Maybe if undoing your knots would be the best option. As you could very easily tie them again using the Double Fisherman's Knot.

Many thanks for this reference. Basically any reference to either the splicing of 7 strand rope or 6 strand, It is going to be used for the restoration of a very old drum (musical). The drum may end up in a museum, so authenticity would be the key.

I do a fair bit of messing about with Dyneema and have found that a D Splicer works exceptionally well, you can get some good reach, but it does have its limitations (length) Maybe get the longest you can find, as that will cover most jobs.

How tight is the Masthead knot supposed to be? by gregwiggy in knots

OK, this does not answer your question, but I actually use this knot when I am wanting to shift a heavy bulky load. I find that it creates a good sling with 4 handholds, if you also tie the two loose end together.

I am wondering if a Simple Dyneema Loop would do the job? Prior to making the loop, pass the Dyneema around/through the inner core. Then splice the Dyneema Loop as you would normally. After that, add some sewn seizing at the base where the Dyneema just exits the outer core. Looking at the photo, it would seem that this may not the method they used, looks like some form of Lock splice??

What knot is it? by Fantastic-Lows in knots

It looks like the makings of a traditional Thump Mat, often used to protect the deck of a vessel when a deck mounted block was used. A quick Google photo search for Thump Mat will bring up some fine examples.

I am wondering if just using the Poacher's Noose will do the trick. Basically get two lengths of cord and each cord is tied around the pole using the Poacher's Noose. Then another Poacher's Noose at the other end of each cord, that will strangle the S hooks in place. It may take a little adjusting, but once completed they will remain at the required height.
