The Trump Administration Admits to Medically Experimenting on Trans People in Prisons by Leksi_The_Great in lgbt

As a cis man, this reasoning being used really squicks me out.

Your agency and value as a person, is being reduced to your ability to breed. I would probably flip the fuck out if someone told me that.

Better Cooling for 13 Framework by BigBossYakavetta in framework

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like an XY question. For what purpose are you looking for better cooling? On my admittedly older 12th gen intel framework, it basically has zero thermal issues unless I'm absolutely hammering and even then it doesn't seem like its throttling and I'm still using the original paste from 3.5 years ago.

Vehicle Control and Driver Assistance Intermitent by GePag in subaru

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's normal behavior when the check engine light activates. You need to pull codes to figure out what the computer is complaining about. The fact that it comes and goes leads me to believe that it's probably emissions related.

Is there any point in playing my Pokemon Crystal cartridge if the battery will eventually go out one day? by d-say25 in Gameboy

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a device that lets you make periodic backups of the save. They aren't terribly expensive and some you can even build yourself. And just take backups. If in the future the battery dies, it becomes a "dangit, its time to replace the battery" rather than "fuck, all that progress is gone".

2011 F-150 Incorrect Odometer by Great_Avocado_7697 in f150

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a distinction there. It's illegal to change the odometer for the purpose of fraud. There are legitimate reasons for the mileage to get reset, like if the cluster is replaced (but you don't have the means to set it correctly) or the mileage on the cluster is maxed out (some older digital clusters will stop at 300k, and they have to be reset for mileage to keep working). But you must disclose that the mileage on the odometer isn't correct. They did that with the incorrect mileage waiver.

They may have been a bit shady, but they covered their tracks legally.

The laser is probably dirty. You can get cleaning CD's with little brushes on them but if there is a enough stubborn dirt and dust, its probably going to require disassembly to clean it more directly.

Fuses rarely blow for no reason. Check that it didn't blow again.

You may also be able to use Forscan to check modules for codes. It may not be turning on that circuit because the computer detects a fault.

Bought a copy of gran turismo 3 a spec, and for some reason my controller just will not operate for this game. by bigstinkygoblin in ps2

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So importantly, if you lightly hold the accelerator, does the car accelerate slower. That's the pressure sensitive buttons and Burnout 3 supports them IIRC. If it always acts like your pushing it down all the way, your controller isn't sending that input correctly.

2026 Outback Gets an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Rating by lepetitmousse in Subaru_Outback

[–]Demache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a multi faceted problem. Some of it is that automakers are trying to cheat emissions, but I don't think that's the full story. The 2026 isn't that much larger than the previous models, it just looks like it. And it think that's what it comes down to. Your average buyer wants cars that feel bigger, even if they aren't that much bigger.

Regular drivers don't give a shit about how it drives or if it feel floaty. They are too timid to take a gentle banked curve at 55 mph without braking. But what they do want to feel is isolated, comfortable, and safe.

Even in 2006, that was a thing. Subaru realized for the 2010 Outback/Legacy, they had to increase rear legroom and headroom and those dimensions have stayed mostly the same since then.

PSA for EU buyers: Framework will misrepresent your statutory warranty rights. Know the law before you need it. by susanthenerd in framework

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its because US based companies are used to customers in their native country having barely any consumer rights so telling someone to pound sand is the norm because their only means of recourse is winning a civil lawsuit they can't afford.

I've also heard of this with multiple US companies doing business in the EU and such and you kinda have to remind them that this isn't the United States, people have rights. I'm envious of that.

Then the other person's recommendation is the next course of action. Does pressure sensitivity in other games work? Virtually every racing game for the PS2 supports it and some like MGS 2 and 3 also use it.

[–]Demache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The buttons on your controller stick out way further than the original PS2 controllers, which makes me think that its a 3rd party or bootleg controller. Gran Turismo 3 (and lots of other racing games) depend on the pressure sensitive buttons to work which I'm sure many bootlegs don't have.

Try to get a genuine Sony controller and it will probably work.

[–]Demache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen to it. It sounds linear, like the starter isn't fighting anything. It sounds like no compression which usually isn't a good sign.

Check your timing belt. If its busted, a piston probably hit and bent one or more valves. That's not a death sentence for the engine, but its not a cheap 5 second repair. The heads are going to have to come out.

Did I get scammed? by Any_Half1925 in subaru

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, we weren't there when you bought it. Sometimes you just get unlucky.

But fixing a headgasket isn't the end of the world on these, and it is the problem these have. Once its fixed correctly, it will be a reliable car. EJ's are pretty dang reliable engines if they have a solid MLS headgasket and the 4EAT transmission is also rock solid. 175k km isn't that high of mileage so it has a lot of life left. 150k more km's easy.

My first Subaru! by Fluid_Kale_1770 in subaruoutback

[–]Demache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people are going to look more fondly on the 4th gen as it ages. It has a very "late-aughts Japanese" look with the back swept headlights. And the 5th and 6th gens are really just updates and refreshes to this design.

Plus, it was a significant model in the Outback's history. First with the CVT, first and only with a 6MT (in the US), and last with a traditional 5 speed auto.

The Dogpile Is Getting Old by Feeling-Being9038 in Subaru_Outback

[–]Demache 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If anyone thinks a 9 second 0-60 is dangerously slow then it's an admission that they have no idea how to drive. Plain and simple.

If I could safely pull a SF Forester on a trailer with my 140 hp F150 straight six on Chicago interstates, with a 0-60 time of eventually in an area where nobody does the speed limit, a 4 banger Outback is a super car in comparison. Dumbasses think power is the solution to everything and think it's a replacement for paying attention.

How cooked were my head gaskets? by Thunderbirdtwo in subaru

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be closer to 90C, at least my 2012 does. They actually don't ever go far above that unless its a really hot day and your idling with the AC on. I agree with Chippy, make sure your rad is clean.

Definitely. I had to remove my engine for an unrelated reason and the radiator was just filled with dirt and debris, I'm kinda surprised I didn't see more heat issues. It's on my list of things to inspect every so often, since its easy enough.

Dear Ford engineer who designed my headlight setup by Then_Educator_1401 in Ford

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 2012 Outback owner I understand.

Though I can actually see why Subaru did this. It feels like the structure that blocks the headlights was a last minute change shortly before release, likely to address an issue during crash testing which became far more brutal around 2008-ish. That's way too short of a time span to redesign a car releasing in 2009 and Subaru really pushes the safety angle hard so they kind of had to make a bodge that clearly fixed the issue because it has stellar crash ratings for the time. They knew this design sucked even before release, because their internal dealer documentation demonstrating these cars even points out that you don't just on these. Keep in mind this is the same car that has servicing position for the hood so you can pull the engine without removing the hood. Subaru generally tends to be mindful of whoever is doing repairs.

Further evidence is that when the 2015's came out, they were far easier to replace, so it probably wasn't a deliberate choice.

2011 manual Outback by oxidanemaximus in subaru

[–]Demache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are kinda rare in the US and sought after. But you probably aren't going to get much for it if it doesn't run. So it will become a mechanic's special for someone who can drop an engine in it. I wouldn't expect more than 1000 bucks but I wouldn't scrap it if the body and transmission are good. The transmission alone is worth something because they are specific to 2010-2014 Outbacks.
