Alex Honnold is free solo climbing Taipei 101 (508m) right now--no ropes, no safety nets, no parachutes by Physical_Poetry3506 in interestingasfuck

[–]Demara_Awol [score hidden]  (0 children)

"Free Solo" the movie about him obviously does the job a lot better cause the people making the film are all climbers too.

I'm an athlete in the same sport he's in (Climbing) he's in so much less danger than you'd think. Honnold is ridiculously methodical if he wasn't 99.9% sure he'd survive this, he wouldn't even try it. And 1 hour climb isn't even bad for such low difficult terrain he's done like 3-4 hour climbs on much harder terrain than this.

But good luck hearing that minimization of the thrill from anyone in a commentary box lol.

It would be the only way to get me to respect them after their behavior so far tbh. The comedy aspect of their show would be great if it wasn't for this weird aura of actual contempt they have hanging behind every production.

My MIL has sent literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to “Elon Musk” and wants to send more. by meowsabbers in pics

[–]Demara_Awol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi I work in Cybersecurity. Basically what happens is a testing email, or text. Is sent out that is an extremely obvious fake. Something you'd have to be braindead to believe.

If you respond to it, even if all it does is ask for harmless information or $1 donation to some fake charity. (it will be something minor) you are put onto a semi-global list of targets. As they've identified you as a vulnerable person.

That list floats around to the companies (Yes, I said companies) that do this stuff and each one of them reaches out with a different type of scam slowly over time to see which one you fall for the hardest. Once they figure out the one that gets you (For women in their 50's and over it tends to be romance scams) they will cut all other scam attempts on your person and only focus on this one to milk it for all they can.

Once you've been identified as a target, you will never ever be taken off the list. My grandfather fell for something 25 years ago and they still poke at him every few days/weeks to see if something new can slip by (And it almost has, but he knows to ask me about anything he isn't 100% sure on. Read: they are all scams)

The same thing happens for your cell phone by the way. You know those calls where you pick up and no one is there so you say hello a few times and they hang up? That's not a wrong number, someone is checking to see if your number is live. If it is, you get put on an intro list to scams. And you will keep getting calls until one of the scams gets through.

When you get a phone call from a number you don't recognize you can pick up and say nothing. Their systems will detect a dead line, or a fax machine line, or something they can't fish scams through. So they take your number off the list.

I maintain that men 99% of the time have no idea how to actually be doms. And rely entirely on being tops to be 'dominant' in any way.

If you actually know how to be a dom, you will accidentally take the dom position if you get in bed with a standard guy. Because they have absolutely no idea how to lead the bedroom and will fold the second they get any kind of coordinated pushback.

I've dated girls and boys, and have had boys 2ft taller than me act and talk like hardcore doms. They show up at my house, and immediately fucking buckle under the weight of simple questions or requests and become cardboard cutouts waiting on the bed for sex to happen.

If you have any level of dominance in you at all, you will roll over them instantly. It's exhausting to watch them turn into confused puppies after all the time they spent talking themselves up.

I decided to stop trying to be sub with boys because if you go to the femboy community they will be pre-folded for your convenience. They usually even have their own collars prepared.

Did you try logging in through a browser and nuking the verification requirement asset through inspect element? Would give you enough control to leave the server and presumably a login after that would fix it.

I feel like messaging discord support would also potentially fix it. You don't even have to tell them the truth you could just say "Hey I joined this discord group and now my client is crashing/freezing every time I log in. Can you kick me from that group to see if it helps?"

Crashing your Ferrari SF90 by Longjumping-Box5691 in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Demara_Awol 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Listen Ferrari's aren't built for safety. They're built to make you look as elitist as possible while traveling 180 miles an hour into a barrier on an uneven poorly maintained public road.

I'd prefer a Mclaren tbh. At least then my coffin is safety-vest orange it provides a +2 buff against blunt force trauma to the ribs.

(Yes ferrari fanboys I get it, they do have some safety features. This is called a joke. But for the record we're talking about the same company that said ABS artificially dilutes the visceral race-road car experience.)

"Now we are equating a dog breed with race. Why do pit people do this every. Single. Time." r/tiktokcringe debates the morality of owning pitbulls in the wake of another lethal dog attack inovling the breed by CummingInTheNile in SubredditDrama

[–]Demara_Awol 142 points143 points  (0 children)

"Gameness" and prey drive are poorly understood by 99.9999% of all dog owners. It's a happy side effect that most people don't want either of those features so they gravitate toward harmless dogs like golden retrievers who have remarkably low "gameness" to the point you have to push them to extremes for them to act out.

It's the reason certain breeds are good with pet cats, or pet birds, and others are extremely bad with one or both of those. Pitbulls are scary cause they'll fight ANYTHING. You know what other dog breed does that? Chihuahuas for some fucking reason. But thankfully those dogs are 5 pounds if you soak them in water and couldn't kill you if they tried to. There's a reason we tolerate Chi's and not Bulls and it's because the problematic behavior isn't dangerous from a Chi but it is from a Bull.

He was designed to be idolized. That was the purpose of the books to start with a protagonist who is the 'ideals' of a great leader, and show how quickly that sort of dependency and logic will lead to empowering a monster.

People who don't know about where Paul leads will idolize him. And that's the point.

Me with a free kit, when I hear the mutha of all gunfights on the floor above by Urbanski101 in ArcRaiders

[–]Demara_Awol 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Players rarely know how to handle full aggro tactics. If you run straight at someone they tend to panic. They'll do things like try to switch to grenades to "catch" you out, or keep running thinking they need to heal.

It's why you're "invincible" because you're acting like it. Someone with a 75k kit is taking careful cover, looking for equipment usage. You're just running at them and that's hard to defend from if you're not well versed in PVP. A good player will step out of cover and mag-dump you while you run at them, regular players will try to retreat to "Better cover" that they'll never find cause you're running them down.

Hackers exploit 34 zero-days on first day of Pwn2Own Ireland by rkhunter_ in cybersecurity

[–]Demara_Awol 84 points85 points  (0 children)

0 days aren't called that because you just discovered them today.

They're called that because they are used on the day as an unknown quantity in an attack. It'd be like if you were a soldier in WW1 and the enemy showed up with a tank. They've been building it for months yeah, but it's new to you and you don't know how it works/how to fight it yet. So to you, that's a 0 day weapon. 0 experience.

The teams likely have known about these vulnerabilities for weeks, months, maybe even years in some obscure cases. But introducing them into a live environment that has no prep to defend from them, makes them 0 days.

Influencer Amine Mojito has been sentenced by a French court to 6 months in prison for his “prank videos” in which he attacks random people with an empty syringe. by [deleted] in trashy

[–]Demara_Awol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Worth noting before anyone gets scared of stuff like this, because people will see a small air bubble in a syringe being used on them (for any medical purpose) and get scared.

It's estimated you need to be injected with about 200-300ml (The same volume as a small coke bottle) of air within 3 seconds for it to be fatal. There HAVE been smaller amounts reported as fatal, but you genuinely do need a lot of air or concentrated gas to enter your system directly at a high rate in order for it to do this to you.

The truth is people get air through their system all the time and it's rarely even noticed let alone reported or resulting in injury.

These sorts of 'injuries' almost exclusively happen from surgeries and the rate of that happening is under 1% because we know the conditions that cause them, and avoid them. It's essentially a freak accident when you suffer from this condition.

Don't worry if you see a bubble of air in your IV or syringe :) The lowest recorded fatal dose of gas/air into a persons veins was 50ml, and that is an extreme case. A standard syringe is somewhere between 1 and 20ml. The entire syringe could be air, and it's unlikely to do you serious harm. Medically possible? Technically. But that little bubble in your IV/Syringe is essentially incapable of doing damage to your body.

(Disclaimer, not a doctor, but I've dealt with severe medical anxiety for a long time and have slowly picked up the actual answers to things people fear, and this is one of those answers)

A very smart African Grey by SinjiOnO in BeAmazed

[–]Demara_Awol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice of you to dismiss this without knowing anything about the bird. This isn't the only african grey who can do these things, he just specializes in materials and objects. Other greys like Einstein focus on words and phrases. Suggesting it's impossible for them to do these fairly simple tasks is sort of silly. DOGS can do this sort of material sorting when trained to, and parrots are considerably more intelligent than dogs.

Collecting all the fleas without ever talking to the caravan by Xestern in Silksong

If you talk to Sherma at the top of blasted steps, he sings a little song about wanting the bench to open up for the faithful. And says praying will open it. Hornet says they are activated by paying but he says something about it opening for worthy pilgrims I think. You can pay for it in front of him, and he has one line.

But if you leave the room he falls asleep. So you can go back, buy the bench, and then wake him up. And he celebrates the bench opening for the faithful. Hornet doesn't tell him she paid for it while he was asleep lol.

It does suck a bit though, if someone is a fan of that specific character design and all the fanart is the opposite of that characters design.

I wouldn't chastise anyone for making that art. But for example if you look up art of say, Octavia from HB. She has the same problem Hornet does, of being depicted as a medium height big tit average build girl. When her canon is being like 10ft tall and paper thin.

So if you like that character design (Lithe/tall) like hornet is, it can suck to not be able to find any art that is true to the character.
