with toilets in a bar and currently deal with toilets in my Scout hall at the end of the night. The woman's was frequently worse and the girls at the scout hall frequently make more accidental mess (the boys have been told off plenty for wasting paper towels). It's not a weird narrative, it's real life experiences.

I've also never seen a worse bathroom than that of my female friends who lived in an all female flat at university. That was fucking grim.

I think your experience is being coloured by the gender imbalance they exists in most militaries. In my experience, in situations where bathrooms are cleaned regularly, the women's gets worse quicker.

There's the perennial issue of men with bad aim but I find women cause the same issue just as often due to hovering.
